Ex-champ Rocky Lockridge delivers sweet KO in the street?
Daaaaamn, just stumbled on this one (sorry if it's old). Moral of the story: don't run up on an ex-boxing champion, even if he is 54 and burnt out on crack cocaine. Same right hand that turned Rogar Mayweather's lights out.

Thats another sad sight to see! I hate when the street takes them back at any age! So sorry to see that! Ray Corso

Re: Ex-champ Rocky Lockridge delivers sweet KO in the street?
I saw that a few days ago and figured the guy knew how to fight, by the way he stood, how he turned on the right hand. Plus, the guys in the background were calling him "Champ." No idea it was Lockridge.

Its a damn shame what happened to Lockridge. Part of me wonders if this was a set up if not for the guys head bouncing off the walk.

He was a great little fighter pity so many ex Champions, end up on the skids drink drugs

If only their managers had souls and were people of integrity. If only...

Re: Ex-champ Rocky Lockridge delivers sweet KO in the street?
In all fairness, I don't think that Lou Duva encouraged Lockridge to become a crack head.

Re: Ex-champ Rocky Lockridge delivers sweet KO in the street?
Though I grant you that some fighters just have inner demons that are too strong, some promoters though..truly are shit. Look at what happened with Briggs, took the beating of his life and only got fifty thousand for it.
-
Re: Ex-champ Rocky Lockridge delivers sweet KO in the street?
That's right. We can't always blame the promoters for how fighters turn out.
It's the fighter's fault for being dumb enough to get played.

Re: Ex-champ Rocky Lockridge delivers sweet KO in the street?
Lockridge was minding his own business and the young guy wanted to mess with him.
Good job Lockridge!

Yup, it's amazing that such morons exist really. I've seen an interview of Wlad Klitschko where he said he doesn't go out to night clubs or anything like that because someone always wants to pick a fight:D. Can you imagine if he obliged some idiot and cranked them? That's like a 50/50 chance of death, seriously.

Alcohol will make a man do crazy things lol
Personally I've never been drunk enough to fancy my chances against a 6'6'', 240lb pro fighter but that's just me!

I remember an interview with Tony lopez years ago in which he said that once he became world champion, people were always challenging him. He said he'd tell them "Go ahead and punch first; I guarantee you that you will miss. Then I'll punch back and I guarantee you that I won't miss."
I read after he retired that his bar brawls were legendary in Sacramento.

If you're that dumb, you really do deserve to have to eat your meals through a straw for a few months.
I think Wlad does the smart thing though... I can see a guy picking a fight with a boxer, then when it aint going his way pull out a knife or a gun. It's always lose-lose for a fighter

Most anyone who picked a fight with Wlad wouldn't know things didn't go their way until the next morning in the ER lol, though I see your point of course others would get involved etc.

In the early 70s, my Father was good friends with a guy named Buddy Boggs, who was ranked 8th in the world at welterweight around that time.
Anyway, Boggs told my Dad a story of a big guy at a bar who had been drinkin picking a fight with him. Boggs told him "I'm a pro fighter and ranked 8th in the world right now, I'm not gonna mess up my hands on your ugly face".
So the guy took 6 or 7 swings at Boggs, who slipped the punches easily, then the big guy was out of breath and told him "Okay you can leave now"
Boggs just smiled and said "Alright thanks".

Re: Ex-champ Rocky Lockridge delivers sweet KO in the street?
I read an interview with former contender and title challenger Kenny Lane and they asked him, while sitting in a bar, if he was ever challenged. He said yes, and that he told them he was a professional fighter and only fought for money. The interviewer asked, what if the guy put $20 on the bar. Lane responded "Like I said, I'm a professional fighter..."

Same punch he hit the drunk guy with 30 years later.
