What 2 fighters would make the perfect fight..?
Past or present...dead or alive...within reason ( weight).
Who would you pick and why.?
Sugar Ray Robinson V Henry Armstrong - Welterweight
My choice..!
2 all time greats who had it all... Always in an all time top 10 by anyone who knows boxing and they have amazing fight stats the pair of them ;-)
Armstrong had insane KO power for a small man.... I've read many times he could have handled himself against most Heavies punch wise..whether had the chin to mix it and trade I doubt.
Robinson is my fave ever fighter...he had it all..power , all the punches and killer foot work.
Both were battle hardened and fought on a regular basis and I personally judge a fighter on how often and who he fought.
Can't call this one but would have loved to have seen it, Maybe even side to Armstrong putting Robinson in serious trouble with his power and banging him out.
They would have had a rematch any way... Lamotta and RR fought 6 times with RR winning 4 ;-).
Would have been an amazing fight for sure. ;-)

Two big bangers with solid chins going at it, what's not to like?

prime Tyson-Tua
Aaron Pryor vs Sugar Ray Robinson
Marciano-Ali

Excellent question. My left nut for a time machine if for nothing else then the question posed.
The fight you chose would have been something else if those two could have met when both were in their prime instead of a time when Armstrong was broke. By all accounts Ray carried him for 10. That had to be humiliating for Hank.
Here is a few more dream fights. Sorry man it was impossible to pick just one so I capped it at 8.
inpo
B.Leonard/Gans
Armstrong/Sanchez
Greb/Robinson
Pep/Whitaker
Hagler/Hopkins
Jones/Moore
Jones/Charles
Burley/Greb

Re: What 2 fighters would make the perfect fight..?
Liston v Foreman. - Bombs away!

Armstrong v Pryor. - two windmills collide!
Fenech v McGuigan. - this is an interesting one.
J.C.Chavez v S.Sanchez. - two great fighters.
RJJ v Leonard/Robinson. - Loved to have see RJJ pit his speed with these two.
Benn v Julian Jackson - KO 1 for sure.
Tommy Hearns v Floyd Mayweather - welter fight , lets see floyd handle the hitman.

Re: What 2 fighters would make the perfect fight..?
Prime beau jack vs prime pernell Whitaker lightweight
Jack at his best was a very powerful swarmer that would be a hard fight for any lightweight
Whitaker a master at avoiding opponents attacks and striking back

There are some top lightweights Beau Jack, Ike Williams, Joe Gans, Benny Leonard which dependant on styles have had some great fights with Duran, Shane and Whitaker

Re: What 2 fighters would make the perfect fight..?

Re: What 2 fighters would make the perfect fight..?

Re: What 2 fighters would make the perfect fight..?
I'd love to see Roy Orbison fighting Stevie Wonder (but we'd need a time machine so they could both be in their prime)
There are some other fights that I would pay good money to see as well ........
Harriet Harman v Anne Widdicombe
Roy Keane v Roberto Duran (there's only one winner here, but I'd really enjoy seeing a pretend football mouthy hard man meeting a real one)
Late Elvis v Barry White

Re: What 2 fighters would make the perfect fight..?
Mike Tyson-Riddick Bowe in 1992 (hypothetically Tyson avoids jail for this to happen): Tyson was not as dynamic defensively at this point in his career but he still had very fast hands and big power. Riddick never fought power punchers, he just didn't look at his record. Riddick was big, talented, and had a very good ability to be a technical boxer...he would however, get lazy in the ring and allow smaller fighters to get on the inside. This blend of styles means the best & worst for each fighter. Tyson would get hit but could find a way in and Bowe could find Tyson but would slip up on defense....its a pick 'em fight really.
Salvador Sanchez-Alexis Arguello @135 in 1983: A squat all action slugger vs El Flaco Explosivo...it wouldn't make the cards that's for certain!

Re: What 2 fighters would make the perfect fight..?
Evander Holyfield vs Ken Norton - those two were strong, not really true power punchers but awkward and I'll say it again STRONG
Rocky Marciano vs James Toney(the one that fought Jirov) - sure at that point in his career Toney was past his best, but he always had a solid chin and always had good defense. It would be interesting and entertaining.
Roberto Duran vs Aaron Pryor - Duran was the greatest lightweight EVER and Pryor was pretty damned tough himself. They could fight it in a phone booth.

Re: What 2 fighters would make the perfect fight..?
Benny Leonard v Marquez 135
Armstrong v Mayweather 147
Pep v Mab 126

Re: What 2 fighters would make the perfect fight..?
JMM vs. Salvador Sanchez - Style wise both very durable and excellent boxers, tacticians and excellent combination punchers. Outstanding ring generalship from both. Loved attacking the body and then going up stairs.
Boxing Ability - JMM
Power - Even
Defense - Sanchez
Ring Generalship - JMM
Chin - Sanchez
Stamina - Even
Overall I think JMM wins a close SD by being faster than Sanchez and getting there first. It starts off as a slow cautios fight where JMM wins all the early rounds while Sanchez wins a couple in the middle but JMM closes out the fight better.

Re: What 2 fighters would make the perfect fight..?
I don't understand people picking people like Harry Greb, when there's no actual fighting footage of him is there ?

Nice list bud. I'd put Armstrong in with Manny from 126 to 147 in the volume category.

Yes but i've actually seen footage of Robinson and plenty of highlights, so i can atleast have an opinion on him. Where as to my knowledge there is no footage of Greb at all so thats why i don't get people picking Greb, when they can't base any opinion on him because they've never seen him fight. Not trying to be an ass or anything just giving my two cents.

Maybe it is the mystery of these wonderful tough fights and how they would match up with more contemporary fighters that is so intriguing....
