What is your favourite maneuver/ punch?

Between the two of em, it must take an amazing depth of anticipation and confidence to be able to land those punches with as much commitment to power to actually drop your opponent so I wonder - what is your favourite punch/ maneuver?

I don't mean just an ordinary punch like say, just a jab etc but for example Wladimir Kitschko slapping a southpaw jab before jabbing back with his own is undeniably effective.

I like how Marquez has consistently been able to counter orthodx jabs with an lead uppercut, which in itself is a rare punch but with him, it's pretty much a thing of beauty... However his right hand against Pacquiao was thrown with such commitment and intent it just blew me away. What a punch.

What about some of the older fighters? I'm sure Hagler had a plethora of little tricks.

Tyson? Wow.

I love throwing the counter right, but the check hook is a bit harder to set up for me.

That Susi Q from Marciano was a sweet shot after being clubbed half to death by Walcott. Jersey Joe just getting ready to throw his own right and boom.

Jackson vs Graham was a classic. I actually thought Graham was dead. To generate that kind of power from that position was remarkable

It took JMM 4 fights and 42 rounds to land that punch. FLoyd timed Hatton in 10 rounds.

Cotto is another one - when he's under fire on the inside he has this nice little sort of overhand left hook that he sets up.

I would say Zab Judah but I think that one isn't quite subtle enough.

I actually enjoyed the Marquez knockdown in round 3. I know it didn't lay Manny out, but it echoed around the arena. You could hear the smack on tv, and the look of shock on Pacquiao's face was awesome. I think the fact it came out of nowhere was what added to the enjoyment.

If your punch has a name then it's usually pretty solid: Marciano's Suzy Q, Kid Gavilan's Bolo Punch, Ruddock's Smash.

The 45 (Smash) or hook/uppercut hybrid a lot of fighters have used is quite a devistating punch and everyone from De la Hoya to Roy Jones Jr. have used it.

I never liked James Toney but I liked his roll and counter uppercut which is one of the more basic moves you can use from that style of defense.

I also like the hook uppercut combo PLENTY of fighters have used that: Marciano, Tyson, Bert Cooper, etc. Rocky would throw a left to the head and then follow through with an uppercut because if you tagged the guy with the hook his head would be right there when the uppercut came through OR if the guy ducks the hook he's headed straight for the uppercut. Cooper & Tyson would dig to the body to draw the guard down and then blast an uppercut right up the middle causing for some pretty vicious KO's


As for what I liked using in the ring myself...a feint right cross and a big left hook. It works once you've set up the 1-2 and it allows you to load up on the hook due to how your body moves. Jab, over exaggerate the right cross to the point where you're weight is mostly on your left leg and then press off and your opponent's defense should be still braced for the cross giving you a clean shot at their head from the side. After I land that, I can usually press my opponent against the ropes and go to work. Also you can use it a number of times, just because you load up for the left hook doesn't mean you have to throw it....it gives you time to judge your opponent's reactions and decide whether or not to use the punch.

Nah he landed it in their second fight. Just didn't knock him out, wobbled him.

I think both were beautifully timed shots..you see how close Pacquiao's shot was to Marquez's face when he slipped and shot over that right hand to knock Pacquiao out. Beautiful. Pac's elbow was literally scraping JMM's face.

I love seeing the slow mo replays of Floyd rounds when you just think he's getting pummelled against the ropes only to see that in between he has snuck a right hand in there or an uppercut. vs Cotto was one example and Oscar De La Hoya I think round 5 it was when Floyd wobbled him. I had no idea what had happened or why the hell Oscar was wobbling briefly until the slow mo's. Such impeccable timing.

Also the pull back to avoid opponents jab, immediate counter right hand and then the immediate duck under his opponents offence is impressive from Floyd too. He did it vs JMM.

The right hand generates most power for most of us right handed people but it is difficult to land and time right. Hearns was one of the best with it.

This is why the left hook gets the most knock outs as the opponent does not see it and it travels less distance generally like Tyson or Chavez to the body.

Uppercuts are even more harder to get them to land like Bute does.

The shoulder roll followed by a counter right is my favorite manuever, specifically how Toney used to do it on people.

I know its not really a set "maneuver" or "move" but watching Chris Byrd making people miss him up close in the pocket was always amazing

He would contort his body and duck and dodge punches like it was nothing ... making giant, powerful heavyweights miss

Sure JMM has landed the punch, but not to the perfection he did on Saturday.

I'm a big fan of the left hook to the liver. I believe Hatton has knocked out and been knocked out by this punch.

I love Floyd Patterson's flying left hooks and his left hooks in general. Like the one he landed on Archie Moore.

That's exactly what I was going to mention. The "Body Uppercut" as I call it...is my favorite combo. Lands damn near every time I see somebody throw it. Add Tommy Morrison to the list. He also threw that combo a lot. In the early rounds he was tearing Mercer up with that combo. Unfortunately for Morrison...Mercer had a iron jaw. Anyway back on topic here's a gif of Tyson
