Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
This is just a little taste of their Face-Off episode, which premieres this Saturday night. The end of the video states that it premieres on Sept. 1st, but that is incorrect, it's this Saturday (well technically Sunday, for those in the eastern time zone). First at midnight ET they are showing the 1st episode of 24/7 Ward/Dawson, then at 12:30 am ET they are showing 2 Days with JCC Jr (Booooo), then at 12:45 am ET they are showing the Face-Off episode.

I think Martinez has gotten into JCC's head. :poke:
Once the full episode comes out, I'll post it here.

Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
I wasn't able to view it... but in the picture the kid looks a little psycho. I hope in fact Martinez HAS gotten into the kid's head, 'cause come Sept 15 he's going to shove that precious "0" up the kid's rectum.

Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
Chavez lives in his fathers past and anyone who does not believe that both him and his brother Omar were given the yellow-brick road are delusional. Paez jr started it.
Martinez battles with the ghost of Monzon. I just hope that the Martinez team addressed the devil in the details

Tough one to call!!
Can't pick a winner!
Didnt know that mexico and argentina spoke the same language??
-
Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
Martinez has been waiting for this one for years. He will take it, no matter what obstacles they put in his way.

Spanish is spoken in all of South America, Central America, most of the Caribbean, and some of Europe.

Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
from that short clip it looks like they had a nice little row
im not bothered who wins this, i dont particularly like either fighter, but it should be a good fight
-
Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
Martinez needs to stop him to win. If Chavez is on his feet at the end of the fight he'll get the decision.
-
Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
Also note that Martinez spent a long time in Europe as well so that would explain his deftness in the Spanish language. As for him beating Chavez I'd say that Chavez is made for him, a guy who comes forward, leans forward, no upper body movement, and no jabs.
Moreover since Chavez is a body puncher and Martinez fights in a semi crouching style its going to be very hard for Chavez to find the body of a smaller man fighting even smaller. I only do have one apprehension and that is the weight of Chavez, this wouldn't make me nervous if in boxing we still would insist on same day weighting.

almost all of South America. For example, in Brazil it's Portugese

Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video

Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
I was trying to remember a fight in which Chavez "fought tall" or even won a round by "boxing beautifully"... On the other hand, you have a guy who has done a little bit of everything.
Sergio has broken guys with single punches, worn guys down with volume, and boxed beautifully to lacerate a face to a bloody mess.
All in all it's Chavez who has something to prove. I just hope people give Sergio credit for his victory, if they are going to wager on Jr.
Will Chavez be treated as the champion and enter the ring first?

That's a very good point. Lets hope not, Sergio has been treated with such little respect by Sullied man already though, I fear that fattavez will be allowed to extend his delusion until just before he is KTFO.

Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
Martinez has faced better competition, then Jr. who hasn't been in the ring with anyone as skilled or as powerful. Martinez, is smart and knows how to 'fight', and I doubt that Julio Jr knows how to survive a war. Sergio will break Jr. down and stop him in one of the later rounds, team Chavez believes Jr is ready for Martinez, but he isn't and never will be.
BTW, Jr looks like a fucking clown in the video, I can't see this kid beating Martinez in Vegas, even if it goes to a decision.

I can't even stand to look at the guy actually. He looks like such a dufus, especially with those horse gums of his. ;D
And who taught him how to dress? He's wearing a track jacket underneath a suit jacket. :vd:
I hope Martinez carves him up good. :jabbing:

Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
Jose and the Chavez family are probably neighbours. Anybody who does not think the cards are stacked against Martinez is a blithering idiot. Not really any other way to put it.
-
Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
BTW, half of Mexico will show up for this fight in Vegas, but Sergio will have his share of fans there. I believe there's quite a few of us who want Martinez to kick Jr's ass, I wonder what the odds are starting to look like for this fight?

This is for Martinez's Ring magazine and Chavez's WBC middleweight title, Martinez is recognized as the middleweight champ, so Jr. will likely enter the ring first.
I truly believe Sergio will win this fight, but there's always a chance that he'll get fucked on the scorecards, if it ends up going to a decision, you know HBO will be all over Jr's nuts during the fight.

The cards may not be as stacked as they would be if this fight was happening in Texas, California, or Mexico. It really depends on who the judges are, and if they pay attention to Jr's rabid/idiotic mexican fans, who will be cheering everything Julio does..
Hopefully Sergio will take the judges out of the equation.

Brand new to the page and forum. I actually live in Vegas and was able to get tickets to this fight.
-
For me this is the most interesting fight of the year. Despite frustration with his past opponents and questions over his weight Chavez has developed into a very good fighter and I feel he deserves his shot.
Previously he has had difficulty with southpaws and had initially turned down the Lee fight because of his orientation. The Lee fight in the books I believe that he has been building toward this fight, developing to cope with the southpaw stance and associated difficulties.
This will be the biggest night of his life.
I hope Martinez knocks him out

Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
Well I just watched the full episode, and it was pretty good. Chavez sucks with his comebacks though, and I was hoping Martinez would have brought up him getting caught doping, and ask him why he refused Olympic drug testing for this fight. That would have made it a lot more interesting, because I'm sure Chavez would have fumbled with any kind of an answer.

Yea real easy fight tall, don't come forward like a idiot, and use your superior footwork and head movement.
Wtf r u thinking? Chavez will avoid nothing.

Body language: Martinez
War of words: Martinez
Confidence: Martinez
It looked like man against boy in that face-off. One thing.... if Kellerman had an interpreter, which I'm assuming he did.... he did a pretty good job. The whole interview was seamless.
I like the fact that Martinez is predicting a KO. That's bold for him.

Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
martinez is full of shit:
"The champion has to defend it against the best. The champion always has difficult fights. He shouldn't be learning. You have alot to learn before becoming a champion. Once you are champion you must accept the consequences."
martinez won the WBC Latino Light Middleweight Title against a guy with a record of 18-1. His next 5 fights were against opponents with losing records. their combined records were 44-77-9! the champion has to defend against the best my ass!

Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
I had DVR'd the face-off and just watched it. Awesome! Easily the best face-off yet -- and entirely because of Martinez. That was the best confident, intimidating shit-talking I've seen in a long time. I think Junior was a little thrown. The closer this fight gets the more of a blowout I think it will be - but I'm actually looking forward to it more than any other fight. Hate to say it but Arum actually did time this one just right.

Exactly. Martinez was sitting straight up, looking Junior in the eye and saying clearly: "I'm going to knock you out." Junior was slouching in his chair, avoiding eye contact some of the times, and all he could muster was: "You don't know me" or "I don't think so". Martinez was serious-faced the whole time. Junior had that little sneer of his, and looked a bit fidgety. That's why it looked a bit like a face-off of "man vs. boy".

Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
The funny thing will be not to see Jr. lose, which is more than possible, but to hear what everybody will say if Jr. wins convincingly. I wonder if people will give him credit or hate him more.

If Chavez wins, many people that come on this thread will disappear for about a month. By the time they come back this fight will be in the past and they wont have to defend their comments.
Not that I see Chavez winning but it would be fun to rub some noses in it
-
Re: Sergio Martinez vs Chavez Jr Face-Off Preview video
If you think Chavez will win and you feel good about that, good for you! I for one am not afraid to state my opinion and my sentiments on the two fighters. I think Chavez has come a long way, yes, but to think that a win over Andy Lee is something to Drool over is silly.
I watched Andy Lee get owned for free by Craig McEwan and Brian Vera like everyone else. If those two guys are not a side show attraction for premier & Elite boxers, then I do not know who is.
I am slightly more impressed with the win over Zbik, but he also floundered Chavez edged him.
If he stands up tall to Martinez and thinks his power is not going to bother him he is wrong. Andy Lee may as well have been playing patty cake. Martinez turns his punches over.
-
The only way I see Chavez winning this fight is if he has a monstrous weight/size advantage and is able to use this to perfection(which I don't believe he is capable of). I honestly believe that Martinez is going to hurt this kid if he keeps his cool. Martinez has to fight his fight and not have the mindset of "teaching the spoiled daddy's boy a lesson" affect his tactical approach and anger him. If he does this and keeps his emotion in check I just can't see Jr winning.

I would not put it past Chavez to come in over weight on purpose, and just take a hit on his purse. :sumo:
If he does that, it shows just how scared he is.
He has a history of not being professional with his training, his weight, his drug tests, so I will not be surprised at all if he pulls that bullshit.
