Isn't it just common sense to assume that a significant portion of the American populace would be of British or Irish descent? What with formerly colonising a fair chunk of the world and sending criminals to Australia it would also be fair to assume it fairly obvious that English people inhabited other regions of the globe and stayed. Also in the modern age, and with the UK disintegrating, a fair chunk of people have simply upped and left and are doing all kinds of things all over the place.

I would agree with the thesis that 'the English get about a bit'. They do.

English comes from Latin.

And no my language is not French, but that is where my forefathers come from. (France)

However if my wife was still alive, she could talk to you in 5 languages.

As for wimp's in France or in the UK, would not know. They seems to go into hiding when an American walks by. ;D

The funny thing is that globally I have found people adore a refined English voice over that of a dying dust yard hillbilly cowboy.

It is a regular source of amusement in lectures as I point out the finer points of the English accent and offer my own very good American variations.

You get a bit more respect with the BBC vibe, and certainly over that of the Bill Reilly rant vibe.

For a person who believes in "equality" certainly you don't class yourself higher simply due to your accent which any fool can copy. Mark Twain had an accent are we to believe that he was some sort of toothless knuckledragger? Will Rogers had an accent are we to believe that he was some kind of uncouth ape man? The South and Southern accent is one that many love and respect the world over....certainly England saw the South as more refined than the dirty Yankees in the Northeast.

I thought MarkTKO said Miles had an American accent? The classic plummy BBC accent is a product of the south anyway and Miles is a Northener. From t'up tha road.
