It's nearly here. Those wanting to catch a live stream of the weigh in can find it here at approx 1pm

What are your thoughts on the test that Thompson will provide ? Will he test Price into the late rounds or will he fold as soon as the big scouser starts connecting?

Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
Well looking forward to this. Price has done a very good job of beating ''common opponents'' and had cleaned out the domestic scene. I think he is the best in Europe (bar possibly Fury) and should batter Thompson (who is too passive to be a real test despite his track record).
Back on the common opponents theme, I'm sure we're all keen to see if Price can do a better job than Wladimir.
I'm guessing Price by 5
-
Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
you seem excited
ive put a bet on price to win by KO in the 5th
dunno why its a long shot really
i hope price wins obviously but id like to see a few rounds, it would be nice if he does a better job that the big clit
but price is so untested appart from his power i have absolutely no idea how the fight will go
-
I am looking forward to it, but what Thompson turns up will play a big part in how the fight unfurls. He was less impressive in his rematch with Wlad than the first fight and age must have played a part in that. Price needs rounds to test his stamina and round out his defence and pacing, and to stop people going on about his supposedly fragile chin. Thompson is a decent boxer but not good enough to keep Price off him and I can see him being knocked clean out long before he gets a chance to crumble, with the stoppage being far more impressive then Wlads 6 round leaning on and messing about. 3 rounds max. Gonna check the odds.

Price rounds 1-3 is a 6/4 shot.

Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
Considering Thompson gave up then basically quit against Wlad, I can't see him having much ambition for this fight.
Soon as he feels the power of Price it'll be goodnight vienna, whether he's genuinely stunned or not.
Round 1 @ 15/2

its a different fight tho, he took jab after jab against wlad and looke like he had had enough
there may or may not be more power in prices punches but he will definately be taking less
-
Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if Thompson spoiled for a few rounds, however, with no title on the line, getting booed to fuck by a bunch of scousers and getting cracked in the head by a thundering giant will be enough to make Thompson think "fuck this for a game of soldiers" pretty quick.
-
Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
Rooting for Price to impressively KO Thompson.
At this point, I'm looking for new, real challenges to Wlad..... not retreads from the past.
Go Price!
-
Price is young, big, a big puncher, a great finisher, seems to enjoy his work, but against limited opposition. Thompson has a big edge in experience which you have to consider.
Thompson is 41, but Thompson's second attempt against Wlad says more about Wlad than Thompson's age. Wlad was saying, "Tony, don't come back again, it's only going to get worse."
I've never been high on Thompson, and being the soft hearted guy that I am, I don't want to see him get bombed out under five rounds, and if it goes five rounds Thompson has a chance.
-
Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
Price will smash him to the floor inside 2 rounds i think...
I think Price hits harder than Wlad and his right hook and uppercut is fierce.
Price needs a war in one of his next few fights... even if he lost so what.
Didn't do Haye any harm at a similar stage in his career.;)
Im hoping Thompson has a go early as that surely is his only chance, i wanna see Price backed up and hurt.

Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
Thompson seemingly out of shape. He weighed in at a career high , nearly 20 pounds above his last fight

That says it all.

Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
Plus it's all looser talk from Thompson.
I actually want price to spark him in one now.

I can't find any good value for that though. Unless you backing a surprise Thompson upset or it going the distance there seems little point betting on this one. Not that it will stop anyone.;D

i dunno 4s or 5s for a KO in most of the rounds isnt too bad, i got 8/1 on the 5th
and its looking like an early KO now, just need to get the round right
ive got 2nd and the 5th now
-
Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
Thompson taking Price into the late rounds seems to be where the value is. With Price winning in rounds 9-12. Or a knockout in the first 60 secs with Price at 16/1 and Thompson at 200/1. If Price has a chin that is as vulnerable as people think this is the fight to bet against him in . @ross? ;D

Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
@Beanz - we get this card beginning Saturday afternoon @ around 3:30 PM ET here in the States, i'll definitely check out the main event. :drunks:
At Liverpool, England (Wealth TV): David Price vs. Tony Thompson, 10 rounds, heavyweights; Kevin Satchell vs. Luke Wilton, 12 rounds, for Satchell's British and Commonwealth flyweight titles; Darren Hamilton vs. Steve Williams, 12 rounds, for Hamilton's British junior welterweight title; Adil Anwar vs. TBA, 8 rounds, junior welterweights
As for who wins, I really don't know how good Price is, but I do know that Thompson is basically a fucking punching bag. If Price can't get by Tony then he's going nowhere as a HW.
cheers

Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
Dreaful form of Thompson to show up that heavy. I think he knows it's his last big paycheck. Price should end him in 1-2 but Thompson doesn't have a very active style anyway. If Thompson can keep from getting hurt & just starting to trade because his legs are gone he could last 6 at the most, but this isn't the Tony Thompson that fought Wlad, I know that much.
Would LOVE to see Helenius take on Price after this, that would be one hell of a fight and I like Price to win by KO.
As for the Price-Thompson match I say Price dusts him in 3-4...Thompson's defense and decent chin should help him out a little bit, but we all know Price will gun for the KO.

ross? ;D
Well, like I said, if Thompson has any ambition but coming in 18lb heavier than his last fight doesnt look good!
If Price has absolutely any trouble with Thompson hes not going anywhere but Thompson isnt here to fight so you shouldnt have to worry;)

What time's the Price fight?

Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
Fights like this where they are clearly taking a journeyman type to build a record on, they should offer the opponent a bonus for each round he completes and or a knockout win. Thompson was probably retired in his head, someones offered him a guaranteed approx £40,000 to just turn up and hes done a little bit of training, enough to make sure he doesnt get hurt but at the site of any danger from Price hes going to find a way out and it wouldnt surprise me if its by disqualification or staying on his stool between rounds with an injury.

Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
Thompson is just a washed up fighter with no ambition and Price will probably blow him away in a couple of rounds at most.
They really need to put Price in with a serious opponent who hits back and is in there to win. I don't see Thompson doing anything other than trying to survive.

Interesting read from GB Boxing Captain Tom Stalker on the amateur Price - Fury fight which he was at fighting on the same card
"Tyson Fury has been slagging off David Price on Twitter.
I can understand Tyson building the proposed fight up to put bums on seats and earn a big pay day but David Price will beat him and beat him well.
I fought on the same card when Pricey beat him last time. There was a great atmosphere. It was in the ABA North West Counties finals in Wythenshawe Forum, Manchester in 2006 and the place was ram packed to the rafters.
There were two big crews of fans from Liverpool and Manchester and I think it was almost as tasty outside the ring as in. Pricey totally outboxed Tyson that night and he will do the same. He may be 6ft 8ins tall but Pricey moves like a middleweight, he's lean and he's got great technique. Tyson is good but I think Pricey is the best equipped to take on the Klitschkos if they hang around"
-
Re: David Price v Tony Thompson- Saturday Night- Boxnation- Fight/Chat Thread
Can't wait for this fight. Big weight advantage Thompson is carrying. Will be a good fight if Thompson comes out on form.
The Independent was a good read. But I have one disagreement with the article. What the hell is the Independent writer on about? Saying the Klits "have transformed into two of the finest heavyweights in any era."
That is a very foolhardy statement. That I disagree with. Not wishing to derail this thread.

With all due respect, Stalker is talking about a 17 year old novice being beaten by a 22 year old experienced international. Stalker is yet to have his first taste of the pros and is yet to realise its a whole different ball game from the amateurs and is not in the slightest taking in to account the vast difference in experience the two now have in the pros. Fury is levels above Price and is still only 24!
All he has said is Fury got well outboxed but like I say, that was a novice 17 year old with a handfull of fights.

Price has looked good so far but I'm dieing to see what happens when he gets touched.

You are right about Thompson being over the hill, but short changing him on ambition is wrong. He's been in with Wlad twice, if that isn't ambitious, what is?
This fight is not meaningless, if Price bangs out Thompson within four rounds he will be on the fast track to Wald or Vitali.

Burkey looks pretty good for being off 7 years
