Does Anybody Actually Mute the Commentary??
I hear this a lot..that some of you "mute" the tv to watch the fight.
Are you serious or is that said in jest? I get it..the commentary is shit more often than not but how can you watch a fight in absolute silence? You cant hear the crowd or the weight of the shots etc. The latter is especially important to me.
Does anybody actually do what they say or just say it in order to sound cool? Just makes no sense to me to kill most of the audio excitement in a match.
Re: Does Anybody Actually Mute the Commentary??
If I'd tried to mute the TV last night... I'd gotten mugged by the 20-some people watching the fight in my house.
:o
Re: Does Anybody Actually Mute the Commentary??
I only watch fights blindfolded and without audio while practicing Zen Buddhism. You get a much better feel for the action that way.
Re: Does Anybody Actually Mute the Commentary??
i mute it if its british.
Re: Does Anybody Actually Mute the Commentary??
No keep it on as i want to hear the crowd but have it a low volume if the commentator is talking crap.
Re: Does Anybody Actually Mute the Commentary??
Only when re-watching a fight to get a fair score card.
Not when it's live.
Re: Does Anybody Actually Mute the Commentary??
I mute the Polish commentary on streams cause it puts me to sleep and the German commentary because I expect goose stepping at any moment. I grow tired of Merchant and Lamply and usually turn them off or rather off and on. Sheridan last night was unbearable. I don't mind the Quebec cards or the Spanish cards be it Mexican, Colombian, Argentina etc and mute it about 50% of the time. I do listen to the Brits commentators a lot and the atmosphere is always great.

Think that's the perfect balance right there..we had a group of 5, put it on low volume so we could still hear the shots and the crowd but we muffled the commentary for the most part through our own discussions.
Good thing too because when we stopped discussing, we had to endure Boxnations puke-worthy commentary..
They were American's who were doing it, but they were riding on Mayweather like some gay obsessed guys.

Is that because the American commentary is so accurate, unbiased ,eloquent and informative, or just because you are xenophobic?
Objection your honour, that is a leading question.
Re: Does Anybody Actually Mute the Commentary??
Just watch the fight the commentary can be funny at times, remember it's just there opinion you don't have to agree. Judge the fight yourself it's part of watching a fight on tv the commentary.;)

Me too, usually only when theres a controversy.
Re: Does Anybody Actually Mute the Commentary??
The only thing that will ever make me turn off the volume is Vevuzelas, or however you spell the name of those gay little horns that those annoying fruitcakes use.
I couldn't watch Khan-Judah because of them. Drove me absolutely NUTS.
Re: Does Anybody Actually Mute the Commentary??
I didn't listen to the commentary because I was at a bar and there was music blaring. I quite enjoyed not listening to the commentary because Lampley can be hystrionic, Merchant is a big Negative Nancy, and whoever the 3rd guy is (Manny, Roy, Tarver, Max, whoever) usually has the idea that their way is the best way so they have an angle there as well.
I like Bernstein, I like Tessitore, and on occasion Teddy Atlas is fun to listen to but he's got his own agenda as well.
The fight was very exciting sans commentary, I had it very close and you could tell both guys gave 100% and it was a solid style match up (as I had predicted). I'm hoping the people that doubted Cotto now come around and give him some respect for his efforts.
Re: Does Anybody Actually Mute the Commentary??
I mute commentary all the time, I prefer silence much of the time, rather than listening to idiotic blither. It depends on who fighting, and which announcers are calling the fights, some I can tolerate, and others just ruin the broadcast, but yeah, the mute button on my TV is my best friend.
Re: Does Anybody Actually Mute the Commentary??
I do mute the commentary quite a bit, too. Half the time when I'm watching the fight live.
But then again, I also mute the TV whenever I have a chance. I think silence is something people should come to appreciate more.
