Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia Saturday night fight thread
:action: We're back in Texas again, hopefully we don't see any more shit decisions in my home state.
Danny Garcia is young, strong, and undefeated, (won 22-0 (KO 14) I believe Morales will have his hands full. The fight of the night might be Kirkland vs. Carlos Molina.
March 24
At Houston (HBO): Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia, 12 rounds, for Morales' WBC junior welterweight title; James Kirkland vs. Carlos Molina, 12 rounds.
I'll go with Kirkland by TKO, Molina doesn't have enough power to keep James honest. As for Morales vs Garcia, i'll go with Garcia by UD, and a possible stoppage in the late rounds, Erik's "ring age" makes him ancient.
Who does Saddoboxing's panel of experts believe will win these fights?

Re: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia on HBO Saturday
I'm no expert but I agree with your picks.
Although I think Molina and Morales are live underdogs. Kirkland just seems to be too motivated, too ferocious to be stopped by a pedestrian punching volumne puncher. Molina is good and has heart, but don't see him being able to stop the momentum of Kirkland.
Morales is really matched tough against a young gun. I don't know how he's going to beat Garcia, but Morales might be able to shock us all once more.
-
Re: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia on HBO Saturday
Garcia has talent but I just don't see much difference in him and Cano. I expect Morales to start slow and than take over the fight.
Kirkland-Molina is a 50-50 fight. Kirkland is on a roll and if I had to pick one I'm must likely going with him. But Molina is a live dog. Molina power is weak but so was the Jap's power. If he could hurt Kirkland so can Molina

Danny Garcia probably grew up watching Morales on TV, if Danny doesn't get "starstruck" by Erik, he should take care of business, and if he shows Erik too much respect, he'll lose a decision
Forget about Morales being a fucking "legend" and just kick his ass.
-
Re: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia on HBO Saturday
Danny should give Mighy Mike a rematch.
He's gona get beat by Morales, I don't think he is as strong as Cano.

Re: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia on HBO Saturday
Morales fight should be great , hope he can pull off another win,
but he is in tough, make the most of watching him because he wont
be around too long i think .

Eh, I've never been much of a fan of Morales, I've always liked Pac, Barrera and JMM much better, To be honest, I wish Erik had stayed "retired".

I used to dislike Morales and Barrera for some reason, but they grew on me. Morales will go to war with anyone even if he doesn't have to. He loves it. He was born to be a fighter. You have to love a guy like that, especially one with such talent and boxing skills other than defense. ;D

It's not that I dislike Morales, it's just for whatever reason, i've never been much of a fan. I don't however doubt that Erik will put on a good show saturday, he's a warrior.

Re: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia on HBO Saturday
I'm rooting for Morales but I think Garcia gets him on points.
I think Kirkland either stops Molina in the middle rounds or he'll outwork him for a decision.

That's similar to what i'm thinking.
Kirkland vs Molina might be the fight of the night.
-
Re: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia on HBO Saturday
I can see Molina also losing a close, debatable decision. He's come up short a few times in a career and it may not be a coincidence. Still, Kirkland may spark him.

You guys are lucky to see Morales, I wish him the best and hope he pulls an unlikely victory. Read about Kirkland, think in the Ring magazine and he looks like a very good fighter

I wouldn't say I was a big fan, but I wish Kirkland well, after getting stopped by the Jap he came back to take care of business against "Perro". I like it when pugs come back from adversity, it'll be interesting to see how he does against Molina saturday night.
As for Morales, I hope Danny Garcia kicks his ass.
-
Prediction: Garcia and Molina win the fights, close but clear. And the Texas judges award the wins to Morales and Kirkland.

I'm with you on that, mostly because I was a huge Barrera fan and I don't think you can really like both.

Gawd I hope not shaz, we've had enough bad decisions here in Texas lately, maybe they'll get it right this time.

Re: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia Saturday night fight thread
Erik has already lost his title by failing to make weight. He came a clear 2 lbs over so I dont think he had any intention of making it and didnt try to lose it either.
Garcia reminds me of Malignaggi. Just annoying and deserving of a beating. Not sure Erik gives it him but he has the weight advantage now and has tried to do what Castillo did vs Corrales the 2nd time and sacrificed money for a better shot at winning. Speaking of Castillo he was up to his old tricks again. He came in over against Cottos brother who he should fight on the undercard. He came back later to see if he had lost any weight and he weighed even more so team Cotto have pulled outand now there is no fight. The Peurto Ricans must think that the Mexicans are cheaters with both guys not trying to make wieght and then theres Salido vs Lopez and the Ped rumours and Marg vs Cotto and his dodgy wraps. Doesnt look good but Garcia is the type of guy you want to see get beaten

Garcia does kind of remind me of a latino version of Malignaggi, lmao, and his team are a bunch of out of control assholes. I will say this, compared to Morales, Garcia looks ripped, Morales does not look like he's in shape. Just guessing i'd say Morales takes a beating in this one.

Yeah Malignaggi is the guy he reminds me of. The same kind of slimey retrosexual demenour. Had Erik tried to make the weight Id agree that he would be in for a beating but they asked why he didnt bother trying to lose it and he said it would weaken him and he is going for the win. It might lack professionalism but I think he did the right thing by saving his energy for the fight instead oftrying to cut weight. He said in the 3rd Pac fight he would be fined 500,000 dollars for each pound he came in over so he had to cut weight whereas here he only had a fine of 25 k for each pound so he took the 50 k fine and decided to try and win instead. I think he has been hanging out with Castillo for too long as theres no reason why a former bantam shouldnt be able to make light welter. His body looked fleshy as if he could have lost weight if he wanted. He obvioulsy wasnt proud of his conditioning cuz he put his top back on very quickly for the pictures.

Morales does not need to be ripped to beat this puppy Garcia, Morales will hand him a
top draw boxing lesson tonight , mark my words ;D

Re: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia Saturday night fight thread
is morales not obligated to try to lose the extra 2 lbs?
garcia should jab and move all night long. don't get into exchanges. he should use his fitness to run circles around the lazy slug. make morales chase him all night and potshot from the outside. morales has no footwork anymore...had little to begin with.
should be an easy night for garcia, should he fight the right fight.

Lazy slug, your talking about a fucking legend .
-
Re: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia Saturday night fight thread
Morales looks no different to how he did in the Maidana and Cano fights. He looks loose skinned around the middle in those fights too. Didnt stop him doing real good. The fact Garcia is ripped dont mean shit. This fight is all about what Morales can and cant do anymore imo. The skill sets are not comparable.

Lazy slug, your talking about a fucking legend .
a fucking legend who couldn't be bothered to train for the fight.
a fucking legend that's showing his lack of respect for his opponent, himself and the sport.
lazy slug!

it's YOU'RE a dick. (you are, not your)
you're not too smart.

Re: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia Saturday night fight thread
YOU'RE boxing knowledge is not to clever if you are slagging of
a boxing legend like morales, ok he is 2lb overweight big deal ,
he has paid that price by being stripped of his title , and a big fine,
how can you call this man lazy , he has drained his body all his career
to fight the very best available, he is hardly going to do a Chavez Jr
and come in 20lb heavier than his opponent is he , You're still a dick.
-

nope. you missed that one again. its your boxing knowledge. (because you're(you are) addressing something i posses--my boxing knowledge)
as for morales... he was a great champion. he is currently a disgraced former champion who just got stripped of his title for being a lazy slug.

RDL, not that i'm necessarily agreeing with Ruthless, but I don't see Morales as a "legend" his main claim to fame was winning a close decision over Pacquiao who proceeded to knock Erik out in the next 2 of the 3 fights they had. Morales also lost twice to his other major rival MAB, so I really have an issue with Erik being called a "legend". Erik is a very good fighter, but a legend needs to be an all-time great, and Morales doesn't qualify. It ain't no thing dude, just saying..
cheers

Re: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia Saturday night fight thread
Well just to be an ass and throw a spanner in the works.
I think he is a legend, but not an all time great. ;)

Re: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia Saturday night fight thread
Alright homies, the undercard starts in about 15 minutes, man your brews, i'm having a couple shot of Crown Royal Black tonight.
