Greatest Comeback Ever
Just watched the Alvarez fight there and was thinking whats the best ever comeback in a fight, were the guys been compleatly dominated in the early part of the fight and knocked down a few times but still came back to win
-
Re: Greatest Comeback Ever
Nigel Benn versus Gerrald McClellan would be one that springs to mind.
-
Re: Greatest Comeback Ever
Froch Vs Taylor was a decent come back. froch down just once I think?
-
Castillo vs Diego Corrales I. It takes two to tango but Corrales was a little better this time! These two put on a performance that will be remembered for a long, long time.

Eubank against Watson.
Eubank battered and dropped but as he gets off the canvas he rips up a fuck off huge uppercut.
-
Re: Greatest Comeback Ever
Thompson v Haye was a hell of a comeback because Carl was getting battered. In fact a lot of Carl's fight are in this category.
-
Re: Greatest Comeback Ever
JMM coming back from 3 knockdowns in the 1st Pac fight to get a draw.
Jorge Fernando Castro vs. John David Jackson is just awesome to behold as he was totally outclassed and getting battered, looked like he had nothing left then BAM !
-
Re: Greatest Comeback Ever
Joe Louis vs Billy Conn
Rocky Marciano vs Jersey Joe Walcott I
Julio Cesar Chavez vs Meldrick Taylor I

Re: Greatest Comeback Ever
I'm gonna list some not so known/popular ones:
Ornelas vs. McKart 2 - An action packed fight which see's Ornelas floored twice before coming back making McKart quit on his stool. A fight thats vastly overlooked.
Carrasquilla vs. Hong - Carrasquilla dictates the pace in round 1. Then in round 2 he drops Hong 4 times. Round 3 comes around and Hong drops and stops Carrasquilla in his own back yard.
"Nañara" Martinez vs. Fuentes - "Nañara" hits the deck 3 times in 4 rounds only to comeback and spark Fuentes out in the 5th and claim the WBO title.
"Popo" Freitas vs. "Heina" Barrios - IMO one of the most underrated fights. What a sensational ending.
"Sellers vs. "Cat" Thompson - 6 knockdowns in 4 rounds. Sellers goes down twice and Thompson four in this back and forth fight.
Duarte vs. Torres - A fucken bloody mess with Duarte bleeding from both eyes and having been floored early on comes back to floor Torres twice to win it in the 9th rd.

Yes I was, on a pair of tix given to me on Friday afternoon the day before.
If that wasn't enough I also sat ringside for Rafa vs. Izzy 1 & 3.
The day Quintana beat Paul Williams, I was ringside for that.
I was ringside the day Sergio captured his 1st title (interim) vs. Bunema.
along with some other fights...

Winky was in grey wearing a Rocawear hat probably in the 5th row or so...
Behind him was JCC Sr. & JCC Jr. (Jr was wearing a long sleeve blue sweater) both ringside to cheer on long time JCC Sr. sparring partner JLCastillo...
I was about 3 rows back from the Chavez's. I'm wearing an off white blazer with light brown vertical stripes and a beige shirt... Oh! and sunglasses

I think the fight I come out the most in was Izzy vs. Rafa 3 because I sat directly across from the cameras. But I that fight was on Showtime.

Re: Greatest Comeback Ever
Weaver V Tate
Tate dominated the fight, he was going to win easily, then with 40 seconds to go in the final round POW knocked out cold with a left hook!
Corrales V Castillo is the greatest comeback during a round i have ever seen.

Hands down the best comeback ever...
I do NOT think this was a FOTY thought. It was a pretty bad one-sided beat down until Castro lands a 4 punch combo and just puts the lights out for Jackson. I can't help but think of this fight when I see Jackson coaching fighters now. It would be a very hard memory to erase as his pupil.

Reminds me of Sergio Martinez' trainer who never EVER takes his shades off

Carl Thompson staggering around for 5 rounds as usual before ending it with a devastating knockout.

Might as well have been 10 points. If Froch hadn't have stopped Taylor he would have lost so it was a pretty good comeback to grab victory with 14 seconds left in the fight. He was 106-102 down on 2 cards at least. Turning an imminent points loss in to a stoppage victory i'm certain can be called a good comeback.
-
Re: Greatest Comeback Ever
How did I miss the Julian Jackson one! That was gutting.
-
Re: Greatest Comeback Ever
Don't know about ever but a few personal favs regardless of length
Saad Muhammad and Marvin Johnson 2. Johnson gave him literal hell early..cuts, gashes and wobbles but Saad (Franklin) swarmed back to hurt then floor Johnson. Absolute savage battle, then again its Saad...per norm.
Quincy Taylor ko 12 Otis Grant. Lesser known one but undefeated Grant was boxing smart and ahead with ease I thought and then...boom! Taylor catches him with about 20 seconds left in 12th...one punch, down and out! No need to count.
Michael Carbajal v Jorge Arce. Carbajal fighting on memory, balls and a big right hand alone. Late on catches Arce late and gets stoppage. The mans a fuckin legend! Put Gonzalez first fight in there for that matter...he was getting hammered until that left hook.
Kennedy Mckinney v Welcome Ncita 1. Not sure what scores were but as a man McKinney came back from the brink in 11th, almost quit on himself, battered and down and when he got up he put one of the most brutal kos on Ncita you'll ever see. Find it...watch it!
Mercer v Damiani. Different kind on 'comeback' as Mercer was taking zero 'beating' but man he was being clowned badly by Damiani. One uppercut from him later in 9th and Damiani was on his knees pouring blood from his nose and badly broken. Game, set, match!
Wilfredo Vazquez tko11 Eloy Rojas. Challenger Vazquez was behind on all cards by as much as 4,8 points into 11th and then just detonated on Rojas who was making his 7th defense with a sudden barrage. Really harsh knockout, great sudden turn around win.
Kevin Kelly ko 9 Recardo rivera. Kelly looks terrible in comeback bout after first loss and gets beat up and ropped by unknown and suddenly snags victory with big bomb out of the dark.
Louis v Conn 1...Gatti v Rodriquez...Toney v Nunn...Benn v Logan, short but sweeeet!

Re: Greatest Comeback Ever
While they weren't single fights but "comebacks to the sport"
'Big' George Foreman - Came back after a long hiatus from the sport to become the oldest heavyweight Champion ever
'Dr. Ironfist' Vitali Klitschko - Came back after years away from the sport due to injury & dominated every single opponent he fought
'Will 'o the Wisp' Willie Pep - Came back after surviving a plane crash to continue to dominate

You can tell most here are young, talking about recent fights as the greatest come back ever, I was wondering if Weaver vs Tate would be here.

On a similar note, Vinny Paziensa coming back from a broken neck and becoming world champion.
Danny Williams knocking out Potter when he had that dislocated shoulder.

Some great mentions in this thread. Other notables would be
Moore/Durelle 1
Charles/Marciano 2

Hamed/Kelly
Tate/Weaver
Lamotta/ Dauthuille

Re: Greatest Comeback Ever
Matthew Saad Muhammad -v- Yaqui Lopez 2.
Saad went through the mill in this fight & looked a goner at one point, but he rallied back to win in impressive style.
-
Re: Greatest Comeback Ever
George Foreman vs Michael Moorer should be mentioned too.

Marciano was way ahead on points but the ref was going to stop the fight after round 7.

That one was nothing short of super human. Awe inspiring effort.

Re: Greatest Comeback Ever
Recently, Alvarado's come-back against Breidis Prescott on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao versus Juan Manuel Marquez III fight should be mentioned. Alvarado was down on all three scorecards going into the final round by quite a few rounds and knocked Prescott out in that round.
