Is Broner's win over DeMarco Equal to Mayweather's win over Corrales?

Is Broner's win over DeMarco last weekend as big of a win as Mayweather's win over Corrales in 2001? I don't think DeMarco is as good as Corrales was in 2001. Your take?

HELL NO...Demarco is no where close to the level of a Corrales. Demarco is not even close to the same level as Genaro Hernandez. I am so tired of the media trying to make this kid the next Mayweather...aside from his mouth...he is not on the same level as Floyd in the respective stages of their career.

Shame on hbo for disrespecting the memory of the late Diego Corrales!

It's all , unfortunately, a business man...they are desperate to find another cash cow...so they will hype this kid any which way they can...even if it means hyping him beyond the point of reason. It's all part of the production.

What win of Floyd's does Broner's win over DeMarco compare to?

Corrales was a top pound for pound guy. His height, reach and power had a lot of people predicting that Floyd would get KOd.It was really close in the betting too. I don't think there's anybody about at 135 or 140 that you could match against Broner and say it was the equivalent of a Corrales test.

Not a chance - it wasn't even as masterful a performance as Floyd's performance was against a tougher opponent. He won every second of every round in that fight. Broner arguably let a couple of rounds slip in his fight with demarco.

Floyd at 25 fights was waaaay ahead of Broner in terms of opposition and skill in my opinion. Broner tries to fight like Floyd does now..where as Floyd younger let his hands go and also had good power at the lower weights. Even at 140, his power wasn't to be sniffed at.

The obvious comparisions are the shoulder roll and how Broner shoots the uppercut out from under that Philly shell when he counters. You want to see that done to perfection, then watch Floyd vs Jesus Chavez. Broner is good but still think he's a shameless, cheap knock off.

Broner looked great. So good I favor him over the 135 division. I hope he stay there for a few more fights.

Like most said, I don't think Demarco (who is a solid fighter) is on the same level as Corrales was in 2001. Corrales was also undefeated at 33-0 (27), so he hadn't yet been bested whereas Demarco had already been spanked by Valero.

I think Broner earns extra points by the way in which he won, though. He stood in the pocket with a dangerous banger and blasted him out, whereas Floyd utilized his movement.

i didnt really apreciate how good the mayweather performance over corrales was until a long time after it happened

perhaps it will be the same as with this fight

a lot of people are saying corrales was a lot better than demarco is

that could well be true but corrales is a legendary fighter because he is dead and because of the castilo fight and i think a lot of people will remember him with rose tinted glasses :)

Corrales was 6'1 and outweighed Floyd by at least 10lbs. Broner could afford to stay in the pocket with a guy who was smaller than he was. Let's see him do it at welterweight. Corrales was much more a banger than DeMarco.

No one said he was a "legendary" fighter...but he was a damn good one...WAY better than Demarco...and that has nothing to do with his death. At the time Mayweather fought him...Corrales was a top pound for pound fighter...something that Demarco is not close to being.

I think Broner is going to eclipse Floyd in every way. He's going to sell a lot of Broner caps and shirts, and he will wind up making more money over the length of his career. Hell he might even wind up with a Nike deal.

Didn't Valero TKO DeMarco?

Nah. Both long and lanky but in exposure and status Corrales was already entrenched, not to mention his much talked about his one punch ability to erase a face. Demarco had -just-received notice and even then it was talked down, wrongly I think, with a tko loss to Valero and needing to "pull it out" in comeback after sponging tons from Linares. Corrales was a steep level above.

I think likewise the more Broner gets compared to Mayweather the more he's going to regret playing such a cheap parody in the first place. Floyd had already displayed a %100 gameplan against respectable types by the time he played whacka' mole with the late Diego where this was the very first time Broner acted and executed in a high fashion. I believe so anyway. He most certainly toned it down vs Demarco and heard the backlash. I hope! Also he'll never be the backfoot fighter Mayweather is and he rides the pocket almost relying too much on counters. Upper body moving twice as quick as often wide planted legs. He gets touched alot for a guy so quick. Broner needs to be Broner. There are not any brothers from another mother here.

On paper I suppose not a chance. Chico was dominant. It's the timing. When Floyd fought Chico he was about to go to the big house to serve battery charges. You cant tell me that this did not effect a man like Corrales at the peak of his career.

Floyd was way faster at brokers age. Broner is as fast as the current Floyd. The only other fighter at the time of Floyd coming up that I saw similar speed in was Zab, I thought Zab had tremendous speed. Floyd in his 20's was on another level.

It's not even close.

Even IF that played a role in Corrales's performance...a distracted Diego at that time was still twice the fighter Demarco is. There is just no comparing Floyd's early career with Broner's...not only in terms of competition...but also in terms of skill. Again...Broner is very talented...and maybe he will live up to the hype and have a great career. But he is no Floyd...and that is perfectly ok.
