Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Anyone got any thoughts on this fight for the WBA Welter strap?
Senchenko 32-0, Malignaggi 30-4
Its taking place in Ukraine and Senchenko is a 35 year old protected unbeaten Ukrainian. Never fights outside of Ukraine and the biggest name on his record is Nuzhnenko who Matthew Hatton beat.
I dont hesitate to say, this is as big a candidate for a hometown decision as you're likely to be able to anticipate. I predict Paulie will pickpocket and jab his way to a Pts decision in all but the judges eyes. Senchenko by UR or SR (unanimous robbery / split robbery). I hope I am wrong though.
And for the UK fans out there, Boxnation picked it up and its on Sunday evening.

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
I agree. I hope Paulie come back home with the title.
Just thinking about the 147lb division, if Paulie can bring home the title and Robert Guerrero beat Selcuk Aydin for the WBC. Not to mention Bradley beating Pacman for the WBO. There will be not face recognition or money to be made in that division by the time Mayweather gets out of jail. Floyd did the right thing by moving up in weight.

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
I think Paulie will get a fair shake over there. I've seen a few Ukrainian fight cards and I haven't seen any bad decisions to visiting fighters. The one and only robbery (if you want to call it that) was when Ukrainian Stanyslav Kashtanov fought Karoly Balzsay...most people thought Kashtanov beat Balzsay but the judges saw it differently.
Freddie Roach trains Kashtanov and here's what he said:
Quote:
"I think Senchenko's boxing ability will enable him to out-score Paulie to win a decision. Paulie is very game. He'll bring the fight and make it exciting. Going to the Ukraine is not like going into hostile territory. The promoter (Yuri Ruban, Union Boxing) over there is very fair. One time I had a fighter from there - I thought he won - but he lost a decision at home. There will be neutral judges and the winner will be the real winner."

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Interesting Tigerfan. I only hope Paulie can win the majority of rounds and then we can put the fair shake theory to the test
-
Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Love to surer Paulie win this, but I think Senchenko will be better
-
Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
I used to hate Paulie Malinaggi the most of any fighter, but he slowly won me over with his amazing displays of courage in the Cotto and Hatton fights.
He's a slick boxer and a tough guido juice head ;D
Last time I saw him he looked pretty good but not great against B side Cotto.
Never seen this Senchenko guy, GO PAULIE !

One thing with Malinaggi he's not scared of any one, fair play to him I hope he comes from there
a winner but it maybe to much of a ask.;D

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
This will be on Box Nation tomorrow.

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
find it rather doubtful that Paulie M. can win.
Paulie doesn't KO people. And winning a decision in the Ukraine. He better box this guy's ears off in every round. And he still probably won't get a decision.

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Senchenko looks big as hell compared to Paulie. According to boxrec...Senchenko is only an inch and a half taller :-X Maybe it's just the camera angle. I heard he's closer to 6 feet tall.

I don't think he's gonna have time to do this ;D

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Yeah I think Malignaggi's got his hands full!
Malignaggi has experience at world level but Senchenko is a unknown commodity. My general feeling here is that Senchenko is simply bigger & better!

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
The height difference is some 4 inches there. Unless Senchenko is on higher ground or something of course.
How can you tweet during rounds? You cant have a phone whilst fighting!

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Paulie in the ring now...Senchenko walking in next.

Good for Paulie. He's a two division champ now. Who would have thought?
-
I'm happy he won...the guy is good for boxing...great character and heart
job biscuit (1hr 53pb)!!!
eh eh!!!

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Battered him. A Paulie stoppage is a rare thing of beauty.
Brook and Hearn must be licking their lips
-
Defo licking their lips lol cos they know brook is better and paulie would struggle with the wierd lazer beam shots brook throws

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Amazing !
Good for Paulie. Never heard of this Senchenko guy, but he had a damn good record and somehow feather fisted Malinaggi stopped him.
Welterweight is pretty weak outside of the top 2 or 4 guys, Floyd, Pac, Berto, Ortiz, then you got Mike Jones and Joshua Clottey ?
Its possible to see Malinaggi sneaking into the #9 or #10 spot of the division now I suppose with this win.
He can't touch the top 5, but a possible fight with Randall Bailey could be fun to watch depending on if Bailey can pull the upset against Mike Jones.

good win for Paulie. Paulie can compete at 147 with lower top 10 guys and fringe guys but won't beat top 5 guys. Which is very similar to him at 140.

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Well done Paulie he boxed Senchenko's head off, he got a good pay day and he won a master class in
boxing.Senchenko's corner men were shocking clueless he was well behind on point's, not saying he would have won but bad work in the corner.
It was a really good performances by Paulie he schooled him, what next for Paulie Brook may be.!:)

people said Brook, which isn't likely to happen. Elsewhere it has been suggested Alexander.
I think Paulie is going to look for a softer opponent than either of those guys. NJ nets have moved to Brooklyn. a new joint is opening up this fall and I think Paulie is going to want to have a homecoming fight there. And I don't think the odds are that high that he faces someone as tough as Brook or Alexander.

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Paulie won by stoppage:o:confused: I'll have to check this out. Isn't he with Golden boy now as well? I'd imagine that they will give him a relatively soft defense or two as well, good for him I like Malignaggi.

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Its cut and eye damage stoppage btw for anyone wondering who hasnt seen it. The dudes eye swelled up to shutting after getting peppered a lot

I know, ive watched a lot of paulies fights growing up as a teenager and i always thought he was a good fighter, very exciting to watch and a good boxer, its good to see him putting in a performance like that. I think he could get involved with some of the top fighters at 147, he seems pretty established at 147 and i hope he can get matched well in the states now, he deserves it after this performance.

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Damn, I had Paulie on points to win about a tenner. It was giong that way till the guys eye swelled up. However it was a good fight and a breath of fresh air after the monstrosity of a fight between Bhop and Dawson. The stoppage didnt suprise me as Paulie is hitting harder now he has moved up a weight. He moves from the body to the head all the time. Quick jabs and good combinations. Nice to watch and looking foward to his next fight. Senchenko showed heart and looked a good fighter but he is just another protected fighter who has been thrown a bunch of losers and didnt learn anything. Young fighters need to step up earlier and challenge themselves more. Everone is saying Kell vs Malignaggi. Kell like Senchenko will need to be careful as he has also been fed a bunch of weak fighters.
I think Kell would win because he looks good but you just dont know untill he fights a top opponent like Malignaggi. Who is pretty much the gate keeper to the top ten in the welterweight devision.

Because he holds a belt now, he'll probably be able to land a big money fight in Brooklyn against someone like Zab Judah.

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Anybody know the scores at the time of the stoppage? I had Paulie way ahead...curious to see how the judges had it.
I wonder who Paulie gets next?
-
Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
Great to see Paulie get the win & by ko! I heard he has been working on planting his feet & increasing power, looks like its paying off.
Wouldn't mind seeing him face Guerrero once he deals to Aydin

Senchenko and his promoter took Malignaggi lightly and they got it wrong, Senchenko is your typical
East European fighter comes forward in straight lines throwing straight punches.
I would say he has a very good amateur style, and he could not fa-therm out Paulie's style that side to side movement was to much for him.
Did you see the look on the promter's face when it was going all wrong, Malignaggi was there as canon
fodder he was far from that he gave there man a painful boxing lesson.
Give Paulie a few easy fights he deserves them.:)

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
How come Smoger stopped that fight? Normally if Paulie had punched the other guys's head off, as long as the headless body was still throwing punches Smoger would let the fight continue.
What a result for Paulie. You've got to hand it to him for this. I'm going to watch the whole fight asap.

Love to see paulie v brook now, good step up opponent for brook

Re: Malignaggi v Senchenko this Sunday
I saw the stoppage which was the accumulation of punches damaging the opponents eye. Really pleasantly surprised that Paulie pulled this off. Fighting Zab would be a good fight.
