The NFL season approaches
I'm not really a baseball or basketball kinda guy..... but the NFL is near and dear to my heart. And in another couple of months, we'll be into the preseason. Time for my favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, to put some distance between themselves and the Dallas Cowboys for the most Super Bowl wins ever by a team. The Steelers have 6 wins, whereas the Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers have 5 each. I don't mind the 49ers too much.... kinda like them to tell the truth. But I've never been able to stomach the Dallas Cowboys. "America's Team" indeed....
So although I know there's not a lot of NFL fans here..... I know there's a few. So in the words of the since booted Hank Williams Jr....... ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?!?!?

Re: The NFL season approaches
I am a pretty casual Seahawks fan, but I think they could be a huge disappointment this year. A ton of free-agent signings that could go wrong, Wilson could regress, and they won't be taking anyone by surprise this year.
-
Re: The NFL season approaches
The Seahawks have gotten close... but have been unable to put the whole package together. I don't know whether Russell Wilson is the QB of the future for the 'Hawks... but they're gonna need some help in some key areas in order to make a serious run.
-
Re: The NFL season approaches
I'm a huge college fan but only a mild NFL fan. What I have enjoyed over the last couple years is the unpredictability of the NFL. The Pats, Seahawks, 49ers, Denver, Atlanta should all be contenders but the after that who knows. The NFC East is really a mixed bag. The Skins are probably only a playoff team if RG3's knee holds up. The Eagles and Giants could be a disaster or find themselves in the NFC title game. The boys are perennial underperformers. Ought to be an exciting season.
-
Re: The NFL season approaches
Unpredictable is right. About the only things you can bank on in the NFL are that:
1. The Jets will suck as long as Sanchez is the QB.
2. Tim Tebow will continue to be a polarizing figure in the NFL.
3. Bill Belichick won't smile all season.
4. The Browns will suck.
5. Michael Vick will get a concussion at some point in the season.
6. The Ravens will play good, physical defense.
7. Eli will throw 4 TD's in one game..... 4 INT's the next.
8. Jerry Jones will get another facelift.
9. More asinine rule changes will make the game more sterile.
10. The Browns will suck.

Cheesehead here.
WAR THE PACK!!!

Re: The NFL season approaches
Green Bay is to be admired. So much success for such a little town.
Were it not for the Packers, Green Bay, Wisconsin would be just another anonymous "Littletown, USA".
-
Re: The NFL season approaches
Hah! You forgot to say that Christian Ponder's longest completion of the season will be under 35 yards. Give the ball to AP and let him run miracles again.
-
Re: The NFL season approaches
AP and Peyton Manning had me torn for both MVP and Comeback Player of the Year last year.
Suffice it to say they were both deserving.

I knew, deep down, that there was something off about you.
A Steelers fan? Oh heavens.
I have been a die-hard Cowboys fan since the late 1960s when I, wearing a cowboy hat and a gun belt, saw the Cowboys play the Redskins. This was during the time when Walt garrison played fullback for the Cowboys, did Skoal commercials and rode rodeo. So I figured that they were cowboys during the week and played a little football on the weekend.
My father was born and raised in Pittsburgh during the 1920s and 1930s, when the Steelers were so bad that going to their games cost less than going to high school games. And they sucked during the time when the Cowboys made it to one Super Bowl- vs the Colts and were obviously cheated- and won another. And I, a cocky 8 year old, talked a lot of trash.
Did the same with Little Red Lopez, and this one came back to bite me, too. Just like Lopez lost to Chacon, the Steelers somehow cheated their way to a very successful decade in the 1970s. We all wrote off the 80s, and the 90s were a draw...
I don't think the win vs Arizona should count and I bet you wouldn't let your daughter attend a party with your team's quarterback!
Best I got...we'll probably be 8-8 or 7-9 this year.

Re: The NFL season approaches
This is probably quite an old one, but a lifelong Browns fan asked that when he died, six of the Browns players would act as his bearers, so that they could let him down one last time...

Not an old one, the guy just past away, and his funeral is today, so it will be interesting to see if he gets his wish.

Typical....I read something on twitter and I can't even get to the end of 140 letters. I blame my education!

Re: The NFL season approaches
The NFL need to do something to get the player murder rate back down to acceptable levels again.

Look out for those Rams this year

That one I'll give you.... LOL. Big Ben probably makes the Top 10 on a lot of daughters' "undateable" lists.

Why NFL's New Running Back Rule Is Heading in the Wrong Direction | Bleacher Report
This new RB rule about ducking down and initiating contact means that plays like this...

are now ILLEGAL...instead of a touchdown that's not a 15 yard penalty and a fine.
Football is being slowly outlawed...don't believe me?

Malcolm Gladwell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Football will fall apart when people start comparing it to slavery. You've got all these rich white owners "forcing" these poor minorities out there to do battle for their pleasure....that narrative is bubbling up to the surface now.

@El Kabong what does the city that I live in have anything to do with what team/s I support?
Your fascination with me and the teams I follow is getting a little creepy.
Should I be worried? :-\
Did I mention to you I'm a Blackhawks fan now?
I'm also thinking of becoming a PSG & AS Monaco fan. ;)

Well because during your lifetime LA has had NFL teams, the Rams and Raiders so you can't use the out you did for saying why you like Real & the Scum "Well they were the only teams I could watch on TV". It wouldn't shock me at all if you hopped on the bandwagon of any of those teams.....just seems a bit I don't know it just seems like you'd be the kind of guy to hit the reset button on a video game you were losing. I understand nobody likes losing, it's not enjoyable, but you just LOVE jumping on some bandwagons.

Rams are most likely going back to LA.

Well if they start winning again Mick will have a home team to support

Re: The NFL season approaches
If we keep having injuries we're gonna get to the season kickoff without a fucken TEAAAAM!!!!!
Culliver now player number 5 to go down with an injury.
At least 3 have been from our starters. 1 is out for the season and 1 might return mid-way.
I'm starting to get frustrated. :-\

Go back and watch the games we had you belly up...
It's just too bad Akers had the worst season of his career.
Both games Rams were lucky and that's a fact.
It's a fact when people face the best team it brings out the best in them and the Rams played well. But it still wasn't enough. We lost the game more than the Rams actually beat us.
-
Re: The NFL season approaches
Broke out for a second and saw Saints camp sweating balls at what felt like 150 degrees! Dudes are looking sharp, Rob Ryan has things all switched up with whole new defense!! Kenny vaccaro is going to a beast!

Maybe in the second game, but the first game they just beat them up, that was the beginning of the end for Alex Smith in San Fran, if not for the delay of game penalty the rams would have won.

Re: The NFL season approaches
Damn! The season hasn't even started, and a handful of offensive stars are already out for the season. The Eagles lost not one, but TWO starting wide receivers (Maclin, Benn).... San Diego's Danario Alexander is out for the season. So is Dennis Pitta, the Ravens' starting tight end.
It's getting difficult to keep up with this shit. :o
