Why do i dislike steve collins
Not so much as a person i dislike him he seems nice and even shook my hand at a boxing show before. But come on as a fighter he was tough as nails but limited, he beat an old shop worn benn and eubank. Jones in the 90,s would have played the drums on his face all day and stopped him. Prime eubank would have beat him. Hes overrated imo. And no i wont be watching the fight between him and jones, they should be in a retirement home fighting over what they want to watch on tv murder she wrote or countdown, not each other...

He was a very good fighter, somewhat underrated in my opinion.

Collins didnt have much in the locker , but he did is make the most of what he had , with some success.

I didn't read your gibberish post. However from the title of this thread I gather that you're the kind of person that needs reassurance on the things you like and dislike, which is by all measures, sad.
I don't know you well enough to conjure a response to your question. However, I am willing to put fourth my retort in the form of a theory.
It goes like this:
You sleep under a huge poster of RJJ on your roof and masterbait (violently I might add) to the good old days, while looking straight into his black and blue, bruised & cut, old and glazed over eyes just wishing he could get a decent fight, cursing the fact he has fallen to fighting 40+ year old's just to make a little money to survive.
Like I said just a theory.

I have a lot of respect for Collins because he's a guy I lump in as an overachiever. He didn't have great athletic gifts or natural talent, but he was tough as nails and did incredibly well with what he had.
That being said, when people bring him up as a potential Jones opponent in the 90's, I just have to shake my head. He wouldn't have won 30 seconds of that fight.

Collins was styled as a bit of a 'cutie' when he was in the States. But old man McCallum showed up his limitations, not that, that was any disgrace.
Then, when he came to the UK and Ireland he started to brawl and bully a bit more. It worked well against Pyatt and Benn, and he kind of out Eubank'd, Eubank with the 'faux' psychology that Eubank seemingly took a bit too serious.
I think Collins might of given Jones a bit to think about early, roughing him up, and trying to make things awkward. And as the first Griffin fight showed, an overconfident Jones, not getting things his own way can lead to him becoming frustrated.
That said, I think it unlikely that Jones would of lost to Collins, but Steve would of made it more of a match than I suspect many would of thought.
As for the dislike. I kind of agree, I too disliked Collins. I think that may of been because as well as beating two of my British boxing heroes of the 90s, he did so, seemingly without respect and apology (which is fair enough), and I think that got under my skin.

Steve was not under rated and he was a limited boxer who achieved more success than his ability. He was beaten by world class boxers at middleweight but learnt from the best in the US. He came back to Britain and was fortunate to catch Benn and Eubanks at the end of their careers. However Collins put excellent performances against both of them and should be recognised for that. He would have lost to Jones and retired before Joe Galzaghe got to him.
Steve was good in his cameo role in Lock Stock and seems like a good bloke.
