Was going to say top 10 but I thought that might be a bit tough for some people.
Take the term greatest any way you want.

Re: The top 3 greatest British boxers of all time???
I haven't seen much of Jimmy Wilde, but you have to figure the greatest British fighter in recent memory is Lennox by a good stretch. Aside from being very skilled for how big he was, no other Brit even comes close in terms of stature or accomplishments. He was a dominant heavyweight champion of the world when that still meant a lot to average sports fans, he is the only household name who could conceivably be on this list. As for the silver and bronze I'd say probably Calzaghe and then Eubank myself. If you wanted to just say best on a given night, scrap accomplishments and base it on peak form sort of thing; Naseem Hamed, Lloyd Honeyghan, Ken Buchanan and Herol Graham could've easily been just as good as anyone imo.
-
Nigel Benn
Charlie Magri
Kevin Mitchell
I still think Lewis came along at the right time. Just my opinion so don't shoot me down.
-
For modern era...
1. Calzaghe
2. Lewis
3. Tough call between Hatton, Hamed, Eubank, Benn

Re: The top 3 greatest British boxers of all time???
Jhon Murray has to be number one. He is the British boxer with the most undefeated fights. He was cheated by Mitchell and Rios. They didnt play fair. The other guys he fought were amasing opponents and he destroyed them all. What a fighter.

I cant tell if you are being ironic what with your wit being as sharp as a spoon and all that, but actually Rios coming in way over weight was clearly unfair.

About time somebody mentioned Audley in their top three. Although when it comes to British boxers I'm not going to argue with Scrap.

How about being born here, learning how to talk and walk here, spending the first 12 years of his life here then choosing to return and fight here as a professional?

No I am a much bigger fan of Mitchell and Burns, but give the guy a break, he is a pretty weak example of a protected fighter. Murray unlike Rios has cajones and the dignity and proffesionalism to weigh in at the contracted weight.

Cant argue with that. He did do well against Rios. Shame he didnt grow some balls earlier and fight someone of note before he got to his 30th fight. That is the reason im not a fan. He bored me to death before he went against real opponents. The worst one for me was when thaxton lost to a journeyman and he still got a fight against Murray who had 25 fights undefeated at the time. What a joke.

I do like Kevin Mitchell but he done pretty much the same as Murray. A lot of fights against not many good people. I tell you who I am proud of. George groves. only 14 fights and going for a world number 4. He may be going for this a little early. I would have given him around 20 fights before this fight but at least we have a fighter with guts. We need another Froch these days.

This is my reason Calzaghe first he beat ever one he faced, undefeated champion only one we have
had weather you like it or not its a fact.
Buchanan the master boxer a true example of a very gifted fighter, the great Duran did not fancy facing him a second time.
Turpin going over the pond and beating the Man the great Sugar Ray, what a feat,I had to think
long and hard for my top 3.We have produced many great fighters this 3 is just my personal pref rans,
and I hope we produce many more great fighters in the future.;)

I apologize, but while it is true that the thread and first page were from 5 years ago the four pages after that were from March this year. I can't narrow it down to three, sorry I am no good at these things.
