Best fighters at adapting to win?

Alot of my favourite boxers are pretty one dimentional ie hatton & nigel benn, both great to watch with raw power but niether had an angle of winning other than rampaging foward throwing bombs! The best boxer of finding a way to win in my time (so far!) is the obvious one floyd mayweather, it doesnt matter wat styles infront of him slugger, speedster, rugged mexican or southpaw he finds a way to win! Also carl frochs pretty gud at adapting in fights, over this super six hes had loads of different styles infront of him and always done well, even when losing a close decsion on away turf to kessler, who'd u lot remember for been gud at changin game plans after the first bell and why????

Sugar Ray Leonard is on the short list, even if only based on the Hearns fight. That fight was built up as a classic boxer (Leonard) vs. slugger (Hearns) confrontation, but Leonard was getting outboxed, thanks to Hearns's amazing reach. So Leonard changed horses mid-stream and became the slugger, and scored the TKO. He didn't do it mid-fight, but his adjustment between Duran I and Duran II was also noteworthy.

Floyd Mayweather, we have seen him adapt in hard situations like the Judah fight.

This. No one else that I have seen ever comes close.

Joe calzaghe was good at he adapted well in the kessler fight.

Yeah joe was petty dynamic. Bit of this bit of that. Not exactly a quick wit nor studious but was in amaizing condition, well coordinated and actually very well rounded with that confidence just try something new.

Mayweather has an amazing ring IQ and evidently knows more about an opponents abilities than maybe they would even know themselves. Show him one card and you may have revealed your whole hand!

I really like Andre Ward man. He has that style that lasts. No flaws, no over exuberance, the bullshit has already done gone out the window for Andre (as Nazim Richardson might say) and he has proved that he can definatly box to suit. It comes naturally to him to just do the necessary.

Carl Froch just seems to be able to draw his man in or keep his at arms length per fight as he so choses, bit of a pied piper. Would be interesting to see what his genuine intentions are for Ward and how Ward chooses to respond. (I say it that way round because Ward has the better fundinentals to open and close).

Floyd may be the best to do such. Not only do he adapt to the fighter he's facing, but he changes style during the round. And IMO, throws off more fighters then anything. He can start a round off throwing jabs or 1, 2's. Then a minute in, pocket fight. Then the last minute, counter. His opponents have to have a plan B and C. But most if any, don't know how to go from C to A to B when Floyd adjust.

As a few have already said, Mayweather may be the best at this there has ever been. He epitomises what it is to be a 'Ring General'. Marquez is pretty good at it, too.

calzages a good shout. I remember joe breaking his best hand in a fight and he still winning easily One handed!!

Mayweather and Marquez are the first to come to mind

Any one who is busy and successful needs to be mentioned like Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley.

Especially since we already know or have a great "NOTION" of how he "could" have adapted and "would" have effortlessly beaten bigger guys like a "prime Mosely", Cotto, Margarito, Williams, or even Clottey. Throw in the present, clamored fan "faves of the moment", Maravilla, and on a smaller scale, Pacquiao.

We already know anyway how PBF Jr. "would" have just annihilated these... er... challengers? with extreme ease. Wasted effort, a lot of PBF die hards will vow. Warning has even been issued to these elite fighters, as long as they stay away from PBF, they are fine!

"Should" these fights ever have taken off during the perceived time frame of maximum relevance, Mayweather's unequaled skill "should" have been quite a "marvel on display" and "would" have had been too much. It "would" have awed us all without end.

Hell, each one of 'em "could" have even been fight of the year candidates... each and everyone of these "envisioned" matches! No use tho' waste of energy, Floyd Jr. picks em all apart silly.

Floyd Jr. adjusts pretty well against any competition, all opposition, including the more than your average ones, with particular mention for a specialty on fights having size disparity!

The Mangoose Archie Moore was famously renown for his capacity to adapt and to change tactics whenever the clock was tickin' against him. He has to be part of the top 3, at worst I could negociate for the top 5.

Calzaghe always found a way to win. He came out all gungho against Kessler realised he would be better off trying to box rather than mix it up. He confused everyone he ever fought, nobody could really work him out or keep up with him.

Not saying he's a great fighter but you have to say Ricky Burn's, did prove to
a lot of people he is a good fighter.?;D:bowdown:

Mayweather Jr the obvious one, Marquez is excellent at it..and to a lesser extent Fernando Vargas could adapt nicely until he gassed out late. (vs Tito)
Maravila adapted nicely against Barker.
