Most one-sided upset of all time?
I'm not talking about the fights where the underdog scores a KO on a "lucky punch" or anything like that.
I'm talking about fights where the big underdog absolutely dominated the favorite in a way that would suggest that the underdog was CLEARLY the better fighter going in and make the oddsmakers say "WTF was I thinking."
Thinking along the lines of a Jeff Lacy/Joe Calzaghe situation, where the underdog just eats the favorite's soul in the ring.

Re: Most one-sided upset of all time?
I'll be honest, one time I was left jaw to the floor was when Hopkins schooled Pavlik. He ruined a top fighter, exposed him and made him look like nothing. I thought Hopkins had bit off more than he could chew at his age against a young, hungry puncher.
Wongjongkam getting stopped by a guy with a losing record recently was a massive shock and is probably the upset of 2012.

Re: Most one-sided upset of all time?
Pac Dominating Barrrera was a big shock at the time

That's a great example, I can't believe I forgot that one. Bhop ate his heart.

Re: Most one-sided upset of all time?
Pacquiao dominating Oscar was stunning too. I never saw that coming at all.
I'd also add Mosley beating the crap outta Margarito, just a stunning performance.

No, when Oscar came in so light it was just when would he be stopped but even then Pacquaio couldnt put him down or away. Oscar just quit.
Mosley is a steroid cheat, fuck him! Stop giving him props for being a dirty cunt.

Re: Most one-sided upset of all time?
Holyfield was a 20-1 underdog in his 1st fight with Tyson, and hardly anyone was giving Evander a chance. We should have known better, Holyfield had the heart of a lion and whipped Mike like a redheaded step-child.
Douglass - Tyson was also a huge upset that was for the most part dominated by Buster.
Least we forget Dempsey vs Willard back in the day, nobody thought Jack had a prayer.
Like Mark Twain said: “It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.”

Holyfield didnt completely dominate, Tyson still wan a fair few rounds. Douglas Tyson the same and Mike had him out on his ass too.

Bullshit. I'm not buying that you thought a fucking 1 fight lightweight would stop Oscar. Not a chance you saw that coming.
Yes Mosley is a steroid cheat, but he tested clean for that fight, and it was against a guy planning to use loaded gloves on him.

Considering that both Holyfield & Douglass were huge underdogs who dished out a beating to Tyson, and then knocked him out, i'd call that a dominating type performance.

Re: Most one-sided upset of all time?
Edwin Rosario - Livingston Bramble was one.
Ali - Foreman was another.

Re: Most one-sided upset of all time?
Winky over Tito was an ass whooping. I really thought Tito would break down Winky and knock him out. Boy was I wrong.

Re: Most one-sided upset of all time?
mayweather dominated corrales in a way that most people didn't expect.
not that mayweather was an underdog...but it was complete domination.

Fuck off!
Not one single person who knew anything about boxing, thought Oscar stood a chance. He, hadnt fought at that weight for over 7 years and only managed to put just over a pound on over night by the use of an intravenus (or however you spell it) drip!
This fight to me is absolutely no different to Wards win over Dawson. Although Dawson agreed to it the fight was a joke and meaningless.

Re: Most one-sided upset of all time?
I think that Chavez was the under-dog when he fought Rosario.

The question Beanflicker asked was who was a massive underdog for the oddsmakers that completely dominated the fight. Pacquiao was at best a Super-Feather who jumped up to fight a Junior-Middle at Welter. Yes, Oscar was weight drained, but he was a massive favourite with the bookies and he got dominated. I'd love you to find a post where you predicted Pacquiao would stop him, because I genuinely believe you're full of shit.

Agreed on both counts.
That was looked at as such a dangerous fight for Pac even the president of his country tried to stop it I think.

Re: Most one-sided upset of all time?
Lol at the notion that Manny/Oscar deserves to be in this category. Oscar had not made 147 in 10 years, went on a watermelon diet and only re-hydrated 2 pounds. He was a walking dead man and looked it in the ring.
It does however meet the requirements of one of the most overrated wins in boxing history.
-
Early Tyson against everyone. He made everyone look like a beginner, novice, doofus or whatever you want to call them.

Like
Asking which fights had "big underdog absolutely dominated the favorite in a way that would suggest that the underdog was CLEARLY the better fighter"
Pacquiao wasnt the big underdog.
Edit, hmm, after posting this is I searched to see what the odds where and Pacquiao was indeed an underdog, although not massively. I never had any interest in this fight because of the weight. Same as who really got excitited about Dawson fighting Ward?
Anyway. The post starter was after examples where the massive u derdog beats down the favourite. I think this fight is more a fact a bunch of no nothings made the odds. I havent looked what the odds for Dawson v Ward were but youd hope they learnt their lesson that when a fighter has to drop down to a weight he hasnt been at for years, hes not going to win.

Re: Most one-sided upset of all time?
Oscar was the odds on favorite to beat Pacquiao. You can look it up. Oscar was looking for another famous smaller scalp to add to his collection before calling it a career. Those who now claim they knew Pacquiao would dominate are "Monday morning quarterbacking". Pacquiao had just once previously fought above 130, let alone above 140. Manny ruined De La Hoya's plans by dominating him and making him quit on the stool.
Perfect example of a one-sided upset.

De La Hoya was favourite in the fight. People called it a mismatch.
Poll: De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao. Who Will Win?
Last line suggest Oscar was an 8 to 5 favourite to win.

No it wasn't Tito. That fight was a joke. Its hard to fathom how the physical facts concerning weight can be ignored in this case. He looked like Morales at the weigh for 122 the night of the fight.

Not all time but unexpected.

Re: Most one-sided upset of all time?
Jose Armando Santa Cruz over Joel Casamayor is one that I think has been a little bit forgotten about and deserves some props since Jose's brother Leo is now looking to be quite a force in his division these days.
Judges screwed it up but Santa Cruz won every single round against Casamayor.

Re: Most one-sided upset of all time?
Pac was only about 2/1 or so, thats not a massive underdog. Thats a very competitive match up in a 2 horse race and especially in boxing betting where the odds are routinely massive favourites 1/20 etc.
2/1 means hes predicted to win one third of the time, which doesnt qualify as much of an upset tbh. Its not a big upset for a 5 or 6 to come up when you roll a dice.
Obviously Pac did completely own Oscar as an underdog of sorts (and no one expected that level of domination as far as im aware) but I dont think this example is what the thread creator was looking for.
BHop is a slightly better example but still he was only 3/1 or so I believe.
These arent big upsets.
Its very difficult to think of any 1 sided beatdowns by massive underdogs. Only KOs and hardfought decisions etc. I'll throw in a couple of those types of scenarios just for the hell of it even if they dont quite fit the criteria.
Ali was an 8/1 underdog in his first fight against Liston. Liston was so much a favourite infact that he was still installed as a slight favourite for the rematch.
Frankie Randall split decision over Chavez as a 15/1 underdog ending Chavezs 90 fight unbeaten streak and delivering him his first ever knockdown.

If you're talking about me you'd be wrong. I'm no Pac mega fan. I enjoy watching the guy fight, but he beat most of my favourite fighters. If he'd beaten Marquez too I'd have been pissed.
