Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
I know this is a generic thread but ...... Well I don't need to give you a reason.
My answer is, anybody is beatable.
Floyd apparently has slowed it he legs department, Guerrero is a good fighter and only one shot is needed to win any fight.
I've never, ever been a fan of Floyd's style or his out ring arrogance, I just don't believe he is what boxing is about, but that is only my opinion.
I'd take Shannon Briggs and Frank Bruno beating the shit out of each other for 12 rounds in a 20 seater pub if I had that as a choice before I'd watch Mayweather vs Guerrero but alas, that is not an option so I'll probably watch it.
However I see this fight going the same way as Floyd's last 43 fights.... And why?
2 words..... Michael Katsidis.
I watched Guerrero beat him in a 12 round UD and my theory is that if he could not stop the very easy to hit Katsidis, he won't stop Floyd because he won't get anywhere near half as many hits in as he did against the tough Aussie.
And I don't see him out pointing Floyd.
So my answer is, anybody is beatable, but Guerrero won't be the one to beat Floyd.
.....UNFORTUNATELY!

Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
I agree - I think Floyd IS on the wane and would LOVE to see him knocked out but even when hurt vs mosely he clung on as though he was a china chinned champ who had to learn this to get through each fight - it was actually so impressive.
Despite the fact that I think Cotto got a draw against mayweather I dont think Guerrero has the power or the skills to trouble floyd, but I do think he will come unstuck very soon if he picks the wrong fight

Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
Guerrero had hell in beating Berto who ain't PBF. Floyd will get beat one day if he don't bale out before he's past it, it difficult to see Robert doing it.
-
No Floyd is the ghostbuster, Guerrero has no chance.
-
Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
I'd be very surprised if Roberto was the one to beat Floyd, but everyone has their expiration date as a top level fighter, Floyd is certainly closer to that than he used to be. HOWEVER I think Floyd wins a decision.
-
Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
No way. I don't see anyone at 147 or below that can beat Floyd at this moment in time.

I obviously agree.
But, robert has the speed, the youth and the heart.
Floyd might suddenly grow old in the ring and just not pull the trigger.
He might try to fight and get caught.
This is a tough one for floyd but he will make the adjustments. I truly believe all the fights we have seen floyd fight he doesnt even have to give 100% he just does enough as his skill level is just soo above all these fighters.
Hopefully he retires 50-0.
-
Don't think that is going to happen. Hey, anything is possible, it could happen. If Floyd hangs around long enough it will happen.
-
Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
We can only but hope that Floyd stands and fights and that his legs are shot but I highly doubt it.
-
Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
I would never say a fighter has NO CHANCE...but Guerrero has a better chance of winning the lottery. He doesn't have the skill set nor the speed to match up with Floyd. I have a strong feeling that Floyd is going to punish him badly.

I gotta disagree about Robert having the speed to cause Floyd any problems. He does not posses exceptional speed...especially in his foot movement.

Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
I rewatched Guerreros fight with Berto. I think it showed what a warrior he is. He might have a chance of winning if it turns into a brawl but I'm sure Floyd will keep this a Floyd fight. If Floyd thought there was a chance he might lose he would not go near the fight although I wonder if his new contract with Showtime will have any effect on his usual cherry picking.

Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
50-50 fight. Guerrero has an excellent chance at beating Floyd

He needs to fight him like he did Berto. Crowd him. Smother him. Hold and hit him. He needs to make it dirty. I think Guerrero has a point when he says Mayweather is losing his legs. There's truth to that. Factor in the incarceration/inactivity and it's unrealistic to think Mayweather is gonna have an easy time with Guerrero
-
Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
*i would say "no", but truth is, May has had 6 fights in 6 years... he had alot of trouble with Cotto in his last fight and as a matter of fact, Cotto was teeing off on May towards the end... Does May think Guerrero is a threat, i don't think so.. and that might bode well for Guerrero... all this inactivity has to catch up eventually... if u ask me, is there's a time May might lose, it's now.
-
Only if he catches him early. Magic 8 ball says "outlook looks bleak"
-
Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
I don' think anythings out of the question. He doesn't have to have Floyd moving and boxing to make him use those legs and put his theory to test. Hes put the weight on with ease and his stability and punch have appeared to benefit. Its going to be a very physical match and he will be in Floyds chest until Floyd changes the tune.
-
Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
No. Not unless Floyd gets REALLY old over night.

Guerrero is not going to be allowed to fight Floyd the way he did Berto.

Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
The unusual thing about this thread is that every single person agreed with me lol.
Guerrero has one chance, become a big puncher before the fight, look for one punch to trouble Mayweather.
I don't see the pressure working on Floyd as he needs that to win, he's used to being pressured because he ain't gonna come forward.

Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
It's that one time of the year again where the marketing effort pulls off and we all think that perhaps Floyd's opponent actually has a chance to win so we should all therefore decide to tune in. It's also that time of that time of year where he fights an opponent who's had little or no experience at welterweight. After the suprise called Cotto and the Showtime deal don't expect Floyd's opponents to have even the slightest chance of winning.

Exactly. I'm amazed they didn't dig Joe "Break, don't punch don't punch" Cortez up for this fight.

Cotto was at 154
This is at 147.
Big difference.

He doesn't have a choice. It's the only chance he has. Make it dirty. If he gets DQ than so be it. A DQ loss definitely won't hurt him

Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
Can Guerrero beat Floyd? Sure. It’s professional boxing… anything can happen. Father Time could suddenly rise up and drop a brick on Floyd’s head, making him old overnight. Floyd could also get injured in mid-fight.
Will Guerrero beat Floyd? Highly unlikely. For a number of reasons. Number one… you think Mayweather has spent all these years carefully cultivating that “0”, only to give it up now? Against Robert fucking Guerrero? No disrespect to the young warrior, but Floyd has fought a "Who’s Who" of fighters over the years and has emerged victorious. Some say he’s ducked some opponents… others say he’s too inactive. Both may be right. But one thing for sure is that Floyd Mayweather is one smart, savvy boxer. He hasn’t come all this way undefeated only to fall to someone to whom he’s at least an 8/1 favorite.
Second… Guerrero is barely into his 3rd fight ever as a welterweight. Floyd has been campaigning there for quite some time, and has even fought at light middle. Size advantage: Floyd. Third… Floyd knows he’s not facing a big puncher. Guerrero has only 18 knockouts in his 31 wins, and his last TKO win was in his first fight as a lightweight, coming from even further down the size ladder than that. And it was 3 years ago, against Roberto Arrieta. So one less thing to worry about for Floyd.
Fourth… Floyd may be older, but he’s definitely not shop-worn. The only blood drawn from Floyd in recent years came in his fight against Cotto. Well…. that’s if you discount the headbutt given to him by dumb fuck Victor Ortiz.
Will Floyd retire undefeated? Maybe. We all know he loves the idea. He’s driven by it… and he always trains hard for his fights. But even Floyd, if he keeps fighting long enough… could conceivably lose. IMO, he’s going to try and push the envelope just a little bit, trying to guess when that exact “right time” is.

Not really. Floyd's fighting another guy who hasn't settled into welterweight. Same shit different smell. Two fights at 147 for Guerrero, twice as many as Ortiz had. Hatton had none and Marquez was forced up from lightweight to a 144 catchweight that Floyd ignored. Thats four of his last 6 fights. Mayweather tried to break the mould with Cotto but got a moderate shock which will see him back to his good ol' self fighting the same ol' bullshit fights till the end of his Showtime deal. The guy is more predictable than my next beer hence the "reunion" with his father to try and spice up the plot. Hands down corniest and lowest cunt in boxing, Floyd deliberately mouthed off at his dad in front of millions of viewers just so he could sell a few more tickets then and now. The saddest thing is he's also the most shameful waste of talent in the history of the sport. If only he had the same blind, ignorant and unbased confidence of his fans :(

Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
I think it could be interesting with Guererros pressure and punches in bunches with Mayweather not using his legs as much and standing his ground a little more in his last couple of fights.
On the flip side, Guerrero isn't that hard to hit, and Floyd is very accurate and IMO seems to hit very hard. Given this, I say that Mayweather pastes Guererro from the inside with uppercuts and big straight rights from the outside and stops him inside 9.

Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
I think one of the biggest upsets in boxing is due .. whether or not it will be this fight i dunno ...one is gonna happen soon though!

Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
I was thinking of subscribing to boxnation for this one but knew lttle about Guerrero - after reading your views I don't think its worth it.
All I know is I have to be watching live the day PBF gets levelled. And I am sure it will happen. One day...

You should subscribe they are showing Martinez v Murray and Khan this week. Every weekend is a quality fight at the moment.

Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
Haters gonna hate. Guerrero is going to get his ass whooped.
-
Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
Guerrero can't beat Floyd. Floyd doesn't take a fight unless he is absolutely sure he can win. Otherwise he bitches up and makes excuses.
-
Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
u mofos need to get off Gayweathers nutsack. the last few fights Guerrero looked like a beast, someone who could give any good boxer problems. he is a little dirty and won't play that kissing horseshit that Ortiz did. this MF is serious and he is gonna come to fight and give it 100% i think. lil floyd is in for a scrap. and i think it will be worth buying...
guerrero might not win, but it will be one brutal assualt by the man.
I just hope to see ole loudmouth money get banged up a bit, and hopefully... knocked out.
-
Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
Hey, I can not afford to drop the sixty on the fight. I was looking around at some sites that claim to show all the ppv fights for 3.33 a month. Also a few sights say they have it for free which I figure is VS. Does anyone know if any of these discounted sites are actually any good. I can always just wait and see it on Showtime, they usually show a ppv fight a week after it's completion.

Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
I'm thinking they will work overtime to kill all streams on this one. Might just have to hold the nose and take stiff shot and drop the coin to see this stacked card, clean and without the 'hunt' all night. For me Ponce De Leon vs Mares is equally worth it. Love v Rosado is decent.
-
Re: Can Guerrero beat Floyd?
Negative! Floyd takes Guerrero to school, just like anybody else put infront of PBF.

I will save your words and send them to you afterwards on the 6th may.
So much hate and venom in your soul. Cheer up fella. Supposed to be a fight fan.
