Mike Tyson denied entry to New Zealand over 1992 rape conviction
"Iron Mike" denied entry to NZ over his 1992 rape conviction:
"Iron Mike" Tyson is learning once again that you can't escape your past, now that all of New Zealand has slammed the door in his face. Never mind that the tattoo on that same face was inspired by the designs of the Maori, New Zealand's indigenous people. And never mind that he was scheduled to appear at a charity event. New Zealand has a policy against welcoming convicted rapists, and so immigration officials canceled his visa. Officials had decided to make an exception in his case, but that decision was overturned at the last minute when the prime minister spoke out against him and the charity decided it would be better off without him. Sorry, Mike, but this was not a low blow."

Sad, but that is how travel is. You have convictions or drugs offenses on your record and you are blocked from a lot of places. Just because you are a name doesn't give you a free ride.

Re: Mike Tyson denied entry to New Zealand over 1992 rape conviction
Tyson came to England so why not New Zealand, then again Mitchell could not go to US to fight Rios.

Re: Mike Tyson denied entry to New Zealand over 1992 rape conviction
Haha, New Zealand is actually a very beautiful country with great people. I'm all for having a zero tolerance policy of letting convicted rapists travel anywhere(or breath in many cases:-X), harmless as Tysons visit would've been of course.

Because they're not the same country:confused:

Re: Mike Tyson denied entry to New Zealand over 1992 rape conviction
After he traveled all the way over there? That's unjust.
As a precaution, however, I'd hand out complimentary earmuffs to the general public.

The US visa restrictions seem much harsher. Murray was not allowed in because of an old assault conviction despite working with young offenders ( in an official certificated capacity) and clearly being a reformed character.
-
Re: Mike Tyson denied entry to New Zealand over 1992 rape conviction
Tyson may be "reformed", but he was a pretty unsavory character back in the day, and not just because of the rape conviction. I'm all for giving everyone a second chance, and forgiving and forgetting, but it's understandable why some people still view Tyson with contempt.

Apparently New Zealand's standards are higher than some other countries---what the hell are they thinking?

Maybe they were thinking that they didn't want a convicted rapist/felon in their country? I can't say I blame them.

When I go to the USA, I also has to show my (missing) criminal record - why should there be other rules for career criminal as Tyson with a long criminal record. It is not like he only has speed ticket or similar.

Right, rape is a first degree felony, Tyson was convicted and was sentenced to six years in prison followed by four years on probation. (he got out in 3 years) So where's the fucking agument? Tyson actually got off easy how would you feel if this had been your daughter, sister, et al.

You misunderstood my post - maybe due to my poor English. I agree with you and only tried to make an argument that a criminal like Tyson should be treated like a regular citizen. Criminal Danes are not able to enter the US, so why should it be different for Tyson.

I didn't misunderstand your post @peter Plys , i'm in agreement with you, and just adding to it.
It irks me when some of Tyson's fans seem to take his rape conviction lightly, if it had been anyone else they would have been doing 20+ hardtime. I even heard some idiotic Tyson supporters and Tyson himself saying "they took away 3 years from me". (sort of like they did Ali for draft evasion) :rotflmao:

Ridiculous. I'm sure she thought going to his private room was for a hankering for Cheerios.

Tyson prefers Lucky Charms, they're magically delicious because he sprinkles cocaine on them.

What she was doing in his room will always be a question in some of our minds, but they had a trial so maybe she really was that naive, or maybe she was pissed that he didn't give her more time to warm up. It could be that she was pissed that he automatically assumed they were there for the same reason, whatever the reason, Tyson was convicted.
