Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
I just saw the updated list and one name on it sticks out like a sore thumb.
Adrian Broner at #5
now if that was Robert Guerrero I still would have raised an eyebrow but at least he fought somebody. What in gods name is Broner doing ahead of Donaire, Wlad/Vitali, hell even Tim Bradley?
What the freaking hell is going on?
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
IMO Broner is a better fighter than Donaire and those guys, but I agree with you that his accomplishments thus far don't warrent him being above them.
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
I could have said way back in the day RJJ was gonna be top P4P but it is a list essentially based upon your accomplishments not what you can theoretically achieve. I love the reasoning too, he beat 14 bums by KO and because of that and beating a slow 'champ' with glaring defensive liabilities warrants his placement.
Say what you want about Donaire but god damn he's beaten legit tough opposition. Say what you want about Wlad and Vitali but when was the last time in YEARS that they even lost a round? Say what you want about Bradley (he lost to Pacquaio by the way) but at least he had far better opposition than Broner. Sigh this just riles me up is all.
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
I think Gennady Golovkin might be the goods too, but he isn't in the top ten.
-
Who owns Ring Magazine?
Who promotes Broner?
There's your answer.
Also, who doesn't promote Donaire, Klitchkos and Bradley, etc...

I have no doubt that Broner will be in the running for P4P honors one day but not now.
-
Yeah I was sitting at work and saw that and I was just thinking wtf...joke
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
Their Belt and P4P list mean a lot less now that they are ownedby a promtional company.
Broner at FIVE?!
-
Is Car Froch in the top 10...I think he should be
job biscuit (deffo)!!!
eh eh!!!
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
I did a quick P4P list yesterday but I wasn't satisfied with it. So here's my updated version.
PBF
Ward
JMM
Sergio
Nonito
Pac
Bradley
Mares
Wladdy
Froch
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
Froch? Don't get me wrong I love the man because he fights anyone anywhere and more often than not he wins. I'd put him in number 10 if he wins againt Kessler for sure.
As for me I agree with the rest, though I would put Wlad over Mares (damn lowblowing bastard....) and put replace Froch with Vitali
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
When did Oscar and company elect Al Haymon to the rankings board. Man. That's really just terrible. These dumb asses REALLY do think he is Floyd :p
p4p is really just a hollow marketing tool now. I haven't bought a copy of Ring in at least four years.
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
I have another problem with the list besides Broner that no one mentioned.
...Why is Pacquiao still on the list? Don't get me wrong, I still think hes one of the top 5 best guys in the sport in terms of his in-ring ability, but like everyone has been saying it's about accomplishment.
Pac is coming off of two official losses, the latest obviously being a vicious KO loss. I don't care how good you are, the top 10 p4p list should be reserved for guys who are currently at the top. If you're coming off of back to back losses, you shouldn't even qualify for top 10.
Why is he ranked over the Klitschko bros, who have ruled their division without a loss for 8 years or more? Or an undefeated guy who beat him just two fights ago (regardless of whether the decision was right or wrong, Bradley got the nod).
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
I see BoxRec has Pac at 15 P4P.. a slight over-correction
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
The funny thing is that he was not even ranked in his weight division for the Ring and now he is #5 p4p. Wow
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
P4P is a favourite list today holding no historical significance or basis in fact.
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
The Ring has destroyed what was left of it's credibility with it's lastest rankings.
Adrien Broner has excellent potential, but he's not yet proven himself to be top 10 P4P, let alone top 5.
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
Floyds ranked 1 and has fought about 4 times in 6 years. This shit term is hilarious.

@Second2None regardless of how it happened or wether you like the decision he does officially have a win over Pac. So he has to be there. However the win itself and the way it happened does not merit him a top sport for me which is why I put him that low.
I'd like to see what your list looks like.
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
Broner in the top 5? lol top 10? nope . Maybe in the top 20. Other then Broner being there, it is a good list. I think ring magazine is forgetting the Broner vs Ponce De leon fight

No way. Froch has beaten Pascal, Taylor, Johnson, Dirrell, Abraham and Bute.
Vitali, as dominating as he has been, has beaten a load of puddings.
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
I still have the same top 5
Pac
JMM
PBF
Donaire
Sergio
not in order ;) I just don't see how these guys can not be in the top 5 considering their whole career and capabilities.

Didn't they have Mayweather and Pac "co" p4p number ones? Who was nine and ten last ranking who were dropped?

Agree, but to an extent. My list its pretty much identical to yours only problem its that I would probably have rigondeaux instead of bradley.

No fan of Mares here but lemme get this right...you can win a tournament and two titles within a year, remain undefeated and come off a clear win over one of the better boxers in the game and get dropped for a kid with arguably one meaningful win on his record ??? Wasn't Moreno on a p4p list himself?
This is obviously not what have you accomplished but what you might and how loud can you get Jim lungs Lampley to bellow and yell about you. What an absolute charade. Ring...you fail

I was ok with you saying Bradley possibly didn't belong in there that is until you said you'd have Rigondeaux then you just lost me... :-\
Before Rigon there's still guys like Guerrero, Devon and even Viloria whos a 2 division title holder has a better case at P4P then Rigon... But that's just my opinion.

Both Mares & Moreno were P4P when they fought...
It's fucken nuts what they have done here.

Really blows my mind. Horrible parlor games and bad precedent by THE Bible of boxing, at one time. This week they are no better than the alphabet boys in my eyes.

Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
I stopped giving a fuck about what Ring magazine thinks awhile back. This just confirms I was right in making that choice. Broner at number 5 is one of the worse journalism blow jobs I ever seen in my life.
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
Once Burns drops Broner he'll be off that list anyways.
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
Dougie's Friday mailbag | RingTV
Apparently almost all the guys in the office over there agree that he's way too high and the big daddy boss is just sucking on some golden cock, excuse the crassness. I don't know if this redeems them or just makes the whole thing sadder.
-
Re: Ring Magazine New top 10 P4P
I think it is horrible what has happened to The Ring.
The guys who run it have no credibility, with these ridiculous decisions.
It was once the most respected belt in the industry, not it is just another alphabet title or the Goldenboy belt.
Top Rank should create their own belt too, so we can be like the WWE with a Goldenboy champion and a Top Rank champion.
