James Toney weighs in at 248
I guess I am realizing that Toney just doesn't care enough anymore. 248 is just an insult to anyone who is paying to watch him fight. There is just no excuse for it. He can make 200 for his last fight then at least come in at 225 for this one. I am disappointed with him. I think he will beat Gunn easily, but he is going to look horrid and I can see it going the distance.
Oh well. I guess Toney has no intention of trying to dazzle and bring on a bigger fight. Maybe he realises this is his lot. 248. The man is tiny. What kind of working out has he been doing to weigh this much?

Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
I dont think Tony should be alloud to fight at that weight. Pro boxing needs to put rules in place to stop guys who are 5/10 fighting at 248 pounds... It just turns the sport into a laughing stock.

Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
It is hard for me to say James Toney is lazy: you can't develope the type of skills he has and be lazy. So I've decided he is either mentally ill or stupid.
-
Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
I don't know why he bothers.....hes a disgrace to the sport
Job Biscuit (Hope he losses)!!!
eh eh!!!

Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
It's shocking isn't it. He weighed something like this against that other bum and then decided he was 'rededicating' himself. Lebedev flop at 200 and now back to the beached whale look.
It's almost like Toney is trying to alienate even his diehard followers. Get in shape you fat fuck. I shouldn't say that, he will be calling me out next.

Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
Maybe Toneys defense wasn't all that great after all. Clearly he's taken some permanent hurt to think his fans still give two shits.
-
Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
Toney does not care about getting in shape, why should you care if he wins? He is long past it his boxing skill can only take you so far.

Actually what Toney is doing is picking up a few final paydays, he can probably still pick up a couple $100,000 for his shit fights, like the one against Lebedev, et al.
I mean when you think about it, WTF is James going to do after boxing, he slurs his words too bad to do announcing and becoming rocket scientist is out of the question. :scratchchin:

Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
I've ALWAYS severely disliked James Toney, and every pound he puts on just reinforces the dislike.
-
Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
Toney is the kind of fighter that thinks "old school" fighters only sparred and that it's all he needs to mess with. So any weight he gained while he was injured he just kept it on and said "ah ill just spar this training camp" and that's all he did, he sparred and he lost no weight. The funny thing is he lost all that weight because he was anticipating an MMA fight with Ken Shamrock and he decided to keep it that way cause he felt good when he signed the fight. But now coming off injury it appears he is back to the same "all i need to do is spar" routine for boxing. Seems he takes MMA more serious than Boxing nowadays, isn't that amazing?

Didn't Toney lose his MMA debut?
-
Yes he lost in MMA...it was abit more embarrising than his final presents in the boxing ring
job biscuit (2 ton Toney)!!!
eh eh!!!

Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
It's such a shame to see Tony keep on fighting. He was so damn good.
-
Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
Fuck me! How does he manage to put on that much weight in just a few months! Its like hes purposefully tried to get fat!
I dissagree about him still winning. He hasnt got a big punch and will tire very early. He couldnt hurt Damon Reed that a cruiser Herbie Hide splattered in a round. Its going to be utter shite! Even if you are a greedy cunt, while in training you shouldnt get that fat so I have a hard time believing hes done any at all!
-
Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
It's a shame really.
I don't understand what sort of training he does and what his diet is to hold on to all that weight.
-
Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
i'll never understand why people hate on james toney.
he's so awesome! he had a great career. was an extremely gifted fighter. he's funny as hell!
who cares if he likes to be fat. who cares if he fights bums til he decides to retire.
why does everyone get so angry about him choosing to live his life this way. i don't get it.

Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
You know your in a bad way when the "IBA" distances itself from a multi time champion and sure fire hall of famer calling out to represent your POS trinket ???

Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
Toney's the laughing stock of boxing. He should have NEVER ventured into heavyweight. He looks like a beached whale, and is an insult to those that consider boxing a sport. Not only that. I cringe whenever he opens his mouth. Thank God his speech is badly slurred. Otherwise there's no telling the shit that would come out of his mouth. What little CAN be understood makes no sense at all.

James Toney Stops Bobby Gunn In Five Rounds - Boxing News
A bit ironic that the bare knuckle champ lost due to a broken hand ;D

Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
I used to be a Toney fan years ago, but lost all respect for him after the second time he was tested positive for banned substances.
I agree with Tito Fan, he should have never moved up to Heavyweight and would have ruled the Crusierweight division for years.
-
Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
Well, he got the win. Stay busy James, another fight in 2 months and 20 pounds lighter please.
-
Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
Forget his weight, the fact that Toney has been OFFICIALLY diagnosed with brain damage, is 44 and STILL allowed to fight makes boxing a laughing stock.
Toney's pineal gland is damaged, which limits the amount of testosterone secreted. That is one of the reasons he probably finds it hard to lose body fat.
-
Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
congrats champ!!!! keep up the good work.
-
Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
Just watch interviews with Toney over the last few years and it is clear he has brain damage already.
Needs to call it a day now to save what brain cells he has left.
-
Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
He should stop now. Wonderful career, incredible rough talent but at 44 with some brain damage diagnosticated, it's more than time to call it a career and to stop before the punch that'll be too late.

Allright Don King;D
Its diagnosed!;)

Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
People that went to the fight have said that this guy Toney fought barely even fought. Terrible if true, all people are gonna look at it as false hope. Fact of the matter is Toney takes MMA more serious than boxing nowadays, that's saddening. He dropped to 200 pounds in anticipation of fighting Ken Shamrock in an MMA bout. Gets a boxing match and stays within the weight range. And then in preperation for his next boxing match..he gains nearly 50 pounds. ..

AND.... he's only 43.

Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
Outrageous weight gain, 50 lbs in 5 months, but on the bright side Toney did stop the guy in 5 albeit cus Gunn broke his hand.
I thought this Gunn character would bring it to Toney from his background and tough talk before the fight.
Now Toney can fight Sherman "The Tank" Williams, not in a boxing match but in a hot dog eating contest.

Yeah, they can come and do it in Guernsey! I have a Hot Dog Cart!

Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
I do not understand the people that have said that fighting at Heavyweight was a farce or a huge mistake for Toney.
Toney was extremely competitive against Sam Peter (In fact I thought he beat him) and several other fights. Anyone else that is that competitive at HW would be considered a hopeful still.
The only mistake is that Toney has held on to the only thing he has known in his life for too long, which is boxing. If we all disliked boxers who held on for too long, we wouldn't have very many to look up to.

I disagree, it's easy to put a lot of time into the things you enjoy/have a natural aptitude at.
Lazy is what Toney is. He enjoys sparing, hates road work and dieting

Absolutely. I knew there had to be a reason for the slurring. And although I've always disliked Toney intensely, it's totally irresponsible of boxing to allow this man to continue fighting and making a mockery out of the sport (not to mention continue to endanger himself). Somebody take his damn license away already.
-
Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
I don't think he'd be boxing if he had enough money to retire. I'm guessing there's no chance of that happening either and that he'll keep boxing until he can't even get licensed in Texas. This is just a sad story when you look back to what was.

he supposedly didn't do much roadwork throughout alot of his career. He supposedly has always eaten everything in sight.
undisciplined is definitely correct.

Re: James Toney weighs in at 248
It's sad, isn't it? These boxers are given all this money to beat the crap out of each other in the ring, but they're never given the knowledge on how to maintain their finances. That's what ends up getting the lot of them. That's one of the things I always liked about Marciano. He held onto his money, and had enough to live the rest of his life very comfortably.

It seems Toney owes a lot. Considering what he has earned over the years, he kind of deserves what he gets. That is a really cruel thing to say though. People need to be responsible for themselves and Toney seems to have fucked up.
