I know he was a cocky little bugger but he was exciting to watch
I miss the showmanship..he was the last of a kind. He was from the Eubank/Benn era where boxing had characters..the fighters played a role and we as fans lapped it up. Nobody really does that anymore. The only real larger than life character these days is Floyd
It's been simple WWE marketing logic for years and why they have been the longest running tv show ever. They understand that one simple thing that Eubank, Naseem and Floyd understand : Everybody will pay to see the good guy vs the bad guy.
Naseem, Eubank and Floyd chose to be the bad guys amongst all of the cookie cutter good guys.
As for his boxing, yeah I guess I miss the fact we never got to see how great he might have been and how he bounced back
from a loss. Guess the answer was he couldn't
Yes I miss him too. Still got the magazine with him in a leather jacket with nothing underneath but wearing the ibf belt lol
I miss seeing MAB bounce that bastard's head off the turnbuckle ;D
Floyd Mayweather Jr had hand trouble...he seems fine now, just saying. It's not that I don't rate Naz, I just think he's more flash than talent is all, be honest he was a lot of flash. The flips over the ropes the hour long ring entrences, the constant shit talking ....it all got a bit old for me.
I do find it kind of funny when people with no details or picture of who they on this forum , use the - I have trained with him , my brother fought both of them , my dad can twat your dad , bullshit to make their point of view stronger.
For the record i wish Hamed had taken more ass kickings.
I missed him at first, but he's in the past now. I would love to have seem him fight Morales, JMM or rematch MAB. I think they would all have beaten him, but then again they are all ATGs imo. He was great little fighter!
He was fun in the ring because he was unpredictable and explosive. All the pomp and pageantry of a Toddler and Tiaras show just made you want to see him get blasted though.
Let’s admit it, hating someone in boxing makes fight just a bit more exciting. So yeah, I miss Naz too.
Like him or hate him he was exciting to watch.
Nobody does the flip into the ring, or the flying carpet ride like ol' Hamed used to.
All that pageantry... only to have Barrera feed him the corner turnbuckle... it just doesn't seem fair.
Entertaining yes but he could not drive for shit the nob head. ;D
The one who threw the multi millions deals for light weight class fighters. When I see pictures of him with his 75 extra pounds, I can barely believe that this guy once got me totally hooked to my T.V asking for more.
He was exciting and an arrogant prick at the same time, but overall do not miss him.
Hell yeah I miss him. I was at his final fight against Calvo it was the first live show I had been to and I loved it.
No one can argue that he wasn't entertaining. The power he had was devastating. Great reflexes, great chin, great speed, excellent boxing brain.
Anyone who saw the build up to the MAB fight knows he didn't train properly. Shit sparring, shit running. Complacency had definitely set in. I believe all that to be true but he got what he deserved. MAB is also one of my favourite fighters so i'm not sticking up for Naz. Both at their best I'd have made Naz favourite but a MAB win wouldn't be shocking.
I don't believe Naz ducked certain fighters but he was delaying fighting them because him and his family were so driven by money they wanted to make as much as possible as quick as possible. He faced a lot of top fighters.
How devastating must that win have been for him? very. but think about this he went in with Calvo afterwards - European champ! how many other fighters face the European champ off the back of a loss? not many.
He got millions of people talking about boxing and loads of kids in to boxing. No doubt he could be a twat of the highest order but boxing was better when the Prince was about.
I don't miss him, and his some of his fans remind me why.
I believe he recently stated he made the retirement decision due to his brittle hands.
Maybe he was contemplating retirement before the Barrera fight, who knows..
yeah miss him... he went off with his millions, brought up his family and got fat.
but I would love to see some more of this (5.10 onwards)...
