What fight will you be watching?
Assuming everything goes down as reported, Victor Ortiz will be fighting Canelo Alvarez on the same night and in the same city where Sergio Martinez will be defending against JCC Jr.
Both match up's are fight of the year candidates, if both are held on PPV and you only were going to watch one, which one would you watch and why?
Re: What fight will you be watching?
I'm choosing Sergio Martinez vs Julio Chavez Jnr. I think that will be a great fight and Chavez will push Martinez HARD. If Barker laid punishment on Martinez for a few rounds I think Chavez does very well indeed. Turnin in to quite the beast IMO.
In the other fight. Ortiz got BULLIED by Maidana and had his will broken. That alone is enough for me, regardless of when the fight took place, to believe Alvarez will break Ortiz too as he's a much bigger, more powerful, better boxer and quicker opponent than Maidana. Ortiz played at beingtyhe thug against Mayweather and soon got brought down to earth with that 'nasty' facade not lasting long. Simple one IMHO. Don't quite get why Ortiz would want to take this fight personally. Should stay at WW and Alvarez should fight a LM.
Anyway, just my two pence worth.
Re: What fight will you be watching?
I agree with MacMagician about the main events. I will say, however, that GBP has put on *far* better undercards than Top Rank for the past 2-3 years and that could potentially sway things.
Also, I know this is attacking the hypothetical, but Ithink there's only about a 5% chance of the two companies actually shooting themselves in the feet and going forward with conflicting PPVs and if they do go forward with it, what I'll actually do is just order both, DVR them, and watch them one after another.
Re: What fight will you be watching?
Martinez is just more entertaining than Alvarez or Ortiz and if that fight gets made I'll be looking forward to seeing him spark Chavez jnr :D
Re: What fight will you be watching?
Martinez v Chavez Junior is the fight we have all been waiting for so that is the fight I would want to watch. I hope Box nation get it because I would stay up to watch this fight. No way Ortiz v Saul should be PPV and on the same day, why could they not make it a week earlier or later? Makes no commercial sense to fight at the same time.
Re: What fight will you be watching?
I have to go with Martinez versus Junior, but that shouldn't come as much of a surprise from me.
Who is in the right regarding September 15, 2012? Top Rank allegedly announced to the ppv industry that it was reserving 9/15 prior to Golden Boy announcing Alvarez/Ortiz on that date. However, Golden Boy formally reserved the date with the Nevada Commission before Top Rank.
Either way, it would be a shame if Alvarez and Junior went head to head on Mexican Independence day. I doubt they'll let it get to that point.

This is exactly what I would do. Martinez V Chavez seems like the bigger event but the undercard issue is something that would sway me towards the GBP event if I was only going to watch one.
Re: What fight will you be watching?
Well, if this were to come true, it would surely tip the scales in favor of the Martinez versus Junior clash: Marquez vs Viloria in Play For Chavez-Martinez Card? - Boxing News

where is there a Rican involved? lol
it's two Mexicans (JCC Jr & Alvarez), and Argentinian (Martinez), and a Mexican-American (Ortiz), I'd only pray that Cortez isn't involved lol
Re: What fight will you be watching?
Martinez v Chavez
I'm probably the only one but I'm very much against the Alvarez/Ortiz fight.

I just spent 5 minutes admiring that JMM counter and combo.
I also will be watching Martinez paints Jr.s face with stiff right handed jabs and softening him up for a late round bye bye.
Re: What fight will you be watching?
Looking at Ortiz, I'm wondering if GBP were actually wanting Saul to retire him. That was a mismatch from the second it was being mooted.
It'd be nice if GBP now take a step backwards and drop their card and instead try to secure a May 5th date for next year as part of as "agreement" for not going head-to-head. Problem is I think Schaefer is too stubborn.
Re: What fight will you be watching?
martinez v chavez will be a cracking battle between the elite roiders
id be watching that one even if alverez fights mayweather
Re: What fight will you be watching?
I will definitely be watching Martinez/Chavez.
Ive been waiting for years for Martinez to get his chance a big money and PPV exposure.
Ive picked Martinez to win in all of his fights since his first HBO appearance.
I was ecstatic when I saw him KO Williams in the 2nd, I literally jumped out of my seat yelling.
One of my favorite moments as a boxing fan is when I saw Martinez going in deep with the hooks up top like Hagler when he fought Hearns, seeing it live on tv I said," Damn, Martinez is going for the knockout!" and then next round he did via KO of the year with a beautiful left hand.
I might go to this fight too as much as it kills me it's a Top Rank Event, the beating I see Martinez putting on Chavez in front of the whole world is going to be amazing.
Re: What fight will you be watching?
I think Chavez - Martinez is a really intriguing fight. I actually think Chavez is going to win.
Canelo - Ortiz, I wasn't all that excited about, even before Ortiz loss. I always thought Ortiz would just be too small/inexperienced fighting larger fighters to really trouble Alvarez.

I actually made good money on the Zbik fight.
My reasoning was this :
Chavez Jr. first title fight, there is NO WAY he's going to lose that one lol.
It ended up being pretty close with the Split, but even if Zbik would have won every single round there was just no way he wasn't going to get robbed.
This fight I'm not too sure, a fight of this magnitude I wouldn't put it past the Bobfather to put in the usual fix.
That's the only thing keeping me from betting on Martinez.
