Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
:action: An afternoon fight here in the States, and a Saturday evening fight in the UK, so this is one us Saddoites can watch together.
July 7th
At Berne, Switzerland (Epix and EpixHD.com): Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson, rematch, 12 rounds, for Klitschko's Ring/IBF/WBO/WBA heavyweight title.
I figure Tony "the Tiger" has a snowballs chance in hell of winning the rematch, the only question in my mind is when Wlady will either stop him or knock him out. I'll say about the 7th or 8th round.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
Wlad weighed in at a career high 249 and Thompson came in at a respectable 244.7 the lightest he's been in 5 years (so says boxingscene)
One would assume with that extra weight Wlad will come in and do his best to out muscle Thompson. Some statistics, every time Wladimir has been a smidge over 244 he has won and won by stoppage: Mormeck 244 & 3/4 (KO 4); Sam Peter II 247 (KO 10); Chambers 244 & 3/4 (KO 12); Rahman 244 & 3/4 (TKO 7); and Austin 246 & 1/2 (KO 2). Also for the first fight Wladimir was outweighed on the scales by Tony Thompson 241 to 247 & 1/2 and Wladimir was still able to out hustle and out work the larger Thompson, stopping him in the 11th. In Rematches Wladimir has always won and always won by stoppage: Byrd II 7, Brewster II 6, Sam Peter II 10.
As always I'll be hoping for an aggressive Wladimir as I believe Thompson can't hang with Wlad's pace or power. Thompson likes to utilize his solid defense, size, and long jab, Wladimir will look to make Thompson move, give up angles, and make Thompson pay for any slip ups.

A Wlad fight in Switzerland. Doesn't anyone else find that ironic ;D
Alright, alright, I like Wlad. He should be more assertive and repeat the ko but earlier. Tony has a -shot- but I think he too easily excepts his role and sits on the outside getting measured repeatedly.

I don't really get why Thompson is getting a rematch unless he's a mandatory, he was knocked out in the 1st fight, and will get knocked out quicker in the rematch.
Having said that, I like watching Wlady, I can already hear Manny Steward somewhere around the 5th round saying: "Quit playing with this muther-fucker and knock him out, this is what fans want to see."

The Swiss must be big boxing fans, haha, I figure they payed Wlad the most of any of the other venues.
This fight will start somewhere around 5:00 PM ET Saturday afternoon, don't go to the refrigerator.
cheers bro

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
Tony just looks so slow in comparrison to Wlad.
He even falls slowly. ;D
I can't imagine what Tony could have improved on since their last fight, so doubtful there will be much new to see here.

I am going with wlad in 7, and while I don't think any of em stand a chance let's see him with pulev, arreola or boystov next...

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
2 wins over byrd, 2 wins over peter, 2 wins over thompson (touch wood) and a win over his contemporaries (and rival champions) ibragimov and chagaev equals a very respectable resume indeed!

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
47 seconds into the video........why?
Why does someone punch a guy 4,5 times in the head then grab him?
I just remember Thompson being David Haye like in that fight. Not ever really trying to win.

This is on Box Nation surprisingly, so will watch it, hope it does not clash with the Fury fight too.

That's Wlady, tie the guy up so he can't hit you back, he also fights cautious/timid, even against a sloth like Thompson, who couldn't crush a grape. Did you notice how tired Wlad looked in the later rounds of that video? Wlad suffers from gaso-phobia, that's a fear running out of gas and getting KTFO like he was in the 1st fight with Brewster.

Just noticed the start time. Might actually miss it with a lobby full of late comers here. Bummer. I tried to envision Tony with a straight bomb or two to trouble Wlad but I just can't. He's a nice enough guy but just looks so frail. Think it'll be Wlads to dictate and decide. Cheers.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
please add your RBR scores on this thread and i will add to my fightscorecollector blog (in the signature below).
Will it be repeat or revenge...personally i think it will be 1 way traffic with a Ko for Wlad around 8-9 rounds

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
Looks like this fight might start in the next 20-30 minutes, they had a camera in Thompson's dressing room and he was getting his gloves put on. I've got a German Stream but it's quality is good.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
Wladimir's walking to the ring now.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
Alright here we go, the Swiss/germans do like to put on a show. :)

great camera work! love the deliberate toe stepping.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
Wladimir's softening him up now. A few more rounds I reckon.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
I missed Wlad's KD, at the end of the 2nd round, actually it didn't look like one.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
This is Wlad hunting for a KO, knowing he should. Thompson better start sta king his life on that timed left hand.

Just a matter of time before Wlad puts Tony's lights out with a big right hand. I don't know why Wlad doesn't use his jab better, it would set up the right hand.

His eyes literally crossed going down. They can just wave this one off anytime really.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
Wlad just mugged him in the corner :D
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
Great punch from wladimir to put him down for the first time.. poor tony doesn't look very well at all
-
Tony Thompson makes me miss Bert cooper.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
Predictable, Wlad, by 6th round KO, after a KD, the ref waves it off. I didn't give Thompson a round in the fight, although there was so little action in the 1st round, he could have been given that. So, 5-0 in rounds for Wlad before the KO in the 6th.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
I wouldn't doubt that Thompson didn't get 1 million plus for this fight, not a bad payday for a pug who's basically a no-talent Journeyman.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson Saturday afternoon on Epix
I don't think thompson is that bad, he isn't that great either he's just old now, it's a shame he and chambers didnt fight the final eliminator, he sort of became mandatory by default would have been nice if he earned it by doing more than beating maurice harris or whoever it was.

Wlad was all business, I hope he keeps this attitude up. Wlad was looking for the big shots and the KO and he keeps the streak of rematch wins by KO alive.
Povetkin or the winner of Arreola vs Stiverne next

Arreola versus Stiverne is a solid match-up of top ten heavyweights. I want to see Povetkin in with one of the Klitschkos soon.

Surely you are jesting that was as usual a shocking example of Wlad dragging the heavyweight division through the gutter. Wrestling, mauling, rabbit punching, cowering and leaning. Someone of a similar size but no fitness, gave him the heeby jeebies. Poor and then on top of that a beyond terrible undercard to further insult the fans. Disgusting, nothing noble in that nonsense.

Did the outcome surprise anyone? Did anyone, anywhere expect that bum to win? Thompson, in the same ring with Klitschko, is laughable. What a waste of time!
BOXING IS ABOUT THE MONEY, ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! I don't care if Thompson gets a payday, but don't waste our valuable time with stupid fights.
