I'm going to watch the fight prior to crashing and will probably smoke a joint first. Its just before 9 here. The reports I am reading is that Sturm got boned up the ass after dominating the first half of the fight.
You gotta hate Karma.
Sturm won the first 4 handily , scoring a knockdown in the 2nd. Soliman turned up the tempo and was just more active than Sturm in the second half of the fight. Still, I had it 115-112 Sturm, and think it was a pretty bad decision.
Sturm cruised and effectively threw the fight away. For the first 3 or 4 rounds he was rocking Soliman every time he landed a right hand.
"to the winner by unanimous decision... aus Deutschland ...pardon me ..no Ladies and Gentlemen from Australia the winner by unanimous decision Sam "King" Soliman. The winner is Soliman by unanimous decision." ;D
1-Sturm
2-Sturm 10/8
3-Sturm
4-Sturm
5-Soliman
6-Sturm. Close round. Even though Soliman looked busier it was not effective. Sturm countered well and landed the cleaner shots.
In order to reach the conclusion they did, the judges must have been counting all of these shots landing on Sturms guard.
7-Soliman
8-Soliman by a c-hair
9-Soliman
10-Sturm
11-Soliman
12-Sturm but another tough rd. It was kind of stupid by Sturm to Winky up and counter in the last round. That may have cost him the round and the fight. The hesitation to raise his arms may have also had a domino effect.
After reading all the press and opinions on this fight I was expecting to see a robbery. I didn't and some of those rounds were extremely difficult to score imo. I gave it to Sturm but see no controversy.
Sturm is getting some back lash from judges as payback for some of earlier dodgy decisions. Karma.
Sturm won comfy, but should of stepped on the gas in the second when he had soliman realing, i think the judges feel that if the fight seems close in germany and they give it to the home fighter there will be backlash in the media, a few decisions recently sturm geale, and sprott got a good win a few weeks back.
Sturm should have not come out in the 11th and 12th looking to counter. He blew it and his corner should have told him and I don't know that they didn't that Sam might be getting points for just throwing and especially in the judges blind spots.
Well that kind of equals out the Karma scales. He lost in his last two fights that perhaps he should have won against 2 Aussies but he also escaped two losses in the minds of many against Macklin and Murray. So its back to the even space-time continuum. Just in time because GGG has already offered him an immediate title shot.
As I said the German judges are leaning the other way now to compensate for the years of Ottke robberies. We just want them to score the fight right.
Karma is right.
I know you'll all remember his recent draw, I though murray was waaaaay ahead at the end.
I also though macklin beat him.
Soliman tests positive for banned substance after Sturm fight
At age 39, it seemed as though Australian middleweight veteran Sam Soliman had finally gotten a career defining victory, as he outpointed former middleweight titlist Felix Sturm over twelve tough rounds on Feb. 1, somehow prevailing on the scorecards in Sturm's backyard in Germany.
Unfortunately, news has just surfaced that Soliman tested positive for a yet to be determined designer drug in his post-fight A-sample, as confirmed by German Boxing Federation president Thomas Putz. They could now open Soliman's B-sample if Soliman's team asks for it to be opened, which could take place in the next week.
Though the substance has yet to be named, it has been narrowed down to an amphetamine that is performance enhancing. It is often used in cycling and helps produce a higher amount of oxygen.
"I received a letter from NADA (National Anti-Doping Agency) today with the news that Soliman's A sample was tested positive,” said Putz in an official statement. “They found a designer drug in the urine sample that was taken after the fight with Felix Sturm on February 1st. I'm shocked and already informed the governing bodies."
"This explains a lot,” said Sturm upon hearing the news to German newspaper BILD.
“We hope for justice and a new shot for Felix,” said Sturm manager Roland Bebak.
Despite his awkward style, Soliman has always come into fights in tremendous shape, and the Sturm fight was no aberration as the perennial contender finished strong in order to edge Sturm 114-113 on two scorecards with a third, wider 116-111 in his favor rendering him the unanimous victor.
The irony here is that it was Soliman's team who asked for the most uncommon of drug tests prior to the fight, all of which Sturm participated in, yet it is Soliman who tests positive. If the B-sample tests positive, the fight would likely become a no contest and Soliman would lose his mandatory spot to challenge for fellow Australian Daniel Geale's IBF 160-pound title.
Looks like Daniel Geale will have to find another opponent, he should head straight to the USA and seek a big money fight there.
Fuck the NC. They should just give Sturm the win. Since he is the one who actually deserved the win. That's 2 fights in a row Sturm's been robbed
Iv been reading about this elsewhere.
I find it bemusing how people are saying that Sturm is getting slower with age but then no one is amazed that Soliman is doing so well at 39!
Apparently the stuff he has been caught with isnt the stuff that someone whos just starting taking peds would take and there is a very good chance that Soliman has been cheating for years.
Why do these cunts still keep getting to fight? Theres been too many to mention now but any boxer caught cheating, no matter how minor should have a minimum ban of say a year and then has to comply with random testing as long as his pro career lasts. Why should they let them all cheat? Its now becoming whos got more stamina that skill
Looks like this will be changed to a NC.
