Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
On paper Nugaev could be a serious spoiler rude awakening for Maicelo. Then again, they don't throw resumes at each other ;D
Maysonnet jr really looked like he didn't know what he was doing at all
??? HBO is at 1 pm tomorrow!!

The Russian (Nugaev) is much bigger, good scrap, good first round.

Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
Maicelo seriously needs to settle down and tighten up...taking too many left hooks
1-1

Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
These 2 are throwing bombs, this might not go the distance.

Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
What Teddy just said there can be applied to so many fighters today.

It should be fun, Merchant and Foreman along with Tim Ryan will be calling the fight on HBO2.

Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
Solid action here. Maicelo looks like a guy moving more to get out of the way than to set something up...hes getting touched way too much and winging wide

Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
I have 3-2 Nugaev, awesome battle, Maicelos misses can be as big as his connects
-
Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
Maicelo just went through hell in that 7th...5-2 Nugaev unless I'm missing something

Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
Boom goes the dynamite :o
Scratch one 0....helluva ko there

Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
I dont like what the ref did at all.

Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
Maicelo looked to be fading and or done in the last couple of rounds before the KO, Officially a an 8th round KO for Nugaev.
This ended up being worth watching, good main event for FNF.
-
Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
Great KO! The ref was quick to wave it off, but IMO he never would have beaten the count anyway

I didn't like him holding his wrists down, but honestly he was getting torn up and timed like bus ride

I don't know, Maicelo was looking like he was KTFO, laying flat on his back.

Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
Two more fake prospects get exposed. I've seen Maicelo before. He is or was one of the 3 "suppose" crown jewels who were suppose to put Peru on the boxing map. Looks like it's down to 2.
Maysonet had looked pretty decent before. But it was against crap opposition. Another overrated Puerto Rican prospect crashes and burns.

Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
I realize that fellas but you dont hold a guy down let alone call the fight in a 3kd rule fight. Let him attempt to get up and call it off

Makes sense, on 2nd look Maicelo was trying to get up, I guess in the ref's mind he was protecting the fighter.
All things considered this wasn't one of the worst calls i've seen by a ref.

He called the fight prior to holding him down. Thats coddling. Lets give them helmets.

It's funny the way that happens, give a guy a big build up, and his chances of losing seem to increase.

Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
Just eliminate the 3 knockdown rule then. I mean the same ref might actually count to 10 when a guys asleep wtf. If someone is knocked cold why the F are you counting to 10?

Once you go down on your face after taking that many clean shots its like showing up an hour late to a job interview with a ref
The ref looked more concerned with him flopping around Berbick style than he did him actually being sound enough to suffer more kd's. Good ending

Look, it may have been the right call but it was the wrong way to do it lending to the ongoing pussyfication of this sport.

I think thats a huge stretch. It wasn't a cut call, stoppage on iffy kd and the damage was really accumulating and ended in a brutal one punch face crash.
Ref saw something and we were not able to see his eyes, be they clear or rolling into the back of his head. Simply 'moving' on the canvas doesn't make you able to continue

Different fighters recoup differently. Let him stand up and do the Judah or get rid of the 3 knockdown rule.

Dude. You don't have to go down 3 times just to prove your ko'd once. Judah is the prime example of a guy who should have never been allowed to get up in the first place :-\

The referee is tasked with enforcing the rules and protecting the fighters. I've seen referees restrain fighters many, many times after they've waved a fight off.
If the referee had just put a hand on his chest to restrain him, nothing would have been said, but when he grabbed both wrists it looked different.
Piss on the three knock down rule, if the referee thinks he's had enough, that's good enough for me. The kid was taking a real beating and the KD was the last straw. Good stoppage, in my opinion

Re: FNF - Jonathan Maicelo vs. Rustam Nugaev - April 5th.
I'm not going to second-guess the referee on this one. He did what he thought was best for the fallen Maicelo. However... he did have to forcibly keep Maicelo down, while the guy was making an effort to get up. He could've let the guy up, looked into his eyes, and then stopped the fight anyway. At least the guy's out on his feet, not flat on his back. Having said that, there was no way in hell Maicelo could've been allowed to continue. Not the way he went down. In reality, it was the waving off of the fight that prompted the ref to pin Maicelo's wrists to the canvas. It just looked a bit weird, is all. Bottom line, though... it's a judgement call made under pressure and at the moment. His priority was protecting Maicelo from potential serious injury. So IMO he shouldn't be second-guessed.
