Salido vs Lopez II Saturday fight thread

:action: I'm really looking forward to this one Saturday on Showtime from San Juan. Part of me thinks JuanMa underestimated Salido the 1st time, and he'll be reborn hard, and get his WBO featherweight title back Saturday. Another part of me is saying that Salido has Lopez' number and we see a repeat of the 1st fight. In any event this should be a fight well worth watching, both pugs will be bringing it.
March 10
At San Juan, Puerto Rico (Showtime): Orlando Salido vs. Juan Manuel Lopez, rematch, 12 rounds, for Salido's WBO featherweight title; Miguel Angel "Mikey" Garcia vs. Bernabe Concepcion, 10 rounds, featherweights; Jose Gonzalez vs. Juan Garcia, 10 rounds, lightweights.
Thoughts?

This fight on Showtime starts @ 10:00 PM ET here in North America or at 3:00 AM sunday in the UK, if you're up and about at that time check it out, it should be worth it. :drinker:

Promo says "Vengeance or Validation?" I'll choose "vengeance". Hopefully JuanMa made the necessary adjustments. He's a better all-around fighter than Salido. If he uses his considerable skills correctly, he should get his payback.

I wish. I used to go more often with a group of buddies... but for some reason we've become disconnected, and we didn't plan this one with enough time. I might try something "last-ditch", but if not... I'll just watch it on TV like everybody else.

I quit going to live boxing events here in Texas or Vegas a long time ago. I mean it was great fun while it lasted, but I just don't like dealing with big crowds, the parking, et al. It's so much better for me to kick back in my den with a beverage and watch the fights in HD on my wide screen TV.
BTW, I may actually buy the Cotto vs. Floyd PPV, i'm considering it, it does however go against my vow to never buy a Mayweather Jr. PPV.

My thoughts are JuanMa took Salido lightly the first go round, and will be better prepared this time.
Should be one the best fights of 2012, Salido is a tough hombre.

Tough fight to pick a winner. I like Lopez by decision. However, I can see many outcomes playing out.

Tito - how expensive is to go to fights on the island? Similiar pricing to US?

Re: Salido vs Lopez II on Showtime Saturday

If Lopez sticks to his game plan and doesn't try slugging it out he should win a close UD but I'm not too confident in that prediction. Nevertheless it'll be a good fight, looking forward to it.

The PPV in HD on DIRECTV would cost $65, the more I think about it the more I think i'll find a stream somewhere, and watch the replay the following weekend. As much as I like Cotto's fights, he's fighting Mayweather.

Tickets for this fight are going for anywhere from $25 to probably around $400-500 for a ringside seat, i guess. From previous experiences, the Clemente Colisseum, where the fight is being held, doesn't really have any "bad" seats. So a $25 ticket can actually get you a pretty good seat, whereas for $50 you can probably get some of the best seats in the house (I like to be a bit above the action).

BoxNation will show this Saturday night’s explosive rematch between WBO World Featherweight Champion Orlando Salido and Juan Manuel Lopez live and exclusive from San Juan, Puerto Rico. It will form a big night of action from two continents with Ricky Burns’ WBO World Lightweight title defence against Paulus Moses, also live on BoxNation. :)

Moses is from Namibia, and almost all of his fights have been in Africa, he held the WBA World lightweight title for 2 fights, then lost it when he was KO'd by Miguel Acosta in his 3rd WBA title scrap.
Burns doesn't have much power but it's enough to keep his opponents honest, and even though this is only his 2nd WBO championship fight @ lightweight, he's a couple inches taller than Moses and weight won't be an issue. (It wasn't against Katsidis)
Should be an entertaining fight tomorrow afternoon here in the states, i'll watch it on a live feed.

The 1st 2 rounds Lopez still looked ok.

in the first fight, I wanted to smack him every time he said PORT- OOOO- Rico. Can you read? How in the hell is PUERTO, pronounced PORT-O- Rico.
He has no idea when someone is hurt.

Just as good on the replay! Seeing it on big screen and not some shotty stream makes huge difference, Lopez was so stiff on ropes and didn't see 'early' stoppage really?! Tomorrow cannot get here fast enough ;D
Nah right now back in La. Think I was looking at Show. Latino.

We'll probably have no such luck, the fuck-stick keeps showing up like a bad penny.
I thought the ref might have stopped it a tad early as well.
Hopefully JuanMa worked on his defense since the 1st fight, he shouldn't have been getting caught with some of those big bombs Salido was winding up and throwing.
I'm looking forward to this fight tomorrow night.

Master, I get DIRECTV here in the States, which comes to a Satellite Dish attached to the top of my house. I get a wide variety of channels and/or programming in HD, including HBO & Showtime, which in addition to movies, carries most of the big-time boxing shown here in the U.S. and elsewhere. My "premium" channels including HBO & Showtime cost me about $50 a month, it's well worth it, but it's not like we're getting the boxing for free here. The killer part is HBO & Showtime's PPV's which you have to pay as much as $65 + extra for, in HD. It's not that I can't pay that much, but I usually refuse to on principal, especially since if it was a good fight, I can watch the replay the following weekend.
Cheers

Bro you just reminded me of that hilarious FedEx (?) commercial a couple of years ago. You ever see it? Where the office guy is trying to put a push pin on a wall map in front of his boss, and doesn't know where China is. So he fakes falling and rips the map off the wall. Gotta be one of the all-time best commercials.

Gus Johnson seems to get latino names right so when he butchered Puerto Rico, I swear he is just a dumb sob.
Teddy Atlas-he butchers almost every latino name. I wonder why espn doesn't ever have someone just sit down with him and teach him how to say latino names.
Vazquez is not pronounced VAZ- KWEZ De la hoya is not DEE-la-hoya; Marquez is not Mar-KWEZ
with teddy it can be part of his charm. He is only the analyst. But Gus is the blow by blow announcer, he does most of the talking.

As Diane pointed out, tonight's undercard fights will be shown on Showtime Extreme @ 8:00 PM ET or starting about an hour from now this should include:
Miguel Angel "Mikey" Garcia vs. Bernabe Concepcion, 10 rounds, featherweights & Jose Gonzalez vs. Juan Garcia, 10 rounds, lightweights.
Regular Showtime will show the Orlando Salido vs. Juan Manuel Lopez, rematch, beginning somewhere around 10:15 PM ET. I'm pumped for this one, a couple bottles of Bass Ale and perhaps a Guinness with the main event tonight. (another gardening accident)

I picked Salido to win... Why I don't know I just went with my gut.

2 variables for me here are:
JuanMa - I think this will be his last fight at FW. I think he is struggling with this weight and will move up.
Salido - Your only as good as your last performance. Let's be honest here he looked bad against what I can only describe a "coming home" fight and he was on the verge of losing.

Not a bad pick considering what happened the 1st time. I believe Lopez will be more focused this time, (he'd better be) improve his defense, and box his way to a UD. A KO for Lopez would be sweet, but Salido is tough to hurt, if I were Lopez I wouldn't concern myself with a stoppage, if it comes it comes.

Re: Salido vs Lopez II Saturday fight thread

lopez needs to make some changes. the salido fight wasn't an isolated occurrence.
Mtagwa had him in deep trouble late. He has gotten by on being very fucking big for the weight classes he fights in. He allows smaller guys to hit him cleanly.
When he starts fighting bigger guys he is going to get cut down if he doesn't defend much better.

He needs to box more, and show a better defense, if he goes all macho and throws caution to the wind like he did in the 1st fight, he'll get stopped again.
Anyway, the Undercard on SHO-Extreme starts in about 10 minutes.
cheers
