Margo by late tko, style matchup is all wrong for Cotto. If Margo still has a decent chin he takes this.

If Margarito hadn't gotten the shit beaten out of him by Mosley and Pacquiao, I would agree. I believe those 2 beatdowns have softened Margo's punch resistence and Cotto stops him somewhere around the 8th round.
One thing is for sure, this fight will have little to do with the "sweet science", they're going to be looking to fuck each other up.

I'm betting this isn't the same Margarito that fought Cotto before Andre. This wouldn't be the first time i've been wrong, but I believe Antonio is damaged goods, that's not to say he isn't still dangerous.

Cotto's almost as damaged as Margarito IMO, and he had less stamina and a worse chin to begin with.
Margarito by TKO. Again.

I'm not so sure about that, Cotto has come back well from his losses, it remains to be seen if Tony can. I give Margarito a punchers chance, but little else.

I hope you're right.

Such a strong card, I am really excited for this. I really hope Cotto can win this but he's going to have to be very fit and disciplined. IMO he has shown in the first fight he is capable of winning however fighting the way he did for Cotto got 12 rounds might be an ask. I hope not though, because after the contraversie I believe Cotto should have that extra spark in him to get the win. We will see!

What concerns me is that Margarito may not even have a right eye after this fight.

Re: Cotto vs Margarito - the rematch - Saturday night chat/fight thread
Well..... it's the day of the fight, and after careful deliberation on my part, I just want to say a few, well-thought-out things, while trying to maintain all sense of decorum and calm.............
C'MON MIGUEL..... BUST UP THIS MUTHAF*KKERS INSIDES UP RIB-BY-RIB!!! BUST UP THE CHEATER'S EYE AND PUMMEL HIM UNTIL THERE'S NOTHING LEFT!!!!! BEAT THE JERK SENSELESS AND MAKE HIM CRAWL AROUND ON THE CANVAS LOOKING FOR HIS TEETH!!!!!!!!!!! YAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE FIGHT!!!!!!!
-
Been waiting for this fight for to long! Cotto wins 8th-10th round stoppage or KO. Then maybe drop to 147 and try getting a fight with the top 2 P4P fighters. I really hope for this to happen.

Re: Cotto vs Margarito - the rematch - Saturday night chat/fight thread
I don't remember so much anticipation (for me, personally anyway) for a fight since.... well, since Trinidad-Vargas. There's so many angles to this fight. There's the very real animosity between the fighters, something that can only add to fan interest and the fight atmosphere. There's the doubt cast over Margarito, and whether or not he had used the plaster before the Mosley fight, specifically against Cotto. There's the condition of Margarito's eye after his pounding at the hands of Pacquaio. There's the weight itself.... 154 instead of 147, where they fought the first time.
Also, this is the very first time I've seen Cotto trash-talking his opponent... calling him a criminal, a total shame to his country, and that Cotto's dog is more of a person than Margarito is. Cotto is truly angry, and honestly wants to hurt Margarito. Margarito, meanwhile, is playing up the part, hurling insults back at Cotto and just playing the bad guy.
I'm going to be watching at my brother-in-law's house, which will surely be packed with friends and family. They're making some "asopao de camarones", sort of like a shrimp stew... and the beer will be flowing. Luckily, my brother-in-law lives in a rural area, with no neighbors really close by, because I plan to do a lot of yelling and screaming at the TV set.
The fight comes on really late local time (about 12:15 pm, Puerto Rico time), so I want to make sure I feel rested and alert for the fight, since last night I didn't sleep much. I probably won't be able to get on the forum tonight, no matter what happens..... but tomorrow I plan to be here bright and early, win or lose.
Cheers all.

Are you FCKN kidding??? 3 years ago there was just as much anticipation for the first fight, I can say without a doubt that the first fight has been the most anticipated fight I have ever watched and also the most emotional for me mainly because I had just signed up to this forum, I had just gotten back into wactching boxing regularly, and to be honest because I talked alot of trash on the first one both before the fight and after the fight. I was 27 back then, I reread some of my posts and I was surprised to read my posts from back then, I would have guessed i was like 13. Between Titofan and ElTerrible I remember some heated arguments back then, it was all in good fun for me.
This time around Im not as emptionally into it mostly because Margarito turned out to be a scumbag so I cant really back someone like that too much but I will be cheering for him to get a redemption victory tonight. CANT WAIT!!!!

See here's the thing, Onix. As far as I'm concerned, the fight's a tossup. Margarito's got the size advantage, and the weight (154) favors him. Cotto's the better boxer by far, but at 154 he probably loses a little power. Margarito wants to prove he can win clean, but Cotto is angry about the 1st fight, and wants to hurt Margarito.
But no matter how it ends, Cotto is and will still be a class act. And Margarito is and will always be just a low-life scumbag.
I can live with that.
;)

Well yeah.... the 1st fight was much anticipated also.... you're right. And you're also right when you say you seemed 13.
;) :)
Ha if Margarito wins prepare for the same just cuz you agreed with me ;)
?
Agreed about what? That you seemed 13 at the time? Well.......... yeah. So?
You guys just make it too easy, I just hope that there is no controversy and whoever wins makes it very clear.
I can live with that.
;)
I can appreciate that, I actually think Cotto has more of an advantage in this fight than he did in the last fight. I am also curious to see how this fight plays out at the heavier weight.
Its hard for me to explain why I want Margo to win, I dont really like his as a person but the fact that he has never gotten respect as a fighter, even before the hand wrap inicident, no I dont have a single post showing this but it is the truth, just makes me want him to win to shut down the haters and prove that he didnt need anything to be the better man than Cotto.

I hope Cotto ruins Margarito's eye...I'd like for Cotto to hit Tony so hard Tony's eye pops out and lands on the canvas.

Re: Cotto vs Margarito - the rematch - Saturday night chat/fight thread
You know, I used to be a fan of Marg before the plaster. If you go back and look at my posts before the first fight, I said that I hated that they were fighting each other, because I didn't want either one to lose. Of course I was rooting for Miguel, and when he lost, I said congrats to the cheater, and didn't bitch about it.
Then when plastergate happened, it made me despise the guy. I still don't think that he should have ever been let into a ring again. He risked his opponents lives, and that shit just doesn't fly with me. I know, I know, there is no proof that he used them against Cotto, but there are things that just don't add up, and when asked direct questions about the red mark and the tear, he plays dumb, and doesn't give an answer. And if he and his team insist that someone from Cotto's camp was in the room with them, then name that person. Why don't they name that person? Also, his demeanor is that of a liar, which we already know that he is, since he lied about cutting ties with Capetillo. Not to mention that he has shown absolutely no remorse for what happened. If he is playing the I didn't know route, he should still have some remorse, and take some responsibility, but he doesn't.
With that said, I hope to hell Miguel beats the shit out of him. He deserves nothing less.
If Marg wins, so be it, he has Miguels number. But just because he may win tonight, it will not change my mind that he cheated in the first fight.

Believe me..... if Margarito wins, there's gonna be a few "closet" fans that will come out of hiding.

Re: Cotto vs Margarito - the rematch - Saturday night chat/fight thread
I'm predicting a Margarito win. Though he hasn't looked great recently, neither has Cotto and I just believe Margarito to be that much tougher than Cotto. Margarito will walk through Cotto and when it gets rocky for Cotto, you just have to wonder when enough will be enough for him and it all comes back to haunt him.
Margarito WILL get stronger, Cotto has been known to fade. The same significant factor as in the last fight.

Re: Cotto vs Margarito - the rematch - Saturday night chat/fight thread
Damn, I didn't realize that Cotto-Margs, Rios-Murray, Rodriguez-Wolak II, and Jones-Lujan were all on this card.
Rodriguez-Wolak II not being televised is a shame. Great FNF fight material.

What time does the fight start in the UK??
