England Squad for Euro 2012
Right we have this competition every time there is a big tournament and by next Friday I have to submit my entry.
Basically you have to predict the 23 players that will go to Euros (and this year the manager too !) and the one with the most right wins the pot (£2 per entry wo will be about £50 in total)
My heart wants to rule my head - I don't want Ferdinand, Terry or Lampard to go (and Cole but thats juist because I hate him) so don't want to put them in my list. But I can't see him leaving them all out. I did have Gerrard on that list too but have changed my mind and reckon he should go.
I also think Scholes should go !
Anyone care to share their thoughts ?
eg what about Oxlade-Chamberlain or whatever his name is ? Cleverley, Wellbeck, Sturridge etc....
Really think this is the toughest its ever been to predict - and after 2010 I am all for the youngsters giving it their all and losing than the egos fucking moaning and still doing shit.

Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
What your side should look like...
ST: Rooney
LW: Young CF: OX or Milner RW: Sturridge (would play more ST as the back & CM would rotate out to the right to whip in crosses)
CM: Gerrard, Parker or Barry
LB: Cole CB: Cahill, Jones RB: Johnson/Richards
GK: Hart
Skill, speed, youth...those win you matches!

Glen would better serve club and country at righ midfield in my opinion...shame he'll never be moved though, Liverpool would look loads better with his width and skill in attack and Martin Kelly working behind him as well.
Micah Richards is just having a hell of a season though
Walcott and the Ox have worked their way in and Sturridge is quality...he's being played out of position and he's still quality and I HATE Chelsea, but he and Mata are their only shining spots

Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
GKs Hart Ruddy Carson
DEF Richards Baines Ferdinand, Smalling, Jones, Jagielka, Lescott
MID Parker, Carrick, Milner, Barry, Cleverley, Wilshire, Walcott, Young, A Johnson,
ST Rooney, Welbeck, Sturridge.
im one short yet
-
Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
Yeah, Baines probably does deserve the starting LB spot. Lescott?!?!?! The fuck??? Smalling!?!?! Sheesh...good luck winning anything with them two on the pitch.
Gerrard should be captain and start....Cleverly & Wilshire have been injured. Carrick is old as shit, and Parker & Barry aren't as good going forward.
-
Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
Appreciate the input - why don't you all have a go ?!?
I hadn't included Defoe or Lennon but if Redknapp is in charge then they will go. And maybe King too ?!?
I can't see Harry taking it before euros though
-
Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
Strikers: Rooney, Bent, Sturridge, Walcott
MID: Gerrard, Parker, Barry, Young, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlin, Wilshire, A. Johnson
Fullbacks: Baines, Cole, Johnson, Richards, Cahill, Jones, Ferdinand, King
GK: Hart, Green, Carson
That's what I'd put out and if Wilshire isn't healthy enough to give 100% then perhaps you bring in someone else maybe Rodwell.

Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
isnt Bent out injured for couple of months ?
-
Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
Does England have 23 players worth taking to the Euros?
-
Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
Not to put to fine a point on it. This thread is about football, the England squad and the Euro's. Quite why Lyle or Killersheep feel the need to contribute is beyond me. It turns my stomach, sticks in my teeth and frankly infuriates me. It is like having a family argument only for the neighbours to wander in and start chipping in with their two penny's worth. Seriously boys, fuck off. You could put your combined knowledge of the subject in hand, on the back of a postage stamp, and still have room to lick it without touching your words. We are not talking about the Disney High School Girl's soccer tournament, this is serious shit. My 23 would be as follows
GK's
Gordon Banks
Ron Springett
Peter Bonetti
DF's
Norman Hunter
Ron Flowers
Gerry Byrne
Jimmy Armfield
Bobby Moore (Captain)
Jack Charlton
Ray Wilson
George Cohen
MF's
George Eastham
Ian Callaghan
Martin Peters
Bobby Charlton
Alan Ball
Nobby Stiles
FW's
Roger Hunt
Terry Paine
John Connelly
Geoff Hurst
Jimmy Greaves
Oh hang on that's only 22. Better take the young lad Rooney as well then.

He's out for the season with an ankle injury, he's very unlikely to be fit in time for the Euros. Even if he is, his position in the squad wasn't guaranteed anyway so I doubt he'll be selected having been out for 3 months.
I think the squad will look something like this:
GK: Hart, Foster, Carson.
DEF: Johnson, Richards, Ferdinand, Cahill, Jones, Lescott, Cole, Baines.
MID: Parker, Gerrard, Lampard, Wilshere (if he's fit in time), Milner, Walcott, Johnson, Young.
ST: Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck, Defoe
Personally I'd take Smalling over Jones, Walker over Jonhson, probably Carrick or someone shite over Lampard, Oxlade-Chamberlain instead of Johnson, and someone else instead of Defoe. I'm struggling there though, I can't really think of anyone who's played well enough to warrant it this season, and Bent is injured so he's out. Maybe Grant Holt. He's probably been one of the better performing English strikers this season. That's a bit grim though.
I'm not sure about Terry either. I think whoever is in charge will probably want to take him, but it seems pointless to take the captaincy off him while he has the court case hanging over him if the FA are then going to allow him to be picked in the squad for the Euros anyway. If he does go it'd probably be in place of Lescott.
EDIT: Sod it, I've decided that if I was picking the squad I'd take Cattermole instead of Lampard. And Campbell instead of Defoe. And Wes Brown instead of every other defender. I also think Pearce might be in charge for the Euros, I can't see Redknapp walking straight into the job at the end of the season. I think he'll agree to take over after the tournament.
-
Pearce will give some young ones a chance if he gets it. I hope he does.
Youth have no expectation.
Look at the 6 nations. Young side, did ok, but didn't get hammered in press because they were young.

Will it really matter in the end? :-X

Think Peter Crouch on current form could merit a look?

Crouch offes more than some other strikers in the last squad for sure. His record for England is second to none for goals to games. I would always have a fit Crouch in the squad.

He's a solid 70 min sub if nothing else! All you have to do is win corners and he's golden

The goal he scored against City at the weekend was pretty special too, great touch for a big man!

Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
The strikers really concern me for this tournament. I expect Rooney and Sturridge to be definites as long as neither gets injured between now and the end of the season. I think Welbeck should take one of the other spots, although his form has been a bit patchy of late. Assuming Bent is injured, then that only really leaves you with either Defoe or Crouch as a realistic option for the 4th striker. Personally I'd take Crouch over Defoe, purely because he's different to anything else we really have. It's slim pickings really though.
I just hope that Carroll starts looking like the player he was at Newcastle again. If we could take that version of Carroll along with Rooney, Welbeck and Sturridge I'd be much happier.
In my ideal world we'd line up against France like this:
Hart
Richards - Ferdinand - Smalling - Cole
Wilshere - Parker
Walcott - Gerrard - Oxlade-Chamberlain
Welbeck
And then when Rooney is back you can swap him for Welbeck.
-
Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
Hart
Johnson Lescott Rio Cole
Barry Gerrard Parker Milner Johnson
Defoe
Rooney
We are screwed!!!!:(

Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
Fuck the squad thats always a no brainer give or take a few player.. we need to appoint a manager asap.
60 odd days till the Euros and no one knows whats going on
Harrys the only man for the job but will he take it..?
Theres talk of Slavan Bilic coming to Spurs (FUCK THAT).
If Harry doesn't take it i reckon they'll stick with Stuart Pearce and i'd be happy with that but it needs sorting and fast.
Ticket sales have been shit and only 50% of the allocated 7000 have been sold. A combination of shit game times (mostly weekdays) and average hotel prices £250 per person per night :o

Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
true
i have no fucking idea what is going on. Typical FA. Are they going to wait till season finishes mid May and then appoint with just 3 eeks to go to tournament ?!?
Its madness. I dont think Harry will take it before Euros. As I've said regardless of the expectation, and giving him some slack, if it's a complete disaster it could undermine his future in the job from the outset.
Peacre isn't experienced enough to take us on his own. I would appoint Hoddle on a tournament only basis if it were me.
Of course if we then win it the FA will have the headache of whether to give it Hoddle full time ;DBut at the end of the day that's a good headache to have and I'd take it.
My expectation is zero but if I see Lampard playing alongside fucking gGrrard on the first fucking starting 11 against France I will switch tv off and go have a massive wank instead. Fact

Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
Harry will get appointed at the end of the season as they do not want Spurs season to be affected by the speculation. Oh wait that is happening already.
-
Re: England Squad for Euro 2012
Spot on. We've been shit since all this speculation came about. Well clear of Arsenal and Chelsea then we had shocking 6 week spell and are now behind the enemy. The Spurs players are definitely affected by all this.
It's pretty cool that we have no expectation at all to do well at the Euros, We got a tough group as well.
Group B is gonna throw up some cracking games.
