Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
Linares return bout tonight on the GBP Fox Deportes card in a WBC eliminator from Cancun Mexico vs one 21-2 (19) Sergio Thompson. I'm really looking forward to the rematch with Antonio Demarco in July and hope he can get some work in here. Do not know a thing about Martinez other than he has faced a room full of .500 fighters and lost to undefeated Alisher Thompson of Russia. He has never fought outside of Mexico. It's all the action I'm getting tonight, cough, so thought I'd put it out there. Main event kicks off in about 30 minutes.
Um...they are doing a 'fire dance' in the ring with trapeze artist in skin suits. No points off for imagination, minus the two dudes :-X

Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
Scratch that :p Linares is facing Yeyo ?
Marco A Periban 15-0 (10) vs Gerardo Diaz 12-1-1 (10) middles next up
-
Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
The favorite Periban comes out very poised and shooting combos in first only to get dropped hard by counter right hand mid round 1. Diaz swings wild and looks like Brian Vera with wiiiiiiiiide sloppy hook-slaps at rounds end.
Better start and Marco finds himself in 2nd to regain control and hurts Diaz to body and lands solid uppercuts at near the end of round....??? Diaz corner man just ran across the ring and pulls Diaz away, fight over. Ref does absolutely nothing...wonder if he'll be dq'd ???
-
Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
Nope. Its ruled a tko by "ref stoppage" at 2:52 of 2nd round though he made zero indication and didn't see cornerman until he came into corner and stepped between them....you just cannot make this stuff up. So much for strict rule enforcement

Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
Eduardo Canales 13-1 (7) vs Jorge Romero 20-5 (17) welters next up
on a side note...there is one Corona girl that has to be seen to believe! Just take my word for it
-
Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
Romero steady and calm picking shots and Canales is flailing away like his life depended on it in scrappy 1st round. Romero looks much bigger and investing hard in bodywork in 2nd.
-
Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
You can see how Romero has lost five as there is no head movement and as stiff as a board but mixes punches well...Canales is a human pinata right now but still coming and landing, tough chin and legs are starting to become wider and wider early in 3rd
-
Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
Canales is a man possessed end of 3rd round as Romero is backed to corner and hit clean a few but was his last hoorah. End comes early 4th as Romero steady connects with uppercuts and hooks to gut and spent Canales backs and smiles. Ref steps in at 1:11 4th
my God she is smoking!!!!!!

Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
Ok thats a no. Fighters to ring now. Yeyo has some fans....Linares has some douche in skinny jeans rapping for him on way to ring. Alright main event time. My Saddo brothers...you guys are brutal ;D
-
Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
Linares jab on point early. Thompson falls in and backs Linares with right hands to ropes and lands another. Ohhh nice one-two counter gives Thompson jelly legs for a minute and he goes down but ref yells at him to get up, no kd.
As usual very solid hand speed from Linares and Thompson steps behind, slow....Linares is showing blood and minor swell on left eye in corner?!
-
Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
Linares down and badl bloodied!!!!! in 2nd after he gets raked along ropes and WTF:o
-
Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
Well ladies and gentlemen...scratch one rematch. Linares just got busted up suddenly in 2nd, dropped by consecutive right hands and taken to corner to be looked at....time 2:27 sec of round 2. Not totally clear "who" ended that though? Thompson via TKO. Linares couldn't get out of the way. Wow. Upsets make the world of boxing go round and round.
-
Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
Thanks for doing that and letting us know what happened. Sounds like some odd stoppages, but an exciting upset none the less.
-
Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
the blood fairly beats a technician again
-
Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
The ref did Linares a massive favour tonight. He was out on his feet and would have been badly sparked by Thompson so the ref called the doctor in for the dramatic waving off of the fight. Linares has an excuse for losing and get the chance to rebuild his rebuild.
-
What????dam fcuk not an upset I wanted to happen fuck , so linares might be done for good? Or whas whatever his name just that god?

Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
Wow, just finished watching this fight. Damn. After the DeMarco fight and how mashed Linares eyes were, he needed more time off for healing IMO and also needed a couple of gimme fights. Hes still a quality fighter and will be back for sure.
Main thing for Linares is he needs to learn how to defend himself properly. Shit. hitting him seems so easy, like he just like to get hit and leaves his face right out there. Thompson landed almost at will I thought. He needs to work with someone more defensive minded IMO.

Thats one thing that stuck out, he couldn't be missed with rights and looked almost in a way gun shy or very conscious of that right eye. He had these exaggerated pull backs and turning of the head. I don't know how legit a puncher Yeyo is but when he landed those couple of ok'ish barrages Linares just totally unraveled. His legs were spotty.
Its what stuck going into rematch with Demarco. I kept thinking 'what' can he do better than he already had. He had the combos, hand speed, mobility but right hands have built in GPS on him and Demarco is a slicing type with pop. I really am not sure he'll rebound here. Hope so but man talk about psychological erosion let alone eye issues.

Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
That was a bullshit stoppage. Linares just walked away in disgust. Like he was expecting to get screwed. Linares looked good in the first. But it looks now like his skin is to thin. He bleeds pretty damn easily now a days

yup, has JCC syndrome, but he also should take some of the blame, his defense looks horrid, and it's a shame because he's one of the more complete fighters out there apart from his defense
-
Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
At least when Linares got beaten up badly by Antonio DeMarco, he lost to a pretty good fighter. Although Sergio Thompson has a great KO ratio, he's far from being world class.
I thought the stoppage was a little quick, and really didn't understand it. (not that Linares was going to win the fight anyway)
If you just wanna see the KD and the stoppage, scroll forward in this video to about the 6:00 minute mark:

Re: Jorge Linares vs. Sergio Thompson on FOX
I am surprised Linares took this fight, his cuts needed time to heal. This reminds me of Eubanks fighting too soon against Carl Thompson for their rematch as his eye had not had enough time to recover from the swelling. It led to the only time he was ever stopped.

It's been 5 1/2 months since the DeMarco fight, the cuts/swelling should have been totally healed by the time he stepped in the ring against Thompson. From what I could tell, mentally and physically he looked nothing like the Linares we saw before the DeMarco fight. Sergio Thompson was suppose to be a relatively easy comeback fight, only someone forgot to tell Sergio.
At this point you've gotta wonder if Linares will ever be able to turn his career around and/or compete at the championship level again, right now it doesn't look like it.

Damn over 5 months already! Remember Linares coming up and becoming a champion, think against Medina, he looked awesome with a very bright future. Look how sad things have turned out.

It's it's a bit of a shock actually, before the DeMarco fight everyone thought Linares was the next big thing.

Thompson ain't getting a shot at DeMarco

I think Lundy or Molina are DeMarco's best options, would love to see him fight Vasquez.
