Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
Yes we enjoyed number 4 but why should we want to see number 5..?
Manny was showing promise but its the same old thing..no defense and no footwork.
Marquez needs to move on and see what he can do in the welterweight divison..
Manny came back well but it seemed as though marquez was ready for a tear up.

Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
Marquez has beat the guy 4 times now. Why a 5th?

Exactly.
But there will be excuses in the week to come ryanman,
They will go like this:-
1. Marquez is on roids.
2. Manny has past it.
3. Manny is too busy with election stuff.
4. Manny had cramps.
5. Mayweather will now fight manny as hes a coward
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
Well said Ryan. Marquez has boxed the pants off Manny for 36 rounds and now settled it by destroying Pac worse than Pac could ever dream of destroying anyone else. There were no question marks with an ending as clear cut as that.
There is no need for a 5th fight. Arum might want it, but he knows that it is the only fight with true meaning now that his stock has dropped after yet another questionable showing. Bradley 2? Boring and won't sell.
It was a great fight, but it would be wonderful if for once a fighter finished on a high. Marquez should have a send off in Mexico and then sail off into the sunset. He is a smart man and I hope he realises the dueling with Manny has been punctuated with a supersize full stop.
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
That was it for Marquez ... 39 years old and finally got the satisfying KO over Pac
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
I can think of at least one other reason - two of the finest boxers of our generation deserve the payday. Also, when was the last great quintology?
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
I hope he fights and is able to KO Brandon Rios. He should be able to with no problems but you know how boxing is...full of surprises.
-
Its a shame bradley has no appeal.
He must feel very lost in all of this!
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
SRR vs Lamotta. 5 exciting fights. I'll say this much though if there will be a 5th both will be shot to hell (as if they aren't already)
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
No need to see a 5th for me. It was a great end to a great series of fights. Poor Bob Arum , both his cash cows (Pac & JCC jr) are coming off loses. What is he gonna do now:confused:
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
In this fight you could say, justice had been done after 3 very close fight, an out right winner you
have to agree a KO leaves us with Marquez.
All the talk about Floyd V Pacman, both fighters missed the boat on this one, us fans lost out on a great
fight , and no mega pay day for both fighters .;)
-
Pac should avenge his loss to bradley first

I would be completely okay with this:

Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
Why not ?
Every time these guys face off we get a quality fight and every fight has had a different result.

I think 4 fights, is enough for any one this time you could not argue who the winner was, you could
see both fighters did not want, it left to the judges sweet right hand on the button.!:)

Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
No need for a 5th. JMM vs Bradley would be great and Pac vs Paulie for a soft touch.

I was thinking about him fighting Rios earlier, it's a fight he should win but wouldn't surprise me if after such a great performance against Pac he then lost...then what? would make it even harder to walk away.
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
The only reason I see for a 5th match now would be if Pacman got revenge and Maweather stayed unbeaten it would once again become the must see fight for the world again.
The thing every boxing fan was afraid of has happened. Pac vs Mayweather constantly avoiding each other, Pac has now lost twice, once by devastating KO, he has lost his aura of (close to) invincibility. Now there is not so much excitement surrounding the fight.
Oh well it's something the can regret when they are long retired and they realise they could have left a huge historical foot print on the world.

Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
I don't see any reason for why there can't be a fifth fight. It's been a terrific series. Every single fight has been great. However, that's if Manny continues to fight. In my opinion, Manny should retire. It appears that he is done as an elite fighter. He's made his money and fought great fights.
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
no point for 5 JMM already proved he is the better Man period.
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
Its all up to JMM. He could easily retire on a high and very loud note now. If he agrees to a 5th he would only give Pac a chance at revenge and then sending this saga into an even longer run.
I think at this point, its easy to close the book with that chapter because after all that violence only the brave would want to continue.

that's true. If he could walk away now it would be the perfect moment. I wouldn't mind seeing him fight again win or lose. He's already a living legend and nothing will change that. The dude is 40!

:o Crazy aint it, good time to retire, maybe one farewell fight in Mexico would be good. Not such a hard fight so he can enjoy occasion. He deserves it.

I disagree.
Pac can make a load of money still fighting and he can prove he can bounce back.
Did old marquez retire after the last bout? No. He sucked it up and carried on like a warrior.
Pac showed he was still his usual dangerous self last night and he had me worried after he knocked down marquez...but marquez threw the picture perfect sugar ray robinson counter punch that was a beautiful thing to behold.
Pacs power is still there so is his speed.
He needs to beat bradley and another solid welterweight to get a shot at marquez again.

Well said.

Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
JMM just removed the biggest question mark from his career and legacy. No reason for him to fight Pac again. Nothing to gain, only lose. If he does it, it is for the money and fans.
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
Well Pacquiao may want to try avenge this loss, so thats a reason for pac-jmm 5 from his perspective. I think the same would happen again though. Marquez could always hit Pac, so this powered up version will most likely get the KO each time. But for Marquez, why risk it?
I'd like this JMM to fight Mayweather.

I don't think he needs to beat anybody. People will pay to see an immediate rematch. It'll do over a million PPV buys again and it'll sell out any stadium they put it in. Arum could turn it into a massive event by putting it in Cowboys Stadium. It might even make more money than the fight last night.
I'm sure Manny wants it and I don't think JMM will turn it down if he gets a bigger chunk of the split.
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
I thought that fight number 4 was already excessive as did many others here. But I think last night was a suitable end to this story. Marquez has done enough and should leave on a high. No need to make these two fight over and over again.
Pacquiao need not retire just yet. Hes a bit younger and still has enough skill for some good fights against OTHER opponents. A fight with Mayweather is better at this point, even though less intriging, then an unnecessary repeat with Marquez.
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
No need. If anything Marquez has more than earned the repsect to close this book and put it on his shelf of legacy. He has arguably gotten better with each fight and capped it off with an ending that usually comes in the beginning of a long fight series and then results in a second, third...but not a 5th. This was a progression. In its own way somewhat of an accumulation spread over bouts. Outboxed boxed him last time...knocked him cold this time.
I have the utmost respect for Manny. The name it self polarizes people as well as transcends the sport. But he needs to sit down and think...decide if he is the fierce force and can bring back the manic-Manny that he once was and walks foes down. Honestly, if anything after the last three fights..he needs to earn it back! Start with Bradley. Screw money and what he'll 'draw'. Fans need to stop playing fighter accountants. Pac needs to do it for him and only him. Put that beating on that you should have in the first place. Delete it and reset.

Your just sad pavlik.
Grow up.
Theres no need to use those terms.
I saw positives in the fight for pac and rather than ridicule its always best to support.
As a mayweather fan of course part of me was glad that JMM won because i never thought pac was on floyds level anyway.

Marquez wasn't brutally stopped. I'm not sure he can come back from that.
Pac showed he was still his usual dangerous self last night and he had me worried after he knocked down marquez...but marquez threw the picture perfect sugar ray robinson counter punch that was a beautiful thing to behold.
Pacs power is still there so is his speed.
Explain how his power is still there. He hasn't had a knockout in years. I agree his speed is still there.
He needs to beat bradley and another solid welterweight to get a shot at marquez again.
Why does he need to prove anything?
He lost his last two fights. He's secured his legacy already. He's made a ton of money in the game. However, most significantly, he suffered a monstrous knockout last night. That was a Sergio Martinez-Paul Williams type of knockout. I'm not sure he can come back from that, even if he wanted to. Time will tell though.

Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
Don't forget, in the last 3 fights Manny Pacquiao was the man. After the weekend, JMM is now THE MAN...
So, I'm sure Marquez can think of about 20-odd million reasons for Pac vs JMM 5 ;)
It was a fitting finale, especially in the eyes of the fans but we're just watching at home so it's easier for us to say "let's close the book now". I wouldn't begrudge Marquez if he chose to make that 8 figure payday.
-
Re: Marquez vs pacman 5..why?
Pac Man should avenge his defeats against Bradley then JMM in 2013.

Why a rematch all the other fights ended in controversial decisions. There was no controversy here , there would be no talk of this if Pac had KO'd JMM.

Nice slight of JMM accomplishment. If he is done it is because JMM has done him in. Pac was winning the fight convincingly until JMM caught him flush. Manny showed up in elite form for the fight! No more excuses from Pac followers please .....

Not sure about that. They did a poll yesterday at Showtime before the Nonito vs Travieso fight and more than 73% were voting for a 5th fight:rolleyes:.
