Would Floyd Mayweather Jr. take a fight with Lucas Matthysse?
I am so intrigued now. Floyd would outbox him all day, but it seriously only takes one with this guy. He has dynamite in his fists and right now, I'd honestly love to see it. You think Floyd would take this one?

I think Matthysse is getting overrated, yes it was an impressive performance against Peterson. But then again Peterson is a steroid cheat and has been beaten convincingly before, Peterson isn't a world class fighter.
Matthysse i thought legitmately lost to a Judah who's past his prime, and even Alexander showed at times showed Matthysse can be outboxed although Alexander did indeed get a gift.
I like Matthysse he's an exciting fighter with power, basically what any boxing fans want. But lets put him in with fighters of his own class, rather than throwing him to the wolfs to take a one sided boxing lesson off Mayweather Jr.
There's plenty of fights for Matthysse.

Re: Would Floyd Mayweather Jr. take a fight with Lucas Matthysse?
Floyd is on a big fat contract so why risk it against a puncher better to take easier opponents that will not threaten him too much.
Re: Would Floyd Mayweather Jr. take a fight with Lucas Matthysse?
OF course he would cuz it's an easy fight. Floyd would toy with the guy..
Re: Would Floyd Mayweather Jr. take a fight with Lucas Matthysse?
Maybe not right now... as Matthysse still has to make himself more recognizable to the average fan. But 2 or 3 fights down the road, why not? Assuming Matthysse continues his reign of terror at 140 and/or moves up to 147, it seems like an attractive fight in the future. At least we won't have to worry about 25-pound differences inside the ring.

Good list. But would also like to add Thurman at 147 and Broner. It's ashame TR and GB can't make fights together. Cause timing wise, next year he could fight the winner of JMM vs Bradley if he defeat Garcia.
Re: Would Floyd Mayweather Jr. take a fight with Lucas Matthysse?
It's easy night's work for Floyd. Matthysse is 5'6. He's a true natural junior welterweight. We have no idea if his power will translate to 147. He's too small to bully Floyd Mayweather. This is the perfect fighter for Floyd. People think he's invincible because of his high KO percentage, but he has trouble against boxers. I bet Floyd will sign him up for his next fight.

Matthysse isn't just stopping people he's seriously fucking them up. I'd be shocked if his power didn't travel up in weight.
I agree Floyd would box his head off - but it sure would be fun seeing a genuine lights-out hitter putting Floyd under pressure.

Peterson's Testosterone levels were not above nominal for an athlete and it really is a medical condition, I'd hardly call that cheating or juicing. The reason it was red flagged was because it was artificial and not because it exceeded the limit.
Anyway that aside. I don't think Floyd would ever let Lucas land flush on him and I see Floyd winning easily.
Re: Would Floyd Mayweather Jr. take a fight with Lucas Matthysse?
Floyd would treat Mythese like a bum in the ring. Lucas would get that ass beat like Gatti..

Matthysse cant be that big a puncher if he couldnt put Judah away. Im not saying Juday is shite, hes not but he went 12 rounds with the person whos now supposedly the biggest puncher in all of boxing.

Agreed, good post. And if scientists actually bring back Sabertooth tigers in the next few years like they keep saying, those big pussies would have to step up to the plate as well. But everyone knows the Sabertooths would rather just remain extinct as long as Lucas Mattyhsse is out there.

Judah said he is the hardest puncher he has ever faced. Also, Matthysse has knocked down almost everyone he's faced: Alexander, Soto, Peterson, Dallas Jr., Olusegun, Corley, Judah.
Re: Would Floyd Mayweather Jr. take a fight with Lucas Matthysse?
Folks... it's ok to laud Matthysse's punching power. Really.
There seems to be a taboo on piling praise on a fighter's qualities, for fear of getting hit with the "b-word" (rhymes with bandwagon). Yeah, yeah, yeah.... Lucas Matthysse does NOT punch harder than Mike Tyson. Lucas Matthysse cannot demolish tall buildings with a single punch. Lucas Matthysse does not make Hulk (the green guy, not our Saddo friend) cower in fear.
But Lucas Matthysse does have 32 knockouts in 34 fights. Lucas Matthysse did knock out Peterson for the first time in his 34-fight career. And he did it in the 3rd round. Lucas Matthysse was already being recognized for his vaunted punching power... it's not like he crept up on everybody overnight.
Oh... and to those who now claim that Peterson was a bum anyway, and a knockout waiting to happen..... I extend my heartfelt congratulations, and can only say that it would've sounded much more credible if said before the fight.
So hey.... it might not be the "cool" thing to do. But for now, I'll just get me a comfy seat on the Lucas bandwagon while it's still running. And if for some reason one of the wheels should happen to come off..... I'll just do what all good boxing fans do. I'll step off to see if it can be fixed. If not, I'll catch a train.
;)

For the record, I wouldn't be too eager to spar him unless he wore 18 oz gloves and agreed to play nice ;D
