Calzaghe the King of BS Stoppages?
This is probably old news to most of you, but I'll admit I haven't really seen much of Calzaghe pre-Lacy fight.
Not doubting that he's a great fighter, and not saying that any of these guys would have beat him. but I've never seen so many BS stoppages on one guy's resume. What the hell was going on over there? I always wondered how he had such a high finish rate for a slapper...

Re: Calzaghe the King of BS Stoppages?
^hahaha.
Before they get here, I'll say for the record I think Joe was a fantastic boxer. I know he dropped Eubank and Chris said he was the strongest guy he's been in there with so maybe Joe could punch when he wanted to.
But even the biggest Calzaghe fan has to admit that those stoppages were appalling!
Re: Calzaghe the King of BS Stoppages?
Every stoppage was legit. Just because a guy throws back and takes most of the punches on his gloves, as well as moves his head and looks coherent doesn't mean he isn't badly, badly hurt.
Re: Calzaghe the King of BS Stoppages?
Most of those stoppages you are only seeing the point the ref jumps in when you dont see the preceeding action it does look early but the Veit and Woodhall fights, Joe was manhandling them and dropped them to the point where the ref could see that Joe was just gonna keep pumping out the punches.
As for Manfredo the twat did that to himself by not fighting back. Ok he wasnt taking many if any punches but he wasnt showing any interest in fighting back and as we now know, Joe could have kept the pace up for a long time.
Re: Calzaghe the King of BS Stoppages?
He suffered real bad with his hands for a long time, that is not his fault.
He had a few dodgy stoppage wins i admit, but he would have won anyway.
Re: Calzaghe the King of BS Stoppages?
1. you could pick just about any one of the top fighters and put a string of their early fights together and a lot of the stoppages would look like bs
2. this video is only showing the last seconds of fights, calzaghe threw so many punches a lot of his opponents took so much that, even tho they werent on their back, there was little point in the fight continuing
3. there were some fights shown in that video that definately werent premature stoppages, richie woodall for example
4. this is a calzaghe hate video and therefore could not be used in evidence
5. stop being dicks
Re: Calzaghe the King of BS Stoppages?
Regarding the Woodhall fight, go to 2.54 of this video to see how Calzaghe was battering him.

Re: Calzaghe the King of BS Stoppages?
The hardest SLAPPER ever in my opinion.
Re: Calzaghe the King of BS Stoppages?
The hate for Calzaghe continues even after years of retirement

Come on, no one can justify the Manfredo stoppage. That was a pathetic stoppage. I remember watching it live and couldn't believe it.

I guess you missed the sarcasm in my post.
Alot of fights in the UK are like this. It's down to horrific refereeing more than anything. Frankie Gavin is a decent boxer, but he can't crack an egg. I haven't seen him legit stop someone yet and he has 10KO's of 14. Calzaghe is an all time great, and there was nothing in any of those fights to suggest the outcome was going to be any different. The Manfredo fight was a joke fight, and Calzaghe said in the aftermath interview that he didn't think it should have been stopped. Lets not pretend Manfredo was going to win though.

Calzaghe would have caused serious injury to Manfredo if the fight continued,Manfredo was not throwing anything back at Joe.Calzaghe was only in 2nd gear that night.
Re: Calzaghe the King of BS Stoppages?
No one's hating on Calzaghe, I think he's a terrific fighter and would have whipped all of these clowns even without the premature stoppages.
I don't think you should stop a fight when a guy is blocking punches and has his wits about him.
If this is how a lot of you guys feel, then I guess they should have stopped Foreman/Ali when Foreman was swinging his sledgehammer fists into Ali's arms and body with no real retaliation.

Really pal, watch the fight again ,Ali was landing more than foreman. As for Manfredo he was doing absolutely nothing.

Yep, at least Ali was looking at Foreman while his guard was up, unlike Manfredo who almost went in to featal position and looked at the floor and gave no indication of actually wanting to be in there.

I beg to differ
