Who are your favourite bands of the '90's?
For me, my teenage years were extraordinary. I was living in a time when music seemed exciting and where guitar pop was becoming mainstream and I was also aware enough to start delving into music history. I had a whale of a time buying albums and exploring literature. This thread is for those '90's bands. Which are your favourites and do you have particular albums that you enjoy.
For me it was all about Pulp, Suede, Oasis, and to a lesser extent Blur, Sleeper, The Longpigs and James. I am sure there are loads of other bands, but I have neglected them in my elderly state.

Belle and Sebastian. They were so good at the time with all their EP's too. I am talking 90's, they haven't been nearly as good this decade.

I got all nostalgic seeing these recent Pulp performances.

A sad fact is that my secondary school nickname was Jarvis. I used to think that it was annoying. It used to really bug me. Now I just think it was kind of alright and distinctive. Much better than being called 'Chubby' or 'Loopy'. To be nicknamed after a tall, distinctive articulate man is better than most nicknames.

Nobody calls me Jarv anymore. I kind of miss it as at least Caucasian people get it somewhat right. I do at least have the proportions. I had a student suggest I look like Keanu Reeves the other week. I looked at him with pity. I look nothing like Keanu Reeves. He must look like Jackie Chan.

Re: Who are your favourite bands of the '90's?
Suede, The Wonderstuff, Pearl Jam, Nirvana. I also listened to Donovan quite a lot in the 90's.

How could I forget The Sultans of Ping FC
Genius, as always sprinkled with lunacy.

Re: Who are your favourite bands of the '90's?
About 85% of the music I listen to is from the 90's - Soundgarden, Screaming Tree's, Pearl Jam, etc.. but what makes me laugh is I remember in the 90's when I thought all those 30/40 year-old blokes that clung on to 70's rock were complete saddos. I'm now them. And clearly so are some of you. ;D

Re: Who are your favourite bands of the '90's?
Well, assuming this thread is only after rock and roll bands, I'm not sure why the 90's is always lauded as such a great era. Obviously Britpop and Grunge were huge but neither was actually anything new musically, it just hadn't reached mainstream beforehand. Suede, Blur etc are good bands that have a few real tunes. The Smiths, Jesus and Mary chain, Joy Division are much better imo. Think about what bands you had emerge in the 80's, in comparison.
The Smiths, The Police, Dire Straits, Joy Division, R.E.M, Pixies, Sonic youth, Jesus and Mary chain, Talking heads, Yes, Tom Petty, Dinosaur Jr, and so many more. I don't think there is a 90's lineup imaginable that rivals those bands/artists myself. And I agree with Lyle 100% that Oasis is crap.

I should really have said Brit pop in the thread title. If we are to include American bands then there was a lot of good stuff too. Smashing Pumpkins for instance were producing excellent work. I used the 90's as those were my teenage years.
Every decade has its truly exceptional music.

Not so!
Matt and Luke Goss were so good looking in their pomp that a guy could bum either one of them without actually being gay.

Jodeci was definitely a band but Blackstreet was more of a collection of talented singers. Devonte was a multi instrumentalist and I think his brother wrote the songs and K Ci and JoJo were the voices

During the 90's my favourite band was probably some lame like E17.
Now, my favourite band of the 90's is probably Radiohead.
