Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
what are your predictions for this fight...i think its one of the best fights booked this year, i got sergey by ko
-
Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
Imo, i dont think it's one of the greatest fights of the year because Nathan Cleverly isn't that good to begin with.
I dont know what Warren has in mind. Maybe he bought the judges off or something and already has the robbery in play but he made a bold move by putting cleverly in there against Kovalez..
Kovalez knocks his ass out..
-
I'm going to go against you guys and say Cleverley wins a UD.
Sergey looks good on what I've seen but I think work rate may spur him on. He will no doubt take a few big shots but I reckon he is up to it.
Maybe it's a bit heart leading head 😁
-
I wouldn't mind cleverly getting KTFO to be honest, sick of him thinking he deserves a shot at Froch and sick of him thinking he's better than Froch.
-
Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
You can't knock cleverly because he's did quite a bit in one of the hard punching divisions, without actually having a punch.
Kovalev has never fought an undefeated fighter.
Cleverly has beaten 4.
Cleverly has been a world champion nearly 3 years.
Kovalev has never fought for a title worth mentioning.
Kovalev can bang, but cleverly has been in with a few decent punches, none with a record like Kovalevs but is his record blown up? Has he fought pure talent in al l his fights?
I give Cleverly a UD.

Cleverly has not only NEVER beat a champion for any title he's won (Brit/Comm/Euro) he's never even faced a man that's challenged for a "world" title.
Now I fully understand I'm a boring pedantic cunt - but you don't deserve to be called a champion with a track record like that.

Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
Kovalev around 10th round body shots tko. Cleverly will get hurt and try to shuck & jive his way through but his legs will be divorcing each other. Kovalev will be behind and get popped with flick jabs but when it matters...he is going take his legs and punch holes in this kid.

Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
i know next to nothing about Kovalev but something is telling me some of these posts predicting he win by KO are just anti Cleverly posts
-
I rate campillo higher than cleverely, and thought campillo would give kovalev a decent fight well he went in there and just crushed him. Not sure what clev got to offer kovalev, kovalev has a sick punch, good workrate for someone who has a punch like that and from what I've seen a good chin, kovalev inside the distance like 8ish. Granted I've only seen kovalev 4 times but he's really impressed me.

Not here, I don't mind Clev. He's a cocky kid who believes in his ability with speed. I just think he's bitten off way more than he can chew and has never faced a power combination puncher like Kovalev...who believes in his ability just as much. I also named my dog Nigel ;D

:) ive just watched a fair bhit of him on youtube and i agree he looks good
he doesnt really seem to have faced anyone but clevs competition hasnt been any better really apart from perhaps bellew and morat?
-
Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
What gets me you can only win, which Cleverly has done but for some of you it's not enough
I expect Cleverly to outbox Kovalev, if he has to go toe to toe he will as what I've seen he has
a very good chin. Remember you knock Burns and Cleverly, they win what's wrong maybe
some of you can't pick a winner, or better still just carry on picking your nose.

Its def a good match bud. Both have quality assets the other must negate. He's not your sterotypical 'big puncher', has good movement but as cliche as it sounds he can be hit with jabs, even in the White fight he had a second where White was able to triple it up right before the roof fell in on him. Good style clash, fans win.

Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
Nathan could batter this guy from pillar to post if he actually chose to do it. The trouble with Clev is that he wants to please the crowd at home to much and fill the shoes of Calzaghe and that could be his downfall in this fight. He’s facing another supposedly unstoppable juggernaut whose average fight lasts around three rounds and he never had to make the fight. I wonder if anyone else in the division would have taken this risk. Nathan has a world class chin and above average skill and he’s going against a guy who from what I’ve seen is a bull in a china shop that could not move above the waist with a swivel implant. If Clev is swayed by the drunks and decides to stand in the pocket and trade well it may not end well. If he decides to pick his spots and box he could make it real easy on himself.

True you pedantic boring cunt! :P
But he did beat Bellew, who is now mandatory and will fight for a world title in his next fight.
So you need to count that!
Cleverly is not the most likeable fighter due to not being a big puncher and being a little big mouthed but he has some skills.

Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
I think Clev is a good fighter and this is a good match too. He will deserve respect if he wins, as Kovalev is coming with a lot of hype from USA TV and is clearly dangerous.
@Dia bando - there's not a person on earth, regardless of grounding or experience, that can correctly and consistently pick the winner of a fight. It's easy to tell people you're an expert when the fighters you support are winning. What happens when they lose? I'll look forward to your posts (;D)

Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
There was a punch that Bellew hit Cleverly with while Clev was stuck on the ropes that was a punch from hell, I don't think Tony could have put more power into it if he tired. Clev took it and did not even wobble. I get the feeling that Clev will cause Kovalev to have a panic attack when he realises that he can't knock him out.

Agreed Clev is young and fearless he will beat this guy in a war as he did with Bellow. Nathan does have problems with boxers so B hop would be a pain in the ass for him.

Campillo was in bad shape for that fight though. Not saying it wasn't a good win, but I don't think we saw the best Campillo that night.

Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
I like Kovalev in this fight. Therefore, if Cleverly ends up taking the belt back to Wales, I'll give him credit.

That's the first I heard of him being in bad shape, he looked to me like he usually does.

Yes, I believe he had visa issues into right before the flight and didn't fly in from Spain until a couple of days prior to the fight, and allegedly was jet lagged etc. I might be mistaken but he might also have had a flu. I now there was a red flag in betting circles on him before the fight.
-
rant I stand corrected, I just googled it and yeah apparently he flew in four days prior to the fight, campillo is real a tough luck guy, his "loss" to cloud is unjustifiable to me no way no how could that fight be scored to cloud imo. I'm sticking with campilo cause blastin out a jetlagged campillo on three rounds is still dam impressive

Thats a major leap in hypothetical and he'd be we'll advised to not think he can war with Kovalev, or a Bellew for a maj. Dec for that matter, sponge a punch and turn up roses and cruise a win. Just because Cleverly didn't fall over...but still got hit enough to prove it...doesn't mean he won't panic himself?!

I'm just picking my nose up to the 2and knuckle,! If I was a expert I would be a millionaire , Cleverly
is a good Champion he may not be the biggest puncher, mind you Calzaghe never got much respect
for being a outstanding 2 weight Champion.
I'm just giving a few pointers.!;D

Calzaghe is respected by the entire boxing world (apart from some dopey forum fans) for being a GENUINE champion.
If you're comparing Calzaghe's early career with Cleverly, then the difference is Calzaghe beat Eubank to become "champion," a fighter that is rated among the best ever supermiddles ;)

Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
Just saw some vids of Kovalev on youtube and it looks like weve got a good fight coming up when he meets Clev. Hes defo gonna bring it
The outcome depends on how Cleverley goes about the job. Hes got a good chin and i dont think ive ever seen him dropped but if he stands his ground with Kovalev I think hel be in trouble. Hes gotta do what Calzaghe did vs Kessler when he realised he couldn't match him for power so had to adjust and box. Clev will probably give it a go because thats his nature but his slightly better boxing skills should prevail if he chooses to use them
-
Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
They also showed Kovalev v White on Eurosport which was a good destruction job. However if Cleverly is to fight him then it will be easier fight for him than Bellow. That was a close fight.
-
It's weird how fast people are to buy into Kovalav hype, Campillo got dropped twice in the first round vs Cloud so people shouldn't act like he's a beast

Campillo boxed Cloud's ears off though over the course of the fight. Campillo also picks Cleverly to win the fight with Kovalev.
On paper, it's hard to deny that the win over Campillo was a good win, considering that Campillo has given Cloud, Shumenov and other ranked fighters loads of problems, and Kovalev walked through him. As I mentioned earlier, however, Campillo wasn't himself for that fight. A lot of people betting on the fight shifted money to Kovalev right before the fight, after word came out that Campillo wasn't all there. So, if you are suggesting that the win over Campillo might be overvalued, you may be correct. In my opinion, this is a great fight between slugger and boxer. It's a risky fight for both guys, but Cleverly has a fan base, so it's a riskier fight for him.
How nasty would a fight between Kovalev and Stevenson be? :shotgun5lu8:

Kov opens a slight fav at 4/6 with Clev 6/5

I think it's very close fight. If Clev wins I will be impressed. Kov looks a beast.

They won't boxing fans are experts at changing history, Kovalav will become a bum who fought on NBC Sports if he loses instead of this monster he is being portrayed as.

This is a great fight. Can't wait.

Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
I only just realised that generally the members on this forum hate and detest "feather fisted" none punchers. Iv seen it mentioned alot.
Cleverly is seen as a none puncher but he will beat Kovalev. It takes more than just power. Kovalev will be outworked and look very basic and over rated.
This will be a minor Calzaghe v Lacy where everyone got excited about the "new Tyson" facing the over rated, protected, none puncher Calzaghe.

Yeap, the people on this site hate none punchers.
Give or take a few posters.

Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
I really think this fight will be a FOTY candidate. Has WAR written all over it for me. Can't wait....
-
Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
I think hate and detest non punchers is a bit strong. Prefer bangers, yeah I'll go along with that.
Paulies popularity has increased as what punch power he ever had evaporated.
Kovalev looks like a hard cunt but I dont see anything too explosive about him. Campillo looked horrible in that fight and pretty much quit.
Im tipping Cleverly to control him.
-
Re: Kovalev vs Cleverly predictions august 17th
Blimey, I'm surprised Cleverly opened as underdog too. Both camps didn't have to take this fight which shows how confident they both are.
It's pretty clear that Warren ain't convinced Kovalev is the killer he's being made out to be. Either that or he's completely lost it.
