Where does he go from here?
Back to ring as soon as possible. Fighting once a year is doing him no favors. He looked rusty to start. Once his nose got broken he was fighting handicap.
He's done. He has zero heart.
Fight Magomed Abdusalamov then the winner of Thompson-Price II. He can still make noise but he's not a champion
Night classes.
I'm guessing he'll be built back up slowly by Goosen. He'll probably fight on Ward's next undercard...then a showcase/co-main event on FNF.
There's still some good crossroad fights left for Chris...
Banks-Mitchell II winner or loser
Odlanier Solis
Dereck Chisora
Ruslan Chagaev
Kevin Johnson
And if he's got a passport...there's some good fights to be made in Europe.
Sir, you are an idiot. What do you think heart is? Give me your exact definition of heart as it applies to boxing, if you can?
To me, heart has always meant fighting on when you're bloody, beaten, realizing you're chances of winning are 0 and taking a lot of punches but you keep fighting.
You can point to some holes in Arreola's boxing but lack of heart isn't one of them.
Arreola sucks. he is a glorified journeyman who will never be a champion.
I reckon he could KO Fury. He's just a mark for me. He ain't good enough to be a world champion but beats most domestic level fights
Arreola needs to fight often to stay in shape (and out of the fridge), he does his best work when he is active. He can make some good fights against anyone not a Klit brother which can be said for 99% of heavyweights today so there is no shame there. Watching him fight the top USA fighters like Wilder, Mitchell, and Banks would be fun or even Haye, Price and Tyson.
I think Arreola can be a top HW - potentially even a champ - in the post-Klitschko HW era, but it would take him really buckling down, taking his training seriously and GETTING IN SHAPE.
Obviously he does have some technical flaws he needs to work on, but I think he has a lot more skill and potential than people give him credit for.
Perhaps Arreola fighting to get down in weight did himself no favours... he was zapped of energy and lost some of his power. What if it's good for him to be a fatty fat- some guys are like that.
I think if he had not broken his nose he could have finished that fight strong.... that and the issue he looked too weak from the onset. You could see Arreola had no power to hit anyone with anything that night.
Arreola may serve himself some good with plastic surgery to remove some of that loose skin/flab- that makes him look more out of shape than he probably is.
Arreola went the distance with a broken nose with a live fighter with power...
:-\
Arreola's biggest problem is that he has never had a plan B he's the heavyweight Kelly Pavlik. I always thought maybe he could have given Wlad some competition due to his chin and his determination, but now it would just be sad...Wladimir would hammer the bejesus out of Arreola.
If Arreola wants to make a comeback a crossroads fight vs Abdusalamov would put the wheels in motion. Abdusalamov rightly or wrongly has a lot of attention focused on him and if Arreola was to halt Abdusalamov like I know anyone with a good punch can then he's right back where he was before losing to Stiverne, he's 1 more fight away from a title shot.
If Arreola can't make a change in the way he fights, I'm sure he has reached his final level.
I've always liked him but never had any real belief that he would become a champion.
Stranger things have happened, so I guess Arreola could change his natural inclination to slug it out, but I just can't see that happening.
We'll find out, eventually.
I'd go along with Arreola beating Fury, I'd also go along with him clubbing David Haye to defeat too. I'd consider either of them beating him a really solid win.
I like Arreola, he comes to fight. Given that he's a prize fighter that might not seem like a stand out quality but given some of the shit we've seen masquerading as 'fighters' he'll do for me.
Also we seem to more and more be jumping on this band wagon that says you're either Champ or you're nothing and you've no business in the sport. Its not that black and white and there's a large grey area that guys like Arreola can fill.
To say he has no heart is madness.
Even before the nose, I thought he was much slower than in his last full fight. He wasn't beating Stiverne to the punch and I could just feel him slipping away as if he wanted to fight a uphill battle. I don't follow him much but he seemed like a different fighter. The last fight I saw him in was also a full fight but he used that jab often.
Maybe a Big Mac and Fries?
get in him v haye ! :S would be a good win for haye, beating a famous american would do his standing good too(and and old vitali opponent) and it would also be a good chance for arreola to make a name for himself, he isnt getting younger and if he cant compete at the top he might as well just pack it all in, i would say let arreola have a warm up to get back to winning ways and get a haye fight made as soon as possible, loser reitres match, like in the wwf !
Why is everyone so quick to retire a fighter? Let Cris earn some money by having more fights, let him test out young heavyweights, let him be an acid test for the championship contenders. He can stick with boxing for a while.
I always wondered how a Cris Arreola vs Sam Peter bout would go....would be fun to watch for certain though. Hell that bout could still happen knowing the way boxing works ;D
well i suppose this is true... i think the biggest part of trying to retire is them getting punched in the head and once they start of the downards curve it only gets worse and they get hit more... and is it really worth it ? but of course if he can make some good money and stay healthy then why not i suppose!
I like sam peter, although i think he has retired yet, he was never world class but was a good contendor and a worthy 1/4 of a champion i tihnk, when he was in his version of good condition and on a good run he was a dangerous fellow !
Most boxers aren't rocket scientists (no offense to what they do but there's a reason they box instead of have desk jobs), Arreola will make a better living for himself in the ring rather than outside it. Now he's only in his 30's he has a few fights left in him where he can earn good win or lose. I think he could challenge a Tyson Fury, I think a rematch vs Stiverne is close if his nose doesn't break, I think Arreola is a good fighter with a contender set of skills...he's not a champion, we know that much at this point. But there's money to be made and he might get another title shot, but he has to turn things around for himself.
Now someone like Audley Harrison, yeah he needs to go because he's not even competing he's just falling down.
