If you are a fighter you need a good chin. If you are a great fighter you need a great chin!
Here are few who had terrific chins. Add to the list or rearrange them.

I don't want to argue but I do want you opinions.
I agree that Hagler is at, or near the top regarding all-time chins.
But there are also fighters whose chins have exceeded their greatness as fighters.
Arturo Gatti comes to mind.
The others I recognize on the list have/had pretty good chins as well.
Rocky of course had a tremendous chin.
Mosley quickly comes to mind
what about great fighters with subject chins

Paulie Ayala. Not sure if you have seen the Morales fight but how he remained standing was unreal. Only stopped once in his final fight by Mab.

I don't know if a all great have great chins, they just have the better defense and offense to pull them out of the fire or not put them in there in the first place. Only thing about a solid beard is you don't want to need to repeatedly prove it. Toney was an upper body roll and slip phenom, but he got rocked a few.

Certainly not putting him in the great bracket, but for a british boxer Wayne Mccullough had a great chin.
Randall Tex Cobb, I remember Larry Holmes hitting him for fun his face was a punch bag
that night all them head punches sickening to watch.

Howard Cossell's last commentary I believe, retiring to work solely on amt fights after that. Theres a large gaps in the Holmes fight where he doesn't say anything. I think you'd have to go some to get a better chin than Cobb.Quote:

Great fighters have only one obligation: to win fights.
To win fights, one must protect their weaknesses by fighting in a way that he is most proficient in and maximizes his chance of winning.
If a fighter has a questionable chin but solid defence that prevents his opponent from landing a flush KO blow, then his weakness is a non-issue.
Roy Jones had a questionable chin but went 15 years without a real loss and won belts from middleweight to heavyweight. Anyone who says he isn't a great fighter is insane.

I would say Holmes and Ali had brilliant recuperative powers, while a McCall or Chuvalo had 'great chins'. Although their chins were sound, Ali had issues with left hooks, and Holmes with right hands.
