Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Sky sports are showing this one tonight, it will be interesting to see how Bute will perform after the Froch KO. I was surprised he moved up to lightheavyweight especially taking on a puncher like Grachev. Although Grachev has limited boxing skills, he comes forward a lot and does put on the pressure. He was losing against Sillakh but he was always in the fight IMO. He is a strong fighter and if he can survive the early and middle rounds you never know he could test Bute' chin.
Im expecting Bute to start quick though, hes going to have to be busy to keep Grachev at bay IMO. If he knocks down Grachev and overwhelms him I reckon there could be a TKO for Bute, Bute will want this over as quickly as possible IMO. The longer it lasts the greater chance Grachev has of coming into the fight IMO.
I wouldnt rule out Grachev stopping Bute though, that was a big KO Loss against Froch and you never know if Bute could be damaged goods after that performance. I think tonight will be a decent test for him though and if he comes through in style it will set up the Froch rematch nicely.

Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
anybody know when this starts in the uk ? i know the program starts at 1am on sky but not too sure when the main event starts.
-
Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Taking on a bigger guy who is considered a puncher even with limited skills is a good, clever confidence builder. I don't know anything about this guy but at least he's not facing a guy with a losing record but he is inexperienced. Bute should win convincingly but after his last performance it's obvious anything can happen.

Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Zewski what a knockout !!!!!
-
Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Remember the name Zewski. That was an incredible shot.
-
Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
87 seconds in, he broke his nose with that uppercut. Good knockout, looking at Chavez though, hes a lightwelterweight and he moved up to 154 for this fight, he did look physically a lot smaller than Zewski. However, good knockout though and will look out for Zewski in the future.

He was a tad daft

Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Allan Green gets the win but he was knocked down in the fight. Any decent 175 fighter would beat Green, he can get hurt easily. He gets the win, St Juste retired on his stool.

Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
That was a really good fight better than I expecetd...
I'm getting ready to go out and just decided to put it on while I got ready.
Haven't even started getting ready. ;D
St. Juste did much better than what I thought he would do.

Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Bute got a small cut on his eye after the first.
-
Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
both fighters landing, Bute doesnt look too confident here. Its still early, but its getting interesting.
-
Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Bute got hurt in the 5th and went to the ropes, but landed a few solid shots at the end.
-
Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
This is not looking good for Bute. Even if he does get past this guy he's got less than no chance against Froch. Grachev could easily win this.
-
Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
stronger round from Bute in the 6th

I agree with that Froch would have him out again, so far this performance isnt impressive

Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
That right hand is finding Butes chin
-
Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Bute should get the nod if he gets through the 12th, theres nothing here Froch will be worried about. Bute needs to throw more punches, hes not been that good IMO.
-
Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Bute landed some good shots there in the 12th, that was his best round of the fight. He let his hands go a lot more, still not too impressed with that. He should get the nod here, but Froch will win in the rematch I have no doubts about that.

Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Bute gets the UD win here

Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Lol that 118/110 is hilarious. He must have scored the fight in the afternoon.
-
Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
I actually had the fight 117-111.
You have to admit that a "lot" of round were close. And while I find that Bute passed way too much time in the rope, Grachev never really land a big punch. But still, Bute never really shake him (except in the 12th round).
A lot of round were quite even in my opinion (Grachev was more aggresive, Bute landed more punch) but I ound the 115-113 scoring more off chart than 118-110.
Not a bad fight, but unless Grachev is really that tough, this isn't a good comeback for Bute and it doesn't look good for him for a Froch rematch.

I see the leaning but 118/110 is about 2 rounds away from a total wash. That simply didn't happen and I'm a huge Bute fan. Imo the 12thround won it for him. 115/113 is much more indicative of what I watched. Where was that 12th round Bute for the previous 33 minutes is anyone's guess. Grachev watched tape and mimicked him from the orthodox stance like a mirror image and Bute fell for it.

Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
athough im not doing a score collection for this fight...
i had Bute winning 115-113, Bute to me always seemed to be a round or 2 ahead
-
Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Sounds like Froch will dummy Bute once again. I'll be looking forward to it. My only concern was that Bute seemed to buzz Froch once or twice with counter-punches, so I'm still a bit wary of his power.
-
Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Even with Bute getting a 10-8 in the last round I did not have him winning the fight. he simply got outhustled and Grachev was very close to finishing him off a few times in the fight. But won 2,4,11, 12. Grachev outlanded him in most of the rounds if you look at the punch stats. (when they come out)

Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
Bute will get, KO by Froch again he will stop him very much like the first fight. Grachev was a very limited
boxer and he pushed Bute, and he looked at times he did not want to be in that ring.!
Froch should take the fight, it would be a good pay day, Carl has his number and he Knows it.
-
Froch made bute limited !
He woulda been fine if he didn't fight carl.
I'd say bute won't be much after froch rematch, I'd say bute would get retired by Abraham too
-
Bute has always been limited. Overrated and limited.

Agreed! But same as Lacy, everybody has him hyped up as the best in the division until he came over to the UK and got destroyed!

I agree, that card was ridiculous. It was a close fight, I think 115-113 Bute is a fair score.
Grachev's punches were doing more damage to Bute when they landed, although Bute was more accurate and landed more.
-
Froch wasn't impressed and he said he will give Bute another pasting if they fight again.
-
Re: Lucian Bute - Dennis Grachev thread
I think Bute needs another fight before he would even fancy his own chances against Froch but what I did see was that Bute in the final round was still strong and was the boss against a natural light heavy and was just getting back in to his stride.
If this had been the unbeaten Silakh that Bute beat would people be singing hos praises for beating someone that was being hyped? Bute just beat a strong dangerous opponent, coming off a very bad knockout loss. Give him a break, it wasnt a bad result. I dont think he beats Froch as Carl is too physical for him but id still be interested to see how Ward would look against that awkward southpaw stance and Butes genuine power. Bute may be better to try for a Ward match.

Good post. Fair and objective. I totally agree on another fight and like right away. Carl wont be effected by the crowd in Quebec like Bute was in Nottingham. Bute seemed to be falling under the pressure last night. He will be forced to fight Carl I'm afraid or be deported. I'm still puzzled as to why he went to 175 but maybe it was to prepare for the physical Froch as you pointed out.
-
I didn't get to catch the fight but from reading everything sounds like bute struggled some and took some punches but pulled it out in the end. He might never have the physicality to beat froch but I won't have anything but admiration for the dude if he gets in there with froch again. Also as someone else mentioned I really wouldn't mind seeing bute in with ward or anyone else for that matter, styles make fights and frochs might just always be wrong for bute.
