Re: Manny pacqiou vs roberto duran
Pac is doesnt have the ring IQ to beat a complete fighter like Duran. He gets his ass beat at any weight.

Exactly what I was going to say. Duran was too complete a fighter for Pac.

Re: Manny pacqiou vs roberto duran
Duran would have beat him, most of the fighter in the 80's would
have beat him, sorry to say it boy's.

Re: Manny pacqiou vs roberto duran
Duran would ko Paq in the later rounds. A great fight to watch would be Marquez vs Duran, that would be just as entertaining.

Re: Manny pacqiou vs roberto duran
very predictable answers, just like Ali is the best HW in history
pac would win 9 times out of 10

Re: Manny pacqiou vs roberto duran
A while back people were saying Duran at lightweight and Manny at welterweight as he proved a better fighter. Now that Manny has had a poor performance suddenly Duran becomes favourite again. Not saying I disagree but Manny has done very well and been consistently great at moving up the weights except for his last performance.

It depends an awful lot on the weight class, IMO. I think at 147, it's a competitive fight. At 135, Duran takes him apart. People who only became familiar with Duran after the Leonard fights really don't appreciate how good he was at 135 and below. IMO, he's one of the few fighters who can realistically be in the discussion for all-time greatest P4P. After his last fight at 135, he was 63-1, with 53 knockouts. His one loss was a decision (Esteban DeJesus) that he had avenged with two knockouts. That was the one fight he'd lost in the first 10 years of his career, and the opposition was stiff, with his winning the lightweight title a week after he turned 21. Duran was just an absolute machine at 135 and below. And 147 and above, and when he was in his 30's, he was "merely" great. But the 70s version of Duran was a whole other thing.

I agree at lightweight but what about at 147lb, Duran was the first man to beat leonard, even Hearns could not do it, but he did have some poor performances too.

Re: Manny pacqiou vs roberto duran
not many people today would beat a prime Duran, he wasn't just some brute brawler who came forward, he was an excellent counter puncher, had good defense and foot work, flexible, an underrated jab, and stamina to boot, he would be a nightmare for pretty much anyone today especially from 135 to 147, he would smother Manny and take away his movement and basically burn him out IMO, but Pacquiao's speed would make it interesting, but IMO Duran by KO in the later rounds

Are you idding me? Duran would demolish JMM!!!
Willie Pep vs Pacquiao, now THAT is a fight!

Re: Manny pacqiou vs roberto duran
Duran would've quit, "No mas", and would've exited rather abruptly with the lamest excuse before the end of the second round. ;)
Ooops! I forgot, this is one of those hypothetical situations, or "If" scenarios that Pacquiao savagely loses eleven out of ten times... Hehehe!:)
Duran by brutal KO before the end of the first minute! Har! Har! ;)
-
Re: Manny pacqiou vs roberto duran
How long would Pac Man, last with Hagler one round if he is lucky:Oops:
Duran is no cur, no cur would get in the Ring and stand toe to toe with Hagler,;D

that was one fight, followed up by wars against Hagler, Barkley, Davey Moore, then he went tooth and nail with Hearns until getting sparked, Pacquiao hits nowhere near as hard as Hearns, it's not an insult to Pacquiao to say that he would probably lose to Duran in his prime, the greatest Lightweight in the history of the sport

Re: Manny pacqiou vs roberto duran
Also remember that Duran lost to Benitez and Lang.

Benitez was a master technician, and was a great defensive fighter, so it's not much different from Marquez whooping Pacquiao's ass

it was considered the upset of the year for a reason, and are you seriously trying to underplay how good Duran was by pointing out those two losses? he followed it up by the devastating whooping of Moore not too far later

Re: Manny pacqiou vs roberto duran
I say this fight would be fight of the decade, it would be a hellvua fight, i wouldnt know who to give it to because there are simply two sides to the story

Re: Manny pacqiou vs roberto duran
Duran flat out quit!
He probably couldn't stand being so upstaged and humiliated by a former boxing victim, Sugar Ray Leonard... so perplexed at the unfavorable sequencing of events unfolding before his eyes, his next move was unfathomable! He packed up to go to the bathroom, or so he says so as his purpose. Hehehe! Booty call!
This act shows a considerable disregard that he has for the fans and for boxing conventions.
I guess if you have to go... YOU HAVE TO GO! Maybe planning ahead so as not to “GO” in the middle of a fight is stuff for strong strategy…
Duran opened a crack for misgivings to occupy an entry in his resume for this bitch move. This one, undoubtedly, Roberto Duran wants badly back.
Too bad, legend as he was during his time in the ring, I see an impropriety in aligning Roberto Duran's name among the names of all time great fighters who do not have "QUIT" in them! Just my opinion.

I am a fan of Duran but just pointing out he was inconsistent and speed was his vulnerability at the higher weights.

Pacquiao hasn't quit against anyone like Leonard cause he's never fought anyone as good as Leonard, Mayweather will show just how badly Leonard would have smacked that ass, only thing Leonard is a bigger, faster, stronger version of Mayweather with better combinations, Duran quit, but he wasn't KO'd by two straw weights or did he ever avoid defensive geniuses like a certain fighter who tried to wait out his opponent finally facing him when he believed that he was old enough to take apart and had that plan bite him in the ass, lets just put it this way Duran has already gone down as the greatest Lightweight in the history of the sport, even by some (including JC Chavez SR.) as the greatest Latino fighter to have lived, Pacquiao wont go down as the greatest in any division he fought in, and definitely won't go down as the greatest fighter to have lived, but yea he might get the nod as greatest Filipino fighter and a guy who picked up a couple legit titles, and a bunch of paper trinkets to later bloat it up as if he was a legit 8 weight class champion, he's as much a 8 division World Champ as Oscar is a 10 time world champion
