Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto - Saturday night fight/chat thread
:action: Good scrap tonight on HBO. Guerrero who's one of my favorite fighters might have bit off more then he can chew at Welterweight against the hard hitting Berto.
Nov. 24
At Ontario, Calif. (HBO): Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto, 12 rounds, for Guerrero's WBC interim welterweight title; Carlos Quintana vs. Keith Thurman, 10 rounds, junior middleweights.
I really hope Guerrero can pull this off, but I have my doubts, in any event, there should be some fireworks in this title fight.

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto Saturday night on HBO
I used to really like Guerrero. Then came that ridiculous period he went through calling everybody out, all the time, especially after pulling out of a fight with Maidana and not showing ANY interest what so ever of rearranging the fight. His PR guy made this situation worse for me, somehow getting my boxing related email, and always sending articles based on Guerrero calling someone out.
Would have brought a little smile to my face seeing him beat by Aydin, but he really sucked it up and got through that fight with the W. His win over Aydin has restored a good portion of my interest and I'll defo be watching this weekend. He should just let his boxing do the talking, as really got annoying back there. I think he can beat Berto, who mustn't have great stamina as he spends alot of time holding rather than fighting. Downside for Guerrero is that he does get hit, and I reckon Berto has fast hands and hits pretty hard. Can see Guerrero Pts and a Berto KO. Either way, should be a good fight.

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto Saturday night on HBO
This is a fight I've been waiting on for awhile. I like both fighters, but somebody gotta lose. Guerrero was fading his last fight but showed great heart and won. Its no quit in Berto. The power of Ortiz didn't stop him, so I don't think Guerrero can stop him. Outboxing someone with very fast hands is hard to do. So at some point in the fight, Guerrero is going to get caught. Hopefully is early!!!
The fact that both fighters know that a win can make them very wealthy in there next fight. And the loser will have to start from ground zero. ESPECIALLY BERTO!!!!
Berto by TKO 11th

I agree Mac, Guerrero "should just let his boxing do the talking", calling people out can backfire, just walk the walk in the ring. I'm a little surprised Guerrero took this tough fight so soon after moving up to WW, but maybe he knows WTF he's doing, I sure hope so. :-\

You all should check out the Maxboxing article on PED usage and Guerrero being forced to take this fight with USADA doing the testing, as opposed to VADA.

Why is that Rantcat, isn't it because Berto tested positive for PEDs before his rematch with Ortiz?
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto Saturday night on HBO
VADA caught Berto last time. Guerrero's people wanted VADA testing for this fight but Berto refused and only agreed to USADA, an organisation which has a seriously questionable relationship with Golden Boy who are now Berto's promoters. Draw your own conclusions. It's really worth reading those two PED articles.
I'm going to go way out on a limb and pick Berto to win this weekend.

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto Saturday night on HBO
Got a really great gift for my bday to go sit down ringside for this one, Im gonna go and sit for the entire card and milk it.
Personally I think it could go either way, Guerrero is a warrior and should have a height and reach advantage on Berto but if Bertos catches him it could be lights out for the Ghost. If the ghost can make the final bell I think he can take a points decision with effective punching and ring generalship...if Berto catches him itll be sometime in the 6th.

Thats the only way to do it when seeing live fights. Happy Birthday !

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto Saturday night on HBO
This is a fight I would love to watch, I have always like Berto with his fast martial art hands but his development has certainly been stalled with fights falling through against Shane, loss to Ortiz and drugs appeals. I hope he can pull it off but Guerrero seems fearless considering he fought at the lower weights. It will be very interesting who wins as they would have a good case to be Floyds next opponent.
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto Saturday night on HBO
To be honest I hate to pick a winner for this fight and that means I'm gonna enjoy it. I hate fights in which the winner really is a forgone conclusion (looking at you Demarco Broner) but I guess I would lean towards Guerrero as he is taller and he does pop his jab. Berto will have power on his side and he's not exactly slow either but I think Guererro is more solidly built as a fighter.

Robert Guerrero: Andre Berto Has A Soft Chin

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Guerrero has had exactly one fight at welterweight and fought a basically untested guy. He's fighting somebody who can really punch at the weight. If anybody's chin is getting tested it's Guerrero's.
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto - Saturday night fight/chat thread
I think Guerrero has the superior edge in ring smarts and adaptability and has it in him to take this. Berto was and still is a very flawed boxer who makes alot of mistakes. Fast hands are great but he has always been very top heavy and stiff legged. He should gun for a ko but I think if Robert avoids that inside grab and maul tussle that Berto does after he leaps in with one-twos he can box his way to a w.12.

What it kinda boils down to is whether or not Guerrero can handle Berto's power, Robert is cocky and full of piss and vinegar, but can he take what Berto dishes out? That's the question, if he can, I agree, he wins a decision.

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto - Saturday night fight/chat thread
With the peds Berto will be on :o , Berto should dominate.
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto - Saturday night fight/chat thread
I'll pick Berto. He's the much bigger man and he's got something to prove after the Ortiz fight and subsequent steroid controversy.

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Berto-Guerrero, Thurman-Quintana weigh-in:
(I strongly suggest muting the sound)

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto - Saturday night fight/chat thread
BTW, Guerrero looked confident at the weigh-in, but then so do a lot of pugs. :-X
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Robert has the better boxing brain by far and Berto has the speed along with sharp punching.I just remember how much Aydin caught him and he's a turtle compared to Berto. The difference between Berto and Aydin is that Berto is going to catch Robert with punches he does not see coming.Unless Robert can hurt Berto I think he's getting stopped.
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto - Saturday night fight/chat thread
It's a contest of power against guile and I have never really been all that impressed with Berto. He never seems to improve or show anything new. I'm supporting Guerrero. Guerrero has the smarts and the nouse, but he will get hit and it's all about keeping to the gameplan once he has been tagged. If he can stay smart, he can get a decision.
-
Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto - Saturday night fight/chat thread
In the co-main event I like Keith Thurman and he's got a good puzzle in front of him with Quintana who looked good the last time saw him.
Quintana can be prone to getting stopped early like in the Paul Williams rematch and the pasting he took from Cotto.
When I first saw Thurman I didn't want to like him as he is another cocky prospect, but I see a touch of vulnerability and honesty in his bravado the way Fernando Vargas used to be.
If Thurman's power is for real then he should be able to get Quintana outta there early, but if he doesn't then it could be a looooong night with that tricky, herky jerky lil bastard.

Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face
Robert got caught by punches he knew were coming against Aydin. Its the punches you don't see and I think he is going to be blind sided. Berto's chin is a little dodgy and that's his only hope.

Either I am getting excited for this one, this will be my first fight sitting on the floor and Im sure these two will not disappoint.

This is a fight I was thinking about going to, it's right down the street form my son's place in Ontario where I'll be for Thanksgiving, but I decided to spend the time with the family instead.
The big question in this fight is if Guerrero can stay away from Berto's big punches. I think he can, he's a champion now and was one before, plus I think his boxing IQ is higher than Berto's.
I want Guerrero to win this one, but it could go the other way fast.

Both look fit as Hell. I do worry about Guerrero trying to out macho aka stand in and negate boxing vs Berto. He has the tools but he must box a guy who is there to be boxed. Straight line punching messes up Berto and leaves him resetting in past but keeping it real we're talking about a guy who gets sucked into scraps, Guerrero, and has risen two divisions. Bertos best bet is to jump him...go slugger. I still pick The Ghost on cards and coming off the mat to do so.
On a side not Abita Christmas batch in the fridge!! Chug a lug ;D

High Stakes in Berto vs. Guerrero:

BTW, a couple of you lads mentioned (Spicoli & Kirkland, I believe) a brew called Abita? So yesterday I bought a 6 pk. of Abita Amber in 12 oz. bottles and will give it a shot during tonight's fights and let you know what I think. P.S. I just read the label and see that this beer is brewed in Abita Springs, Louisiana, German coon-ass brew eh? ;)

Ding farking ding :feedme: Pulling hard for Guerrero! I've always thought Berto was a half developed rushed guy.
Just realized again how much I'd like to see Thurman meet the canvas

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Here we go Saddoites, Lampley and Kellerman calling the action for HBO WCB, 2 good fights, first up Carlos Quintana vs. Keith Thurman, 10 rounds, junior middleweights. I believe it all depends on which version of Quintana shows up tonight, the one who beat Paul Williams in their first fight should take care of business, the Quintana who fought Cotto gets his ass handed to him.
Just finished my first Abita Amber, nothing to write home about, but not bad either.

Re: Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto - Saturday night fight/chat thread
I had a Christmas ale a few years ago and it was like a Christmas cake in a glass. No idea who brewed it though. Good test for Thurman here.
