Orlando Salido vs. "Mikey" Garcia - Saturday night fight/chat thread
:pimp2: A killer night of boxing for us fans next Saturday, Salido vs. Garcia should be a fucking war.
Jan. 19
At New York (HBO): Orlando Salido vs. Miguel Angel "Mikey" Garcia, 12 rounds, for Salido's WBO featherweight title; Gennady Golovkin vs. Gabriel Rosado, 12 rounds, for Golovkin's WBA middleweight title; Roman "Rocky" Martinez vs. Juan Carlos Burgos, 12 rounds, for Martinez's WBO junior lightweight title.
I'll go with Garcia by decision, but if he's not careful Salido could knock him out. Golovkin should have no problems with Rosado, a mid round KO for him. As for Martinez vs. Burgos, not sure yet, but Martinez should prevail.

Re: Orlando Salido vs. "Mikey" Garcia on HBO Saturday
Its a nice weekend of boxing.
NBC will have a nice card.
Kovalev v Campillo
Ayala v Stevens
Nice Wealth tv domestic card in Wolverhampton England
Then the HBO card.
Btw the Garcia/Salido clash is also for the Ring Title which is interesting if not puzzling seeing that Garcia is an Arum fighter and Oscar owns the Ring.
Garcia by a methodical surgeon like breakdown ending in a tko victory over Salido late in the fight.
GGG by destruction
Burgos on points.

Yup, I'd meant to add that NBC Sports was airing Gabriel Campillo vs. Sergey Kovalev, a light heavyweight fight. (the same Campillo who got fucked on the scorecards in a title fight against Tavoris Cloud)

Burgos has been around for a while, you'll recognize him once he gets in the ring Saturday night. A good card for us fans.
cheers

Going by Boxrec the only time I could have seen him was when he fought on the undercard of Manny Marquez 3. Can't remember him though. Maybe they didn't show the fight and even if they did completely wasted isn't the best condition to judge a fighter in. :)

I've never seen Garcia before, can anybody give some details about him ? I've seen Salido a lot, he's a great fighter. I loved his wins against Lopez, especially the second one.

"Mikey" Garcia is a good California based, 25 year old fighter, who's undefeated (30-0 (KO 26).
Miguel Angel Garcia : Boxer
I pick him to win a decision over Salido, if he doesn't get KTFO.
cheers Tam

Cheers mars Ive heard he's the brother of Robert Garcia , but in terms of the way the way he fights I've not heard anything. He's got a good record, but so did Lopez and we all know what happened to him.

He beat Luis Cruz that night. Cruz was undefeated going in. But like many recent upcoming Puerto Rican fighters he was hilariously overrated. The MD win should of been a UD win. Burgos handled him easily

Robert is his brother and in his corner. He's a boxer/puncher that is pin point in the accuracy department, switches to southpaw flawlessly and is methodical in his approach. Good defense and a good D. Here is a couple of clips.

Re: Orlando Salido vs. "Mikey" Garcia - Saturday night fight/chat thread
*I called Angel Garcia the most dangerous unknown fighter two years ago...and i stand by my statement. He's tall and knows how to fight tall. He's gunna jab and stick u with that straight right hand... if u corner him, he'll get down-right ally cat on u with heavy hard punches until he rolls out. He has dangerous power and is well schooled... I can see him winning a unanimous decision with his masterful boxing...BUT, Salido tends to get fighters to mix it up with him... if they go toe to toe, anything can happen. Salido possibly has the best chin in the busness, so it doesn't make sense to mix it up...
-
Watching the footage no doubt that this is going to be a war and a great card to start 2013.

At the same time, Burgos struggled with Cristobal Cruz in his previous fight (even going down once in the process), a fight that Burgos should have won convincingly. I see this fight with Martinez has a tough fight to pick. I'm pulling for Burgos, but I'm not sure he wins it.

I think only you rated him at all. I saw him in a recent fight and knew he was "run-of-the-mill". An undefeated record don't mean shit, as JCC Jr. found out against Martinez. There's plenty better prospects than this Cruz guy.

I didn't rate him. I knew he sucked from the beginning. But PR's thought he was good. The only 2 who were getting there dick sucked more than Cruz were Luis Del Valle and Thomas Dulorme. Let me guess. You never rated Del Valle and Dulorme either, right?

It would be nice to have a good P.R. heavyweight.... but Carlos has always looked a bit chinny to me. Too lanky and chinny to compete at the elite level.
Does that sound like I rated Luis Cruz?
Carry on.

Re: Orlando Salido vs. "Mikey" Garcia - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Great day for quality fights! I really like Kovalev and glad they were able to rework this match. It'll be interesting to see how Campillo has regrouped after rob job with Cloud and a long year off. I gotta think Kovalev gets to him eventually for late tko or dec.
Salido and Garcia is solid. Heart says Salido but brain says Garcia finally kicks in the door and makes a good statement win if he keeps his head. Salido will look to mix it up but is very well traveled and always takes damage. Garcia to fresh, too sharp and too Garcia! Martinez over Burgos in a shoot out and Golovkin in a big way over wide open Rosado.

I pretty much agree Spicoli, except I see Campillo vs. Kovalev being a toss up. Salido is one tough hombre, but I believe Garcia will be able to outbox him.

Wow. A comment that came after his loss. That don't mean shit. Where were those comments before the Burgos fight? By the time he lost, his own mom wasn't even claiming him. He was already a disappointment to everybody. I knew from the start he was overrated and garbage. Just like I'm telling you right now before his frist true test. Jayson Velez is also overrated. De Leon is passed his prime. But I'm expecting him to smash him
-
Re: Orlando Salido vs. "Mikey" Garcia - Saturday night fight/chat thread
I used to think Luis Cruz had alot of potential but I knew he wasn't ready for Burgos at the time which was y i didnt pick him...
Uh ohhh, Burgos is gonna show up like a boss tomorrow night and give that punching bag Martinez a beating..
People keep mentioning Burgos' so-so performance against Cristobal Cruz but since when can't young fighters, or anyone for that matter, have an off night?? Cruz was always a hard ass fighter who gave everybody a tough time so i dont even hold that against Burgos..
Im tellin ya right now. Mini Burgos is the real muthafuckin dealz . U can tell that he's a born fighter.. His style is so natural..

Re: Orlando Salido vs. "Mikey" Garcia - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Evening all. Just sitting down to watch this with my fake dead girlfriend. I'm drinking a Duvel. At 1-2 degrees centigrade Duvel is the world's greatest beer. I won't be drinking it all night though, I'm fried already and it's too strong to drink a lot of.
-
Re: Orlando Salido vs. "Mikey" Garcia - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Curtis Stevens KOs Elvin Ayala in round one.
-
Re: Orlando Salido vs. "Mikey" Garcia - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Wow, Stevens crushes Ayala in the 1st round, and then some shit starts in Stevens corner.. officially a 1st round KO for Stevens, a bad left hook and Ayala was basically done.
-
Re: Orlando Salido vs. "Mikey" Garcia - Saturday night fight/chat thread
That was impressive by Stevens! He just walked on Ayala like he was a doormat, awesome hook.
With the duel cards he just did us a favor ;D

I think there is something wrong with me, because I'm not a huge fan of most Belgian-style beers.

Depends what you get. All of the craft/Trappist ones are seriously strong and it puts people off. I drink them all literally ice cold and they're less soup-like like that. Then you've got the mass produced stuff like Stella which twenty years ago used to be a great beer but now with modern brewing methods is brewed in eight days instead of eight weeks (like all big branded beers, some now brewed in three days) and is piss.
It's really hard to find a session 4-5% lager beer that's good quality. Belgium no different from anywhere else unfortunately. After my Duvel I'm drinking Urquell and that's not the same anymore either.
