BRIAN "The Hawaiian Punch" VILORIA with a HUGE upset win over Giovanni Segura
Wow. That may be the biggest upset of the year. I don't believe anyone on here at least predicted Viloria to knockout Segura. Was that a huge hematoma on the right side of Segura's head? Segura didn't even seem to notice it -- that's the kind of warrior he is though. Viloria is now back in the mix at the lower weight classes. Is it too much to ask for a unification fight with Tyson Marquez or Pongsaklek Wonjongkam? Between Segura basically retiring Calderon, Marquez's thrilling bouts with Concepcion, and now Viloria's shocker over Segura, we're seeing some excitement at the lower weights. Anyway, the Hawaiian Punch is back!

Maybe a touch, but Giovanni wasn't complaining at all, and considering his head looked like it was going to burst from Viloria's punches, I wasn't mad about it.

Viloria should only fight highly ranked guys that are expected to beat/stop him.
What little I saw Segura looked clueless, hands down, jumping in. Still, good win for Viloria, and it doesn't exactly bother me to see a Capetillo fighter losing.

I only see Segura fight Calderon, but he reminded me of Margarito in lower weightclasses. A relentless guy with alot of heart but not much else, maybe he was a bit overrated ? seeing as Calderon was past his best aswell.

GREAT Viloria was able to win this.

Prolly his best victory of his boxing career.

Re: BRIAN "The Hawaiian Punch" VILORIA with a HUGE upset win over Giovanni Segura
better than the Solis fight because almost everyone expected a segura win.
Archie Solis is the more accomplished fighter though.

Exactly. I think the Solis victory is bigger based on his accomplishments. Plus, Viloria showed the ability to overcome adversity in that bout so i give him more respect for that win.

I think this win is bigger than the Solis fight, Segura was a p4p rated fighter.
Great win for Viloria! Segura had no answer for that counter left hook
Viloria needs to fight Wonjongkam, Marquez or Milan next.
Segura will be back

Re: BRIAN "The Hawaiian Punch" VILORIA with a HUGE upset win over Giovanni Segura
I never really cared to much for Segura. He was a loss waiting to happen. This fight was never gonna be decided by him. It all depended on Viloria. If he was on his game he would cruise to a win. It he wasn't he wouldn't of made it out the 2nd. Unfortunately for Segura he was.

Re: BRIAN "The Hawaiian Punch" VILORIA with a HUGE upset win over Giovanni Segura
Segura's best win will always be his wins vs Calderon, especially the first win cause Calderon still had something left in the tank (although not much), but even in that fight if Calderon actually had power he probably would have stopped Segura with the number of clean "hard" punches he was landing on him, I have always said it and will say it again, if Calderon had any real power to go along with his blitzing speed, movement, and defense he would have easily gone down as one of the top 3 guys (along with Lopez and Carbajal) at 105 and 108 in the history of the sport, this is a great win for Viloria and I honestly hope he fights like this more often

I would really get up for a fight with Wonjongkam or Marquez.

Re: BRIAN "The Hawaiian Punch" VILORIA with a HUGE upset win over Giovanni Segura
If Viloria beats Marquez or Wonjongkam, he has a decent claim to top ten p4p status, which would mean there are three boxers of Philipino heritage in the top ten. Pretty wild.

Who are their promoters? Is it realistic that it could happen?

Based on his career pattern he'll probabley lose to someone like Wilbert Uicab or Moruti Mthalane in his next fight

you're not lieing, but, of course, it could be that he just put everything together finally

I think it's more of a case of him fighting down to the level of his opposition.

Spot on. Brian really needs a win in his next fight to cement his goal of being a p4p contender, otherwise too many inconsistencies ruin his otherwise stellar record. He's been gifted with tremendous natural talent, it's criminal if he won't use them if he plans to make boxing his main profession.
Here's hoping a pongsaklek or marquez vs viloria fight gets made. I really want to see viloria at his absolute best.
Brian needs to be an underdog all his life if he ever plans to achieve boxing stardom.

Re: BRIAN "The Hawaiian Punch" VILORIA with a HUGE upset win over Giovanni Segura
I agree with VD that Viloria fights down to his opponents level, he should be matched tough from here on. I think this win will only add to his confidence & couple that with his ability & we could see a more consistent Viloria

Re: BRIAN "The Hawaiian Punch" VILORIA with a HUGE upset win over Giovanni Segura
A little prayer goes a long way!
Heard that Giovani Segura was further held to hospital confines as precautionary means to assure proper healing for the injuries he sustained in his fight with Viloria. The extra days on medical attention are to balance out the seriousness of his situation which was missed upon initial or cursory attendance.
Precaution is the "word.
For this excellent young man from Mexico, with so much life ahead of him, wife and kids, you can never go wrong affording him with much of this thing, precaution. This is so, so as he can go on life with a proper groundwork and continuity. Sometimes in these situations, you miss some seemingly inconsequential medication, down the line, the repercussion is so incomprehensible. Better safe than sorry!
Excellent medical services surely help too, to add.
Get well, Giovani!

Re: BRIAN "The Hawaiian Punch" VILORIA with a HUGE upset win over Giovanni Segura
Apparently a deluge of prayers went Segura's way!
Seriously!
According to the most recent write-up, Giovani has already been discharged from the hospital sans the rumored orbital fracture suffered in the area of the right eye.
Swollen, yeah, but visual damage, none.
TBTG!
