Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
Sept. 15 is far away that someone can replace Williams and get ready for Saul. But who? Vanes have been #1 contender for the title for the longest. But the WBC has been jerking his chain. Nonetheless, Vanes name might not put cheeks in seats.
Lara?
Molina?
Kirkland?
Angulo?
and my favorite
Cotto?
What yo think?

Lara and Vanes aren't being put in with Canelo right now. Cotto and Kirkland are in the lead, although rumor has it Kirkland won't be back in time for that date.

I don't really give flying fuck who faces him. A man has just become permanently disabled and we care about this? For fucks sake, I find it appalling. Let it rest a little, no?

I heard the same thing about Kirkland. I also heard he want the rematch with Molina. So Cotto should be the obvious choose. More money too. Plus, if he ever want to face Floyd, beating Cotto is the best way. Same goes for Cotto beating Canelo. Easy set up to a rematch with Floyd when he gets out.

There's no need to make a correlation here though:-\ This is a boxing forum and Canelo now needs another opponent for his next fight, albeit tragically. Talking about the best replacement for Williams does nothing to downplay his plight, it now has nothing to do with the man or his accident.

Re: Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
Molina sounds good if only for the fact he deserves a big one after getting screwed. Angulo is still on the Amber alert after getting smashed up by Kirkland. What about eh Rubio??? Sure he can make 154, and Canelo is coming in at middle anyway.

sadly life and boxing goes on.
Saul should fight the opponent Williams just barely beat.

Re: Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
I fancy Alvarez's next opponent will be the winner of Austin Trout v Delvin Rodriguez this weekend. Probably Trout for a somebodys 0 has got to go type affair. Trout beat Saul's brother Rigoberto not long ago too, so a bit of family vengeance can get thrown into the mix

Wow. Didn't know that. Good selling point!!!

Re: Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
Canelo- kirkland is almost done for september 15th..
cotto sounds good but canelo would knock him out.
At least kirland is young, hungry, and has a aggressive style thatight trpuble the young champ.
I wana see how canelo handles himself when someone tries to rougj him up with volumes of punches.

There's no way they hand him to Trout to get his ass owned!
Kirkland is the best choice
-
Delvin Rodriguez would be a good one.
Canelo won't beat Cotto at this point, maybe in a few years but hell Cotto will be retired by then.

Fortunately for you, they won't let him anywhere NEAR Cotto until Cotto's nearing retirement, and Canelo has a few more years of experience in him. So your theory will remain just that...... a theory.
;)

My opinion is if Canelo breezes by Kirkland then we may very well see him in against Cotto next. Allegedly, Kirkland is his mandatory, even though Kirkland didn't fight Vanes for the mandatory position first, which would give Canelo a chance to take a voluntary defense against some like Cotto. Cotto v. Canelo is a big ppv.

Re: Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
Cotto beats Canelo....FACT

Cotto would smash canelo into bits

Re: Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
Jim jones wants his kool aid back. It's not a stretch to say that the hardest Canelo has been pressed and jabbed over his last 4+ fights was vs a Alfonso Gomez. Alfonso flipping Gomez. I don't see him blowing Cotto anywhere at this particular time.
I'm first interested to see him get smacked square on the chin by a wreckless but dangerous Kirkland who might actually believe he wasn't brought in as a guy waiting for ink to just dry on his paycheck.

Re: Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
I don't think anyone would mind Kirkland as a replacement.

I agree, the topic title irks me a bit though. 'Alvarez's next opponent?' would be better and to the point.

Re: Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
ps when we talk about cotto do we migel? Cos alvarez isn't quite ready for cotto imo.
Kirkland makes sense

Agree 100%, Spicoli. A Kirkland fight would be good at SO many levels. Now that's a match I'd gladly sit down with a bag of popcorn, or a six-pack of beer (whichever the mood) to watch.

Re: Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
It will be Kirkland, orderd by the WBC. Great fight, I dont know how it will go though. Im thinking Alvarez KO though.
-
Re: Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
Alvarez is getting damn good imo, I can't see Kirkland standing up to his punches at all. It will be really fun while it lasts and it's great if they get it made, but I don't see many positives for Kirkland going in.

its a tradgedy mate

Re: Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
I know he's in another bout, but to me Delvin Rodriguez would test Canelo pretty good. If not him then Kirkland or perhaps as a wild card Carlos Quintana? Angulo would have been a good choice as well.
-
Re: Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
I don't want to see Canelo in with Kirkland. IMO, he will only have that punchers chance of winning. I just think Saul will totally outclass a straight forward Kirkland who don't have a solid chin. And 2, what if Kirkland do pull off the win? How will a Kirkland vs Mayweather fight look? Like $@#! This Canelo fight is a fight to see who's going to fight Floyd next(if not a Bradley victory).

I like his composure. He thinks through but not to the point of snoring. He chooses his attack but in fairness he largely has had that option in there.
I really want to see him bumrushed freely and where the instincts are. Kirkland won't settle but in the end I think Alvarezs poise and timing on a face first will see Kirkland laying on the mat Allen Green style.
As unfortunate a circumstance as it is, as a sub Kirkland makes good sense.

Re: Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
Kirkland is a fun guy to watch in the ring and his fight with Angulo was a scrap. I wonder if he is being moved too quickly into this fight in order to secure a big pay day after suffering a shoulder/back injury in the Molina fight. A healthy Kirkland would be dangerous to Saul at least for a few rounds. I'm not mad at Saul for choosing Kirkland right now. It's a good fight for his development. The ultimate aim is to face Cotto, which is a huge fight. GB needs to be honest with Lara: he won't be facing Canelo any time soon. It ain't happening. Frankly, I'm not even too upset about it. Canelo clearly is still refining his craft. If he needs more time before he understands how to approach movers, so be it to an extent. I don't understand why he wouldn't ask for Vanes as a mandatory because he seems to be less dangerous than Kirkland. Am I wrong?

I haven't actually seen Vanes since he fought Ouma, in which he looked anything but dangerous, but I don't feel Kirkland has any real shot against Alvarez either. I doubt many fighters save a few really get to ask for anyone in a situation like this. Kirkland is fun to watch and has been on HBO recently thus is a bigger draw, he'll come out guns blazing and make it exciting for a while at least. It's a very logical choice for Canelo from any angle imo.

Re: Who's Going To Replace Paul Williams for Saul Alvarez?
Kirklands pulled out cos hes injured. He was never NOT injured imo, was just wishful thinking taking the shot. Like I said earlier in the thread, the winner of Trout-Rodriguez is gona be the next opponent imo.
Lara would be great but you would think too high on the risk/reward for Alvarez.

After that sleeper win over Rodriguez I'm not sure Trout will get the opportunity.
I say give Gabriel Rosado a shot after that exciting TKO of Powell.
