That's how a champion rolls!!
I want Pavlik vs Froch. I like Kelly because he doesn't talk a lot of trash. I like Carl because he's so intense, everything is life or death with the guy. I think Froch wins, but Pavlik is a hard, sharp and accurate
puncher if he gets close enough. This is one of those, what if, fights for me. I want to see the fight not ask, what if.
I would love to see Pavlik get hammered into submission....come on Froch!
I like Froch and would love to see him fight Pavlik.
But..... why the qualifier? (in Nottingham)
Just say you want to shut his mouth wherever.
Wembly is like our version of the cowboys stadium in terms of size!!!
O2 arena. British fighters with titles should defend in Britain.
On top of that froch has defended away from home a few times now so I think he should stay at home until Canada and if he wins that then fight Abraham for the wbo in a neutral venue and drag ward out of the states
The way Pavlik is talking he thinks he's ready and would jump at it.
The weird thing is he's sober now so not sure how he's thinking that. That leaky defence catching up? Who knows.
Of course, neither of those venues is in Nottingham. But in any case, he certainly gets to dictate terms to Pavlik who really hasn't done anything (recent) to earn a fight at this level.
I view this as pretty much a total mismatch at this point. But taking Pavlik as an "easy fight" while waiting for bigger fish is, per Froch's MO, much better than 99% of other fighters do for the fans. I'd still much prefer the Kessler fight though. (No interest in ever seeing Arthur Abraham fight again -- zero point in Froch dominating him again and doing so wouldn't give him any leverage to "drag" the division champ to Europe.)
I'd be surprised to see Froch fight Pavlik in November, but if it did happen i'd have to support Kelly, even if he gets his ass kicked.
I personally think Pavlik wouldn't come to Nottingham to fight Froch. It's far too risky for his second coming and would he get paid enough to get beat? Unless Pavlik really does think Froch isnt that good and he is more than capable of coming to the UK to beat him I don't think he should be saying anything really. I hope he doesn't price himself out, and let's this fight happen.
I would love the Kessler fight to happen, but we haven't heard much about that recently and this would be a fight that would be an acceptable replacement for Froch. I just hope Pavlik really is up for the challenge and sees this as his genuine opportunity to get himself back to the top. Not just calling out Froch for the sake of it and Pavlik not backing himself up by coming to face the champion who is giving Pavlik a potential shot at his crown.
Hope it happens though, would be a great fight, but as i said before I would be concerned if Pavlik was willing to travel to get his ass beaten.
Errr..they think it because it is
Pavlik should come to Nottingham to get his arse handed to him in this case - just not to satisfy your patriotism.
The more rational reason is because he's the legit number 2 in the division and Kelly Pavlik hasn't done anything since Martinez. If we get the Pavlik of old, he could give us some exciting moments on his way to being K.O'd by Carl..
Hearn has said that Kessler is demanding a fortune for the rematch so obviously negotiations have been delayed.
Would be good for us UK fans to see one our best fighters fight a big american name on UK soil, doesn't happen very often.
Even if Froch were to beat Pavlik and Kessler I don't see Ward coming over here for a rematch. He is the daddy in the division and gets to dictate where the fight happens. That is fair. To be honest I don't think Froch would have a problem going back to America for the rematch he would just be grateful for a chance at redemption.
Pavlik won't be an easy fight though.
At super middleweight, Pavlik just has not performed as effectively as he did as a middleweight. It's because his power hasn't translated at 168. Froch is a career super middleweight with a decent chin. Froch's also been in with better competition his last few fights. Not a good recipe for Pavlik. The only thing in Pavlik's favor is that he looked better against a common opponent in Jermain Taylor. If I'm Pavlik's people, I would negotiate with Bute, Froch and Kessler's people right now for the best deal. Does everyone agree that for a stay-busy type opponent, he's the best option out there?
I agree with what you are saying, But maybe Pavlik feels he is ready for a Carl Froch fight, with him slating his performances why doesnt Pavlik step up to Nottingham and fight the champion? If Pavlik thinks he can be the man at 168 he should go and fight Froch and bring the belt back home? Pavlik thinks hes ready...now here is the opportunity.
Pavlik probably isn't going to get any better than he currently is. He's knows it too so he's looking at getting the biggest possible paydays out of what's left of his name. So what options has he got? Froch and Ward, who else? Nobody else who sells tickets and/or makes lots of TV money. And he knows he's got no chance against Ward and his best chance of getting back to big money is somehow beating Froch in a war. So that's why he's after a Froch fight.
I hope this fight does happen. Froch can be dragged into a brawl and Pavlik can bang. I think Froch has his number all day long but you never know with a big puncher like Pavlik. He was getting destroyed against Taylor first time around and then his power turned it for him. Good matchup IMO.
He can't bang at 168. Doesn't look like it so far anyway. Donaire did and interview recently blaming his leg cramps* on warming up for over an hour before he got into the ring and he warmed up for so long because he was told Pavlik would flatten his opponent in a couple of rounds. So Top Rank were expecting Pavlik to blow the guy away and he didn't. I don't think he's stopped anyone at 168 and can't remember him even coming close to it. I don't think he has the same power at 168 anyway.
*actually a well-known side-effect of A-side meth.
