Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz, April 27th, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena at 143lbs
Amir Khan ready to fight in UK for the first time two years | The Sun |Sport|Boxing
Should be shown on Showtime before Garcia-Judah. Not a terrible opponent, Diaz has caused a few upsets lately. I expect Khan to win comfortably though. I hate catchweight fights though. Either move up or fight at 140.

Re: Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz, April 27th, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena at 143lbs
Yeah it should be a good win for Amir, by stoppage i should think, of Diaz 7 losses 5 have been by early KO. He's an ex world champ though so a safe fight for Amir.

Re: Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz, April 27th, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena at 143lbs
That's pretty shitty for a home fight.
Nothing wrong with Diaz as a "stay busy" opponent, but they could have faced someone more current/sexy considering Khan hasn't fought at home in a few years.
-
Re: Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz, April 27th, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena at 143lbs
That is a very safe fight for Khan, they must be worried about his chin. He will have to get in with Garcia eventually and needs the confidence that he can take a puncher.

Re: Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz, April 27th, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena at 143lbs
If Frank Warren had made this fight (orKhan's last fight) people would have been saying, yeah, typical opponent for one of Warren's fighters.

Re: Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz, April 27th, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena at 143lbs
I thought Khan said that he didnt want to move up at all in weight because he would not be able to perform to his best if he does fight at 140 again? I dont know why the fight is at a catch weight it seems a bit silly to me, especially if Khan is planning on fighting Garcia again at 140.
This should be a routine victory for Khan, but he shouldnt take his eye off his opponent like he has done against Peterson and Garcia. Khan should be 100% focused on getting the job done and not worry about his next fight until he has got the job done first. Thats one thing I dont like about Khan and thats why he lost to Peterson and Garcia IMO. Hes more than capable of beating Diaz and im sure he will but I hope he focuses on Diaz and gets the job done well.
Peterson-Matthysse, Alexander-Brook Could Head To A.C. - Boxing News
I read this before, I think that would be an interesting matchup in the future if Khan gets through Diaz. If he could fight and beat Garcia (although im not 100% sure he could beat Garcia) he should look to fight the winner of Peterson-Matthysse. Or if Garcia wins he should be looking for this match up too, if he gets through Judah and Khan. By that time Broner could have potentially cleaned up at 135 and would be looking to move up to 140...I think there are some potential good fights to be made here.

Anthony Ogogo and Amir's younger brother Haroon Khan will be making their debut's on the undercard according to Schaefer.

Little known fact about Haroon Khan, his middle name is Amatata. Together, his names mean "no worries".

Re: Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz, April 27th, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena at 143lbs
For some reason I really thought they would rule Diaz out after Petrrson just thrashed Holt who one punch kod Diaz inside of a year ago. Twisted logic I guess.
Love Diaz but he's been a cashed in chip for awhile, at least at top tier. He'll have enough heart and grit to hang but it'll be interesting to see if Khan efforts and risks for a tko or find a shut out 12 satisfactory enough.

Re: Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz, April 27th, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena at 143lbs
Lights out for Diaz
Always a guy I liked to follow, thought he beat Manfredy back in the day
Wouldn't have minded seeing Khan in against someone like Olusegun

Olusegun would be too high a risk for Khan, at the moment Khan is very brittle.

To be fair I actually think he won the Peterson fight. Given Petersons PED usage and hometown advantage I think Khan wins a rematch. Also if he stays focused he beats Garcia easy. He was winning the fight and just got caught with a big shot behind the ear. If it landed on the chin it mightnt have done as much damage. Khan will not go anywhere near Matthysse for a good while, far too big a puncher.
He should make light work of Diaz and is a very safe fight. I cant see this selling tickets though as he is not that popular in England and would usually only sell tickets for the opponent, the McCloskey fight in Manchester was overrun with Irish.
I really rate Khan and think he could beat anyone on his day. His boxing skill are excellent. Hes still only young so still has a big future in my opinion.

Agreed. Diaz hasn't been relevant for years...
Khan is a former trinket holder & shouldn't be babied like this
Completely sh*t match-up imo
-
Re: Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz, April 27th, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena at 143lbs
I do not think it is all about Khan being Babied. Seems Peterson,Garicia and Senchenko are not too eager to fight him again either. Stupid really because he would help earn all three of them more money than most opponents.

Re: Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz, April 27th, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena at 143lbs
I do not know who to believe but one thing is certain, actions speak louder than words and the opponents chosen for Khan are light punchers, small and non-threatening which tells me that they are not 100% sure of Khan's chin.

Repeat from previous comment, AND WE'RE ALL SUPPOSED TO RUSH OUT AND BUY TICKETS FOR THIS?
In your dreams golden boy, you'll get a few ppv or internet blagsite merchants but no effective bums on seats to watch Khan's extended heavily publicised apprenticeship. There is a real danger now that Audley will actually out-acheive him!

I am not blaming Peterson but after Khan offering to go and fight a guy in his own back yard in Washington it is hardly unreasonable for Khan to expect the favour to be returned. Unrealistic maybe but not unreasonable. It is also not like Khan cherry picked and avoided everyone to achieve what he has. So after the Garcia upset, he has surely earned the right to take his time and rebuild. He is a young boxer and people are a little naive if they think he is going to jeopardise the rest of his career by rushing straight back in with a puncher.

I completely agree with everything you said, I was just pointing out that you can understand why Peterson wouldn't take it. People have criticised the crap outta the Diaz fight but after his performance against Shawn Porter I think Diaz deserves the fight and fair play for having the balls to come to the UK.

Diaz is a warrior & will fight anyone, anywhere so no surprise with him taking the fight, especially at this stage of his career
Khan had the Molina fight & in continuing to rebuild he should have looked at what would be perceived as a sterner step up, didn't necessarily need to be a puncher, Cesar Cuenca can't punch for sh*t but is rated among a few of the alphabet groups, Fedchenko & Olusegun aren't monster punchers, hell even Spadafora would probably have been better received...

Re: Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz, April 27th, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena at 143lbs
The thing that does not add up is the fact that Khan says he wants Garcia next and yet he is not taking on anyone near that level of competition. Either he has no intention to fight Garcia immediately or he is taking a big risk if they do fight this year.

This sort of statement gets pedaled out everytime he fights a lighter puncher. He's with a new trainer now so it makes sense to have a few camps and learning fights with him, and then once Garcia or Peterson become available, rematch them.
Just like most fighters, he's faced guys who can punch and then he's faced some guys who can't.

But it's a bigger risk to face someone who is closer to Garcia, because Garcia knocked him out. ;D

Re: Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz, April 27th, Sheffield Motorpoint Arena at 143lbs
Saw something on twitter that he wants Garcia v Judah and Petersen v Can't remember who ?? to fight off in a mini tournament then winner to fight him.
I don't know where he gets the idea that he is still the man to beat and the one they're all aiming for - prick

Just heard on Sky Sports Khan wants to fight Garcia next and then the winner of Peterson v Matthysse for the undisputed title.
