Bert Cooper still fights :-\ and to make matters worse he's fighting Fedosov who can bang.

Agree with all of this (except "probably fears having a neutral referee"). Granted, there are no really good options in the division, but the Arreola fight they rejected is the best of this bunch. Unknown polish guys? Not so much.
It's too bad a Povetkin fight can't be forced somehow. Clear that he will never fight a Klitchko in favor of milking that BS belt against beatable guys for the rest of his "prime." Still, I would have to think he could get a one-time payday against Wlad that would be bigger than his next 15 fights against off-TV no-hopers. That's one they could actually promote -- a "unification" bout (as absurd as that is).
-
Re: Heavyweight Fight Schedule
There's no American heavyweights willing to fight them at the moment. Wladimir-Arreola was pretty much agreed on for New York until Vitali mentioned retiring after a fight or two...now Arreola and his camp changed their minds and are now waiting for a shot at a vacant WBC belt.
On Povetkin...the first backout in 08 was suspect from the beginning...his handlers claimed he was in training running through the woods and tripped over a tree stump...then Rahman got the call. Could it have happened...yes but I have my doubts
To be fair to his handlers, they were ready to throw him in with Klitschko in 2010...but Atlas stopped Wlad-Povetkin from happening claiming he wasn't ready. Here's a quote from Atlas..."Sauerland [who promote Povetkin] and his people wanted him to get on a plane for a press conference. It was a few days later, on a Monday, where the match would be signed and it would be announced. He said 'no, if Teddy Atlas tells me not to get on a plane I won't.' After that Teddy had Povetkin fighting in unlicensed fights here in America. I believe one of those "fights" is on youtube.

Mariusz Wach says he has now signed to fight Wladimir Klitschko.
Вах: Если хорошо настроюсь на Кличко - стану чемпионом
rough translation:
Quote:
Polish Star Mariusz Wach (27-0, 15 KOs) in Nowy Dziennik newspaper interview, promised to do what other Polish boxers failed to do (Andrzej Golota, Albert Sosnowski and Tomasz Adamek) and become world champion heavyweight champion. But the task is quite difficult, because the win in front of the battle is long-time leader of the heavyweight division, Vladimir Klitschko (58-3, 51 KO), with whom Wach would meet at the end of this year.
"The contracts have been signed, '' said Wach. Mentally I had been preparing for this fight for quite a few months and I feel good. I do not think that three Polish boxers who fought for the title, failed to become world champions. Poland will have its first heavyweight champion of the world ".

Re: Heavyweight Fight Schedule
I hope Wilder fights someone in the BoxRec top 100 next (someone decent like Shane Cameron, Carlos Takam, or Sherman Williams).
He's quite capable of beating people like that. He needs the experience against better opponents or he won't be ready for the top ten when the time comes.

Don't think much of fury as in don't think hell go all that far but he's faced better comp than wilder, who's got no room to talk really, he's yet to face someone semi decent.

Oquendo defeats Hawkins by TKO
Окендо остановил Хоукинса
rough translation:
Quote:
Puerto Rican heavyweight Fres Oquendo (35-7, 23 KOs) won a third victory already this year by stopping American Robert Hawkins (23-20).
Throughout the battle, Oquendo controlled the situation in the ring completely, moving well and landing many jabs. In the third round, he twice sent Hawkins in knockdown attacks on the body, and after the seventh Hawkins refused to continue the fight and the referee recorded the win by TKO Fres Oquendo in the seventh round.

I am sorry but Mormeck would be a joke. Strictly target practice. Lyakhovich might give him a few rounds, but the only one of the three I can see as a learning experience for Tyson would be Chagaev.

Vladimir Hrunov says "Povetkin and Tszyu immediately found a common language"
I have a feeling we'll see a better Povetkin on Sept 29, now that he has a better trainer.
http://www.allboxing.ru/archives/2012-08-20_18_41.html
Quote:
The manager of Alexander Povetkin, Vladimir Hrunov, spoke to allboxing.com. Hrunov chose Kostya Tszyu as a trainer for his ward.
Vladimir, fight against Rahman will be standing at first under the guidance of new coach, the celebrated Russian Boxer Konstantin Tszyu. It is clear that the conclusions can be made only after a bout with Rahman, but as you seem to be mutual understanding between them found?
Yes, certainly. Kostya is a great athlete, perfectly knowing both physical and psychological side of professional boxing. He goes throught all the preparations while taking into account every detail.
And what with Teddy Atlas? Relationship with him finally severed?
Even before we have agreed with Tszyu to work together, we tried to contact him, but he tore all the contacts and not replied to calls and emails. Apparently, work at ESPN it completely absorbed. In any case, I am glad that we have collaborated with him in his time and believe that Alexander this collaboration benefited.
Alexander was not hard to adjust to the new system? After the gruelling training methods, Tszyu is legendary.
Alexander is a very talented athlete and now is has a new enthusiasm. With Kostya they have found a common language.
did the change of the date for the bout with Rahman affect the preparation of Alexander?
Although the schedule was changed, I do not think that this will prevent Alexander to peak form to 29 September. I repeat: Kostya is a professional high class and knows all the nuances of the sport.
Vladimir, originally one of the venues of the fight, Povetkin-Rahman, when he still was scheduled for July was called Moscow. Why then the battle was moved to Germany?
Is one of the main reasons was that the show would end in about three hours a night.
Why so late?
Is the condition of the German television ARD. And there is a regulation of the municipal government of Moscow that all the events of this magnitude must end before 23:30 hours. Or by way of a special agreement should be renewed for a period of time, the work of the Moscow metro. At the moment we do not have sufficient time to resolve the issue.

Saw wlad is fighting the tall polish guy , but there wasn't any thread about it. At least its not Thompson or Mormeck. He certainly needs a bit more of a test, maybe wach can offer more with him being taller than Wlad. But I do expect wlad to win this and move onto better things.

Denis Boytsov interview:
http://www.allboxing.ru/archives/2012-08-26_18_55.html
Promising Russian heavyweight Denis Boytsov in a video interview wth the website Box-Info.Net talked about wanting to move forward. He discussed the situation in the promotional company Universum and the chances of Mariusz Wach defeating Wladimir Klitschko.
Denis, you are now with the promotional company Universum, what happens there now?
- My promoter tells me that will be soon be a TV contract. Some big fights are planned. Time will tell.
But didn't Waldemar Kluch already say this 2 years ago?
- I trust and hope for the best. But because of all that was said with little done before, I'm not sure what is going to happen.
Are you considering a move to Sauerland?
- As yet, no proposals. But I am young and have potential. I want to become a world champion and no one will stop me.
Don't you think it's taking too long? You could have been moved more quickly. Of course, you were hampered by an injury.
- Yes, the injury is one thing, but what is happening with Universum is another. It has no foundation and doesn't know where it's going. But I'm not discouraged and will move on. I will succeed.
Without a good promoter and trainer, you have no chance, right?
- Correct.
With whom would you like to meet in the ring, excluding the Klitschko?
— Of course, I want to fight Klitschko, but I'll have to do another fight or two with contenders. I've spent a lot of time in training (almost half a year for my last fight, yet it wasn't for a top opponent). But to get into the right frame of mind for a Klitschko fight I need to be fighting more often against contenders.
The next opponent of Wladimir Klitschko is Mariusz Wach. Are you familiar with him?
- Yes, I know him and have seen him fight.
Does Wach have a chance to win?
- He's bigger than Klitschko and can punch. But, he probably he lacks the experience of fighting at that level. But if he has desire, then you need to use it and go to the top.

Ruslan Chagaev interview here.
http://www.allboxing.ru/archives/2012-08-28_02_01.html
He'll be fighting Werner Kreiskott on Sep 1. Poor opponent, but we can't expect much on short notice.
Ruslan says he hasn't signed to fight Fury and won't unless he can find a good trainer to prepare him.
Quote:
Ruslan, is it true that you're going to fight Tyson Fury?
- Not really. At the end of last week, I got a request from team Tyson Fury, and on Saturday has already appeared the news that our fight will be held in November. This information is premature. Negotiations only began, Tyson would be an interesting opponent, but until I find a new trainer I can't sign.
Fury is a very good opponent and I do not intend to go into battle with him without proper training. One time they found an opponent (Travis Walker) a few days before and without having time to train for him it was a difficult fight.

Re: Heavyweight Fight Schedule
Interview with Mariusz Wach:
http://www.allboxing.ru/archives/2012-08-28_12_09.html
Heavyweight contender Mariusz Wach is interviewed by the Polish newspaper Super Express. They asked how much he'll be paid for the fight with WBA/WBO/IBF Wladimir Klitschko and asked about his training for the most important fight of career:
How much will you get for this fight? There are different reports.
— I can't talk about it, but I can assure you that my rate is very good. I have no plans on how to spend the money. Probably buy a house, maybe start a business, and the balance will be saved for the future.
You're getting married in March?
— A piece of paper doesn't mean much, what's really important is love, friendship and mutual respect. We have this already.
Probably you could make more monry for a fight with Klitschko later.
If my aunt had a mustache, she would be my uncle. I'm living for today, I do not know what will happen in six months or one month, so I took a chance on the most important fight of my life. All 5 people my team voted in favor of my taking the fight.
You know the Klitschkos have seen them fight?
— Several times I trained in the same gym and watched how they work. It was a few years ago and I want to say that I always liked them, not only for their boxing abilities, but also their classiness: they are polite, cultured, never in any way insult their opponents, don't engage in arguments, and prove their superiority on the ring.
Are you already training for Klitschko?
I'm having normal workouts now. My training camp will be held partly in Europe, maybe in Germany or Poland. I'll be doing my sparring in Europe.
You'll be gaining or losing weight?
- I want to stay in their weight not to lose speed. For breakfast I eat 10 eggs, only 3 of them with egg yolk. I'm also eating pasta, white meat, seafood, fruits and vegetables, but avoiding fat and I enjoy it.
Is it true that for a press conference with Klitschko you bought yourself a new suit?
- You are well informed. The suit is very elegant and comfortable.
Expensive?
- You always ask about money (laughs). Yes, for me it's the most expensive clothing I've bought in my life because it is the first suit that I've bought for myself.
