Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
Just read on ESPN (link below) that Brandon Rios had not eaten for 5 days in the lead up to the Murrey fight at the weekend to try and make weight and only had drank a few ounces of water in 2 days.
How the hell did he have enough energy to fight let alone get the win
He definitely needs to move up in weight

Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
No excuse for that. If it's too hard to make weight then just go up and beat the fuck out of Amir Khan.

Rios is full of shit. My Nan is more bad ass than him.

Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
if this is true then well done to him, although he was in command it was still a tough fight with Murray. For somebody who hadn't eaten for 5 days he seemed to have a lot of energy for the fight. He needs to move up straight away and get involved in the 140 mix. Maidana wouldn't be scared to fight him and that fight would be a war !!! let it happen please ;D

I just can't congratulate someone who in my eyes is that sacred of fighting guys his own size...!
I mean Mayweather's last fight at 130 required him to starve himself for two days and he is now at 147, I'm sure based on that Logic that Brandon should be fighting at Light Middleweight, easily!

Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
That's just dumb! Dumb shit for a trainer to allow and for a fighter to do. You can tell by looking at him, he's thick all over and soft in the middle. The way he tajes to give that can only lead to him getting ktfo. Move your ass up already cause your biological clock could care less about some trinket.

Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
it sounds more like damage control to me, he struggled more than they expected and now are trying to give an excuse for it, if he did in fact have to go so long without eating then he obviously should be moving up, and not just one division

Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
And my boy bambam still fucked him up, possibly shortening murrays career. Murray will not be the same after that ass whoopin. Murray is finished. Not that he was ever gonna be a major threat at 135 but hell probably be a gatekeeper from now.
-
Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
That doesn't sound healthy, he looked like he just got off his death bed at the weigh in. He needs to move up to 140, I want to see him brawl with maidana.

Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
This was supposed to be a total mismatch and it ended up being a closer than expected fight. It's not a huge accomplishment for Rios. It just served the purpose of showing that Rios can't fight at 135 anymore.

Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
I do not think Rios tried to make weight at the end think he played up a lot on looking weak and trying to get Murray to think he could beat him.
-
Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
he shouldn't have been at 135 for a while now. He weighed 150 in the ring in one of his televised fights in the past year. 150!! When everyone else that walks into the ring who weighs in at 135, weigh around 143-145 or so.
He is the same size as junior welters and he has been killing himself to make weight.

Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
Absolutely has to move up...but credit to him for fighting so well against Murray. I can't help but feel Joe Gallagher made a number of mistakes surrounding the fight, most notably letting Murray take at least 1 round too much of a beating.
-
Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
You guys do realize Rios is exaggerating and that AFTER he made weight, or didn't make weight I should say, he could and probably did eat as much as he wanted to. Its not like he starved himself and didn't eat anything then fought Murray.

Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight

Agreed man..... No way that happened. He would have been zapped after warming up in his dressing room.

Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
Rios wouldn't have been in the ring but in the hospital instead if he didn't eat for 5 days.
-
Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
Absolute bullshit. He'd have been no condition to fight.

Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
I dont understand all this hate for rios. It's not like murray had a chance anyway. He was brought in to get knocked out and he played his role well. Outcome was pre determined.
murray is a domestic level fighter.

You challenge someone at a weight, minimum requirement...make the weight.
You gonna talk shit and badmouth everyone, including such lows as mocking someone's disability....don't be surprised when your not flavour of the month
Despite being massively bigger than the so called domestic level fighter you face in the ring you can not knock him unconscious... you are not the second coming of Roberto Duran
The outcome was not pre-determined Rios could not win the belt, was that part of the plan?

Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
Murray was brought in as a stepping stone plain and simple. He didnt have to fight an overweight rios, but he took the extra 20k, fought, and took his ass whooping. End of story.
Rios better not make this a habit though.

A Decent European champ I think, he looked awful against Karim El Ouazghari, and I'm honestly not sure if he's even the 3rd best in the UK (Burns and Mitchell are ahead of him, Rees, Crolla and Matthews would each give him a decent fight). Strange how strong the division is in Britain so I'm not sure saying "domestic" is actually that degrading here...

I'd actually say that Murray wasn't brought in as a stepping stone at all. Murray was brought in as a replacement for Kevin Mitchell who couldn't travel to the US due to having a criminal record. Looking at the compubox stats (not that they are super accurate) i'd say Murray, as a replacement for a better fighter, proved more than a stepping stone and gave alot back. I actually like Rios though, tough motherfucker with way better boxing skills and footwork than your average brawler for sure. All i'd say is when he steps up and fights someone his own "fight night" size, that normally unmarked face of his won't be so unmarked. I'd love to see him in with Timothy Bradley.
As an extra note. Its all IFs, but, If Murrays face didn't mark so easily and he had more punch power, the fight with Rios would have been an EPIC WAR!!!

Re: Rios had not eaten for 5 days prior to the Murrey fight
Finally seeing this fight right now on HBO Latino. Rios looks over fed and over produced. I cannot in anyway see this guy staying around long at all. His best approach here is rolling shots under and up but has a knack for catching even pieces of punches, if not the whole thing waaay too easily. Once on his heels I think he see's dead people.

Kevin Mitchell has a criminal record ???
But he's from Dagenham.
