The Olympics is a joke and largely quite dull really. Most of the sports people pay no attention to for at least 47 out of every 48 months. It is just a daft nationalist thing on the whole. Take the tennis for instance. I really enjoy tennis, but an Olympic gold just doesn't have the same interest as winning a major. I hate golf, but I am sure golf fans agree. And why allow pro tennis players and for many sports to be effectively amateur. Olympic football is just a waste of time. It doesn't show the best of anything. And boxing must be amateur only. It's all nonsense and I validate that by all the things that don't add up.
Just as long as womens beach volleyball is not touched then I do not care.
Wrestling has not been 'dumped' for Golf and Rugby, all three will be in the next summer Olympics.
Wrestling has to 'justify' itself as to why it should be in the 2020 Olympics, against a number of other sports as diverse as 'X' sports, Baseball/Softball and squash that are competing for that spot Wrestling currently has.
Although not the most TV friendly sport, as mentioned here Wrestling has an Olympic history that over shadows virtually all other sports, and thus should be part of the Olympics in 2020.
I understand and agree with the IOC wanting to keep the Olympics 'relevant' by modernizing, but that should be done on the backbone of the 'original' Olympic sports.
this is a total horseshit deal. it is european elitism making this call from behind closed doors when you wash away the surface stuff. It isn't about anything else much more than generating advertising dollars and has been done by a few high brow IOC members who basically took it upon themselves to make the call.
