Mayweather Tops List Of The World's 100 Highest-Paid Athletes
A bit old (June 2012 but here you go)
Mayweather Tops List Of The World's 100 Highest-Paid Athletes - Forbes
There’s a reason they call boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. “Money.” He fought twice during the past 12 months, knocking out Victor Ortiz in September and winning a unanimous decision in May against Miguel Cotto. He spent less than one hour in the ring to dispatch his two foes.
His combined payday for the bouts: $85 million.
That helped make Mayweather the world’s highest-paid athlete over the past year, unseating Tiger Woods, who has been the top-earner since 2001. Woods ranks third this year with earnings of $59.4 million.
Mayweather maximizes his earnings by also acting as his own fight promoter through his company Mayweather Promotions. He collects all of the revenue from tickets, pay-per-view and sponsorships and covers the costs, including the purse for his opponent. His take home per fight is typically at least 50% higher than what his rival Manny Pacquiao earns.
Being a wildly polarizing figure doesn’t seem to have hurt his earnings. He charmed old ladies as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars in 2007 and provoked outrage with his racially charged, hate-filled rant against Pacquiao in 2010. His antics create buzz, and the result is both boxing fans and people who are normally indifferent to the sport pay up for his bouts. He has been a part of the four biggest non-heavyweight PPV events in boxing’s history. The Cotto fight generated $94 million in PPV receipts.

Good that a boxer is top but bad that it has to be him.

Re: Mayweather Tops List Of The World's 100 Highest-Paid Athletes
Mayweather is a dick but he's the greatest boxer to come along in a long time. Maybe the best of all time.

Re: Mayweather Tops List Of The World's 100 Highest-Paid Athletes
When I first head about this I sort of figured it wasn't including sponsors, but thinking more I'd imagine it wouldn't matter. 85 million in one year is incredible for any athlete to have made, and to think it was just for the 2 fights.
I wonder if that's as much as any athlete in history has made over 12 months:confused: My guess would be maybe a Michael Shumacer or Tiger Woods would have topped it slightly in years past, but then you think about the number of events they actually partake in and how much they would have to travel etc. Mayweather's made that for less than an hours work without leaving town, pretty insane.

He's one hell of a fighter! As someone said, he deserve every penny!
Alot of rumors goin on lately about 50 and Floyd.
Or is it 50 and ms jacksson nowadays? ;)
I'm not personally a fan of Floyd, he's attitude and how he acted up against the judge!
The whole money team is fishy!
Cheers

Re: Mayweather Tops List Of The World's 100 Highest-Paid Athletes
I have heard that 50 cents has parted with Floyd as he did not put his end of the money up. They may not be best friends any longer.

AL hayman and floyd will never split though. AL is the best in the business.

Re: Mayweather Tops List Of The World's 100 Highest-Paid Athletes
Floyd Mayweather doesn't deserve every penny. For fighting Ortiz? For figting Cotto half a decade past his sell by date? Floyd is canny, but he isn't value for money in the slightest. I hope he ends up like Holyfield. That would teach him for conning the public into these stupid fights. KO by sucker punch? Pathetic. He should have had his pay docked for that nonsense.

Hating on a certain name only give them a certain fame

My hating has never enriched Mayweather and sucker punches are poor value for money. Most sensible people would agree, Mayweather is looking somewhat ring worn now too. The Cotto fight was actually very close and Mayweather looked for the easy way out against Ortiz.
He isn't looking all that great at all these days.

Re: Mayweather Tops List Of The World's 100 Highest-Paid Athletes
I do hate Floyd but you have to admire his skills. He took Cotto on at his weight with no catch weight so he gets my respect for that performance.
-
Re: Mayweather Tops List Of The World's 100 Highest-Paid Athletes
I kind of agree with you but you forogt all the positive things he bring to boxing!
For example, Just bein the number one paid athletic gives boxing millions of viewers.
I'm not a fan as I said earlier but Floyd might get the same reputation as sugar ray Leonard...
Man i get alot of haters on me now, but for real nobody really knows!
Regards. Xweetie

He is the best boxer you have seen? Floyd was very good at the smaller weights, but for years now he has been picking and choosing and ducking and diving. The man is a fraud. You cannot say someone is the best you have ever seen if he doesn't play the game and Floyd doesn't play the game, he does it his way and it all about money rather than greatness. Hatton at WW, overweight against Marquez, Ortiz suckerpunch, Cotto close, DLH occasional pot shot and run, the Manny run around. It's a nonsense really. That's the best you have ever seen? He is not all that and he is half shot and knows it.

Re: Mayweather Tops List Of The World's 100 Highest-Paid Athletes
Its only my opinion but yes hes the best boxer ive seen, theres noway i believe hes running from pacman and ortiz deserved what he got come on man he tryed to stick the nut on mayweather. Also i just dont think the cotto or DLH fights were remotely close.
-
Re: Mayweather Tops List Of The World's 100 Highest-Paid Athletes
Also yea mayweathers on the slide now but even an 80% mayweather is still way to much for anyone in boxing right now.
-
Re: Mayweather Tops List Of The World's 100 Highest-Paid Athletes
If you believe what you believe then that is cool, but I have a very hard time seeing it that way. There are too many holes in Floyd for me to respect his higher weight resume and it is tough to give full credit to one who ducks and dodges like Floyd does.
Also if he isn't ducking Pac, then why doesn't the fight happen? Manny has agreed to everything now. Or why not Martinez at 154? Floyd doesn't fight because he is done. He will end up fighting Guerrero at a 150 CW, get a close points win, and then moan for 2 years about not getting any respect.

I agree that was a sucker punch, Mayweather showed how ruthless he can be and as a fighter although i consider him an amazing talent I lost some respect for him that fight as a fighter. There was no need to do that, Ortiz was right in front of him and it was obvious he wasn't ready. Cortez didn't help matters but no surprise there. I understand during a fight a boxer will have a lot going through his head but Mayweather is experienced enough that he could have let the fight get going. He wanted an early night, I still think Ortiz at his best could have caused Mayweather problems bullying him against the ropes and rushing him but as the saying goes rules are rules and Mayweaher got away with it. Ortiz was stupid to put the nut in, he wasted an opportunity of a lifetime. I was just disappointed with it all more than anything and i'm sure it's the same for most.
As for the crazy amount of money he earned, can't really knock it. I wouldn't say no, I doubt any of his family will have to work again for a long, long time and who wouldn't like to be in a position to take advantage of that opportunity. As long as people go to these events and PPV does well athletes will always earn ridiculous amounts of money.

Hate on Floyd all you want, but its genuine superstars like him and Pacquaio who have carried boxing on their backs for the last few years. Boxing is in hard shape right now.

Retard! There is a lot more to boxing than a semi retired muppet ducker.
Floyd is retired! You must be in hibernation.

No, I don't care about that. Maywether is a fraud because of what he does. I simply tell my truth.

Re: Mayweather Tops List Of The World's 100 Highest-Paid Athletes
Those are some big purses, Mayweather had to beat a lot of women to get the one he wanted.
:P
