Whitney Houston dead at 48...
Whitney Houston -- Dead at 48 | TMZ.com
Wow... words can't describe. Sad story of a talented voice that eventually couldn't get off the drugs no matter how we as fans or her family could inspire her to get off of them. Sad sad sad day really. May she RIP.
-
Re: Whitney Houston dead at 48...
Yeah, I've been watching the reporting on this on CNN. Sad News.
I'm not really into that kind of music, but there is no denying that she had a great voice.
May she rest in place.

Re: Whitney Houston dead at 48...
She started on her way down the day she hooked up with that loser Bobby Brown.

she was on drugs before she even hooked up with the 17 year old Bobby Brown. As sad as it is to say, Whitney had already started before she got with the guy.
And other young stars and actors and actresses should look at her as an example of great talent falling because of bad decisions. Hopefully they will learn from it. Sad story either way. Looking at Bobby since their break up, in shape, touring, been sober and drug free since then especially because of their daughter, and then looking at Whitney who was still going on her same path with everyone protecting her she never had someone that would tell her "stop" for a long enough time, and it's sad :( Record executives etc that let their clients still go down a path cause they make them money is despicable and I really hope that changes. Whitney is also an example of that.

While I don't dispute that, there was a HUGE, NOTICEABLE difference in her demeanor and appearance before Bobby Brown, and after Bobby Brown. Pre-Bobby Brown she was young-looking, perky, happy, and a superstar at her peak. Post-Bobby Brown I can still remember her on TV... looking all haggard and frazzled (drugged out)... slamming and lashing out at all who opposed her being with her man. It was truly sad and somewhat pathetic.
-
Re: Whitney Houston dead at 48...
Bobby Brown is irrelevant. She used before and after. It is just that she chose to break the image by marrying him. Everyone blames him but I think it is nonsense. She chose to take those drugs.
The fall is incredibly sad though. She really couldn't reach the notes of those old songs anymore. It was someone who was a master of the craft, but had become somewhat senile and unable to do it anymore.
Time had been wasted and delusion made her think she could get away with it. She couldn't and she was over the hill and still young.
I am no fan of Houston, but I do respect her to a certain degree. She was grand and the world is far less without her.

Re: Whitney Houston dead at 48...
- Whitney Houston to star in her new film. The Bodybag.
- There's going to be a huge line outside Whitney Hustons funeral next week... Which coincidentally is what killed her
- Amy and Whitney? Heavens gonna need more crack!
- First Amy whinehouse, now Whitney Huston... Columbia has a tough financial year ahead
- Whitney Huston dies just hours after being asked to judge on the next season of x factor... Personally I think she made the right choice
-What was Whitney Houston's worst hit? The one that killed her.
- Whitney Houston won an impressive six grammys in fourteen years. Slightly less impressive was her recent attempt at six grams in fourteen minutes.
- Media reports say that The Police were unable to revive Whitney. I always knew Sting and his mates were cunts, this proves it.
- The cause of Whitney's death is not clear, as we all know crack is white.
- Whitney Houston's life was like skiing. Once you get on the white powder its all downhill from there.
- Whitney Houston took more shots in the arm than a Norwegian Youth camp.
- What is 6 inches long and not getting blown this Valentines Day? Whitney Houston's Crack Pipe!
- How many Whitney Houstons does it take to screw in a light bulb?
...No idea, the lightbulb never made it that far.

Re: Whitney Houston dead at 48...
why are people shocked a drug user has died early ?
she was a singer and used drugs for years , so why so shocked ?
personally i couldnt stand her warbling anyway.

Re: Whitney Houston dead at 48...
It was a sad loss and it was terrible. I have no memory of posting what I did.
She was a great singer and a real human being. What more could you ask?
Not my style of music, but I respect her.

P.S, I realise my 1st post looks like a response to yours. It wasn't. Just being short.

I see it differently. She looked great and seemed great.

In truth, I haven't been good for several days. It's hard to know sometimes where those posts are coming from. I'm kind of okay now though.
No, I am not particularly into Whitney Houston. She hasn't been an artist I am into in any way, but there are good songs there and in her pomp she could sing. It's sad to say that they expect artists like that to hit certain notes forever. Nobody can.
I don't feel strongly on the issue of Whitney Houston. No need for any fight over Whitney Houston at all. She is alright and some nice tracks and that is as far as I shall venture.

Did she have more of an effect on the world than Steve Jobs? Is she more deserving of our sadness at her passing. Boz you basically said suggested that Steve Jobs was not worthy of an RIP thread.

Let's not ignore what Apple contributes to humanity.

Whitney Houston never did these kinds of things. We ignore it just as long as we have a piece of plastic in our hands. She hurt herself, Apple hurts a lot more.

Didn't even watch that TBH , but Whitney Houston funded the pockets of drug dealers that kept them in business and allowing them to sell drugs to others including the vunerable.
Apple has changed the world we live in fact - and that's nothing to do with phones or Ipads.
Anyway, who cares

Well, you should watch. It is important and you would change your views on Jesus Jobs.
And don't forget Apple has done well because of slave labour. Steve Jobs was a nob. And frankly Whitney Houston was a far more interesting human being.

Re: Whitney Houston dead at 48...
Whitney Houston is something that doesn't matter to me, but when you have people saying that Steve jobs matters more I do take issue.
I started a thread years ago attacking China for their human right issues and nobody cared and suddenly Jobs is God and we should all say so. Utter crap.
The guy was a self interested business man and in turn his own actions hang him. He wasn't very nice.
-
Re: Whitney Houston dead at 48...
Am I supposed to admit I am wrong here?
Apple has wage slaves who kill themselves.
And people are supposed to herald Jobs who was a bit of a cunt?
-
I started a thread about apple in which you did not contribute, in which I found I had something in common with Bilbo, as well as living down the road from him. Everyone seemed to take this to mean we were bumming each other. At least I can't be accused of bumming a guy in south Korea who makes plain his adversion to bumming on each post.

True, I am not really into bumming and find that a bit odd.
I don't like Apple, but I have a hard time having any affinity with huge corporations. I find young Koreans who love Samsung to be quite odd. Unless you have a stake in a corporation you shouldn't really feel any love for it and more so when they act unethically. I refuse to get what they call a smart phone. I like my old phone and I can call people, that is all that I need.
Whitney Houston had a lovely voice and entertained people. She was alright, she was an entertainer. I find very little entertaining about Steve Jobs. He was boring, just like Bill Gates. But he was good at making money and for that we are all expected to bow. They make money from commercializing what was developed by the Pentagon using tax payers money and then abuse workers overseas. I find it all rather cynical.
I prefer the simplicity of a song and voice over corporate monoliths and that is just me.
-
Re: Whitney Houston dead at 48...
If I don't contribute to a thread sometimes it doesn't mean that I don't have views. It is just that sometimes I take a back seat and don't jump in. In this thread I have been a bit weird and jumpy. I should probably have stayed a little more mute. Whitney Houston is hardly Bob Dylan, but I do prefer artists over businessmen. If Steve Jobs had made an album I would have had more respect.
Do we remember the guy who invented the oven? It is a very important piece of equipment and yet we are supposed to revere Steve Jobs and for me Jobs was never able to do something as useful as invent an oven. I use it everyday. I don't see the point in many of his devices. I simply do not need them, but I do need Highway 61 revisited in my life. It's like Facebook. Everyone seems to rely on it, but I don't. I like words and sounds and not technology and typically businessmen don't adhere to my worldview either.
I am a dinosaur and know it, but I kind of like it that way. Who do I prefer Thatcher or Sinatra? It is a no brainer, I am always going to prefer the artist over a corporatist type. Only strange people have a thing for businesses and politicians.
-
Re: Whitney Houston dead at 48...
Anyway, I am back and feel good. My apocalyptic visions have receded and I am feeling articulate and clear again. I am even posting in response to myself which will make Bilbo angry. It is a good feeling. There is definitely a loony within though and that needs to be caged. Quite definitely. And in terms of Steve Jobs. I have nothing against the guy, he just hasn't had any impact on my life and I don't like corporations that don't respect human rights. It just isn't very nice.
Whitney Houston? That's a strange one. Her music was kind of okay though. I mean you contrast her with someone like Maria Carey and you cannot name a single tune, but Whitney was able to work with people who could write and you do remember them and there were quite a few. I'm an alternative music fan, but out of all those pop dudes she was alright. Michael Jackson too. They had tunes. Justin Timberlake has never had tunes.

I never said Jobs' life was worth more, I was actually highlighting the fact that you made a big song and dance about him getting an RIP thread, one of your reasons being (and reasons you and others have stated on other threads) that Steve Jobs' (or anybody's) death is no more sad than anybody elses in the world and that millions die each day. I was just making the point that you seem to feel differently about Whitney Houston (and Gary Speed) in that their deaths, for some reason deserve some recognition (even though millions of other people died on those days)

some peoples deaths can be a little bit more sad than others
there was this bird at my school called angela and she was from a rough area of the world and her parents didnt have a lot of money, there was all stories about domestic abuse and stuff like that
at school she was bullied really badly, people constantly calling her names and that. The name she was called the most as i remember was scrubber
i was walking down the road with a friend of mine once and she walked past on the other side of the road and my mate just started abusing her, it was pretty shocking
anyway i recently found out she died of cancer at the age of 17
now thats a sad story, sadder than most, a lot more sad than a rich pop star who lived the high life and had all the things she wanted and just took too many drugs in the end

No, they are just different.
But your story is very sad.
Death is death no matter what fanfare.

I don't know, these things are all relative and mean more to some than others. I'm not a fan, but don't like it when people die. The only people I am indifferent to are war criminals and Cliff Richard.
-
Re: Whitney Houston dead at 48...
If you don't care about your own life, why should you expect others to care? Tens of thousands of people die every year who are far more worthy of being mourned than Whitney Houston, but you won't hear a word about most of them.
-
Re: Whitney Houston dead at 48...
I'm already so fucking sick of hearing about her. The media's sanctification of her and her daughter is revolting.
I have no problem with her or with the way she lived her life FWIW. She didn't hurt anybody but herself.
