Morales tested positive for a banned substance.

Re: Morales tested positive for a banned substance.
Aw..god no, well hold on. Solis was tested positive and the very next day he went to an interdependent and credible agency and there he tested negative however the No Decision was never overturned. So this could be something like that. Or he could been taking tainted protein shakes and what not.
Bloody hell...

I'm pissed at Morales, he should know better and he's messing with my weekend plans, maybe.
Just read that the fight will go on as planned. Supposedly the fight will take place because the results from Sample B won't be available until after the fight takes place??? You can spin control that any way you want, but to me it sounds like money, ass kissing, pleading, future compensation and more money was involved. I suspect Angel Garcia had a really good time.
-
Re: Morales tested positive for a banned substance.
I'll wait for the results because I'm quite sure the title will not be on the line if it goes ahead and any gas Morales had going into the fight is now spent unless of course that this is explainable. He will probably lose a good portion of that 300 grand.
-
I read this while at work today, hope it isn't true but who knows seems like lately every few weeks a boxer tests postive for this or that.
-
Re: Morales tested positive for a banned substance.
Seriously, when are you guys going to stop being surprised at this? lol Just assume everyone is on to begin with, it's easier that way ;D

Sad but true, here's the way I look at it. I don't want easier, I want everyone to play by the same rules. I'm no expert, but it seems most of the abuse centers around weight control drugs.
The "same day weigh-in" is looking better to me everytime one of these "fails" happen.
What I don't want to see, is more weight divisions added.
I know I'm raving but it pisses me off that there is no real combined commitment by sanctioning organizations, promoters, boxing commissions, managers, trainers, Las Vegas--you'd think Vegas would be all over cheaters, they sure don't allow it when it comes to gambling--HBO, SHOWTIME, and the fans.
As soon as a "failed test" is announced spin control goes into
high gear--the greed exhibited can be sickening--and money starts changing hands.
Boxing is a business, and business is about making money, but any sane person would think there are enough principled individuals at the top of these organizations to put a stop to cheaters by saying no.
The fans--myself included--are just as bad, we'll watch this fight knowing one of the fighters was caught cheating.
My little rant has made me feel better but I'm still pissed, and I know all y' all were interested.
Is anyone else pissed?
-
Re: Morales tested positive for a banned substance.
I agree that with same day weight ins a lot of boxers would move to their supposed natural weight class instead of fighting at the one under. With that being the case, the amount of banned substance use should decrease but there's always a flip side to everything and..I'm just bummed I cannot believe this of Morales IF he did it. God damn it. God fucking damn it. Say it aint so joe say it aint so

Re: Morales tested positive for a banned substance.
Any word from Garcia or camp. Seems he'd be in full right to tell Morales to piss up a rope. He's the one getting the shaft in a rematch Morales was frankly fortunate to get at this stage in the first place. If only in life we all got an immediate "do over" after blowing off the rules and taking short cuts.
-
Re: Morales tested positive for a banned substance.
Oooh a thread complaining about a fighter being linked with steroids but yet in another thread everyones singing Evan Fields praises...;D

True enough. These things are not even surprising in fact they are almost expected. Cheating using the chemistry lab has probably been around in boxing in one form or another going back to its grappling days in ancient Greece. Cant see the belt being on line.

Re: Morales tested positive for a banned substance.
WBC Statement on Morales
"The only authorities on this title fight between the WBC super light champion Danny Garcia and his challenger Erik Morales are the New York State Athletic Commission and the WBC, and the only antidoping rule valid officially for the WBC will be the tests taken either in the dressing room before the fight or after the fight."
Wow, hypocrisy at its finest. So if Morales test clean before and after the fight, they will disregard the random drug test that he failed. Way to go
-
Re: Morales tested positive for a banned substance.
Athletes are pumping themselves full of all sorts now in their quest to get to the top and remain there. Even apparent legal products bought over the counter can contain illegal ingredients.
Whats wrong with a healthy diet, plenty of water and the odd bottle of Lucozade ;D

Re: Morales tested positive for a banned substance.
This even gets better...... Garcia, Morales Make Weight: Barclays Weigh-In Report
Allowed to bring his own scale???
I'm starting to see other reports that he is blaming it on Mexican meat which believe it or not has a chance to be given all the roids and shit pumped into cattle.

If they disregard the testing why would anyone participate in the testing? Why announce a failed test if it's irrelevant?
I'm beginning to think a national organization is needed to get boxing on track.

Re: Morales tested positive for a banned substance.
Nobody knows for sure yet and the B sample wont even be ready until after the fight. The reason people are suggesting that it might be Clenbuterol is because Morales is talking about tainted meat. The same reason given by a bunch of soccer players from the Mexican National tournament and they were acquitted. Apparently over a hundred players in an under 17 tourney in Mexico had the same thing happen so he could get away with it if it turns out to be that diuretic.

Your on here reading, that takes time!
Anyway, this shows how lazy you are... It says clenbuterol in the link in the very first post of this thread;D and dont try and say its an update and you didnt see it originally because it said that when I first posted in this thread:rolleyes:

I don't.
I'm a Morales fan but here's my dilemma. First I do find it hard to believe that Morales would taint his career at this stage. I mean 28 years in the sport. However he was overweight on the first weigh in and then was allowed to bring his own scale so combined with the random test it does stink a little bit. Did he use Clenbuterol because if he got caught he'd have an angle to get out of it or should it actually turn out to be Clenbuterol did he take it innocently through a food source?? Imo he will be acquitted if that's what drug it is because of the 2 precedent setting cases.

I don't per-say have anything against Morales, I'm just not a fan and I don't see anything extra special about him as a fighter. With or without the banned substance, this will be a blow out for Garcia.
If Morales keeps his word, this will be his last fight, I certainly hope so.

I think he's one of the best Jr featherweights/feather that ever lived. 1st ballot hall of famer and deserving so. I watched and embellish his career. You seem to focus on his last three years.

Re: Morales tested positive for a banned substance.
LOL wasnt it clenbuterol ? Weight loss drug, makes your body heat up so u can burn fat during the day. Usually it doesnt enhance performance but does the opposite. It will help you lose fat but make u feel like shit while on it.

Re: Morales tested positive for a banned substance.
Morales hasnt done his rep much good this weekend getting blown away in rounds and getting caught cheating but if he retires now it wont really affect his legacy.
Garcia has taken his game to a new level. Thats same time left hook is a lethal weapon.

Garcia isn't a slick boxer but has a good chin and good power. I'm warming to him
What I thought was impressive was even though Morales was almost spun round with that hook he was actually turning back towards Garcia before crashing.
